Chapter 538: The Automaton in the Space
Chapter 538: The Automaton in the Space
"Remember, don’t talk about the heir with anyone, not even the Friend Account or the Communication Pea. True secrets are safe only in your own heart, where they won’t be leaked."
Ari vividly mimicked Mad-Eye Moody’s speech, then hopped to the side, furrowing its short brows, and used Ferdinand’s tone to say:
"If that’s the case, you could have kept it from us. Why did you choose to tell us, the couple…? Is there something else on your mind?"
Ari then shifted back to Moody’s position, pausing for a moment before speaking in a gruff voice:
"Actually… I’ve tried telling others my suspicions, but they all thought I was mad. Dumbledore also…"
He paused, then slowly continued with a peculiar stubbornness:
"If I die one day, you must pass on what I told you to Veed. Tell him—stay vigilant! There are things I still don’t understand, but he should keep his eyes open and not trust anyone easily!"
Ari propped itself up on the table, staring sternly at the air in front of it. Despite its beady eyes, no matter how fierce it tried to look, it still remained endearing.
Then, the small magical doll relaxed its posture and expression, sitting beside the table and swinging its legs. "And then he left!"
"Thank you, Ari." Veed gently rubbed the small magical doll’s head, unable to suppress a smile. "Your imitation is excellent."
Ari’s little hand tugged at his index finger, asking, "Is the master in danger at school? Can Ari help?"
Veed looked into its eyes and smiled. "My request for you remains the same—protect my parents. That’s more important to me than anything else."
Ari nodded vigorously.
...
Back in the wardrobe space, Veed saw Mihal lounging in its nest, eyes closed in a relaxed state; the Cloak was sprawled out on the ground, looking like a devil ray about to dry in the sun.
Apart from these two, the wardrobe space looked like an ordinary wizard’s home:
Several rooms of various sizes served as alchemy labs, libraries, storage rooms, bedrooms, and potion rooms.
There were sizable open spaces in front and behind the house, with flowers planted and exercise equipment set up.
In the distance, a plot of land was cultivated with various herbs, and a small lake could be seen, with some creatures living idly by its shores.
A cloud drifted lazily in the sky, slowly raining down, like an automatic sprinkler.
When Harry and the others entered the wardrobe space, this was the scene they saw. Apart from the astonishing size, nothing seemed particularly unusual.
They didn’t know that the wardrobe space was Veed’s own creation, assuming it was a gift from Professor Mori to his student.
Veed stood in the center of the open space, ignoring the Cloak’s grumbling, and lightly clapped his hands.
The bell hanging by the door, upon seeing the signal, immediately began to ring.
"Jingle—jingle—"
The ground in front of Veed instantly collapsed, layers of earth disappearing from the inside out, forming a deep entrance, from which various noises emanated.
The Cloak immediately jumped up, cheering and rushing in, while the floor beneath Veed’s feet floated, carrying him downward.
After Veed’s modifications, the wardrobe space was actually divided into two levels. The upper level was ordinary, quiet, and neat, while the lower level was where Veed’s true efforts lay.
This basement resembled a large, chaotic base, filled with automatons.
The largest automaton was as tall as a two-story building, shaped like a giant jellyfish with long, slender tentacles hanging down. It functioned as a crane in the basement, easily lifting objects to high places, and when idle, it floated around the basement.
The smallest automata could even slip into a person's ear. They scurried around like ants inside various instruments, performing intricate tasks. Sometimes, if they got stuck, they would emit shrill squeaks.
There were also two crab-like automata, each about half the height of a person. Their job was to prepare materials for the creation of other automata. Some materials needed to be ground into fine powder, others sliced into thin sheets, some drawn into fine threads, and others burned with fire.
With their eight legs busily working and clearly divided tasks, the prepared materials had already filled several boxes, waiting for Veed to start crafting.
Additionally, there were some fist-sized small magical dolls, resembling a swarm of hornets. Their round bellies were filled with ink, and they buzzed between the bookshelves, some carrying books while others wrote and drew on parchment.
Despite their small size, these small magical dolls were highly intelligent. Their job was to organize Veed's countless books. The clock-shaped library that Nicolas Flamel had given him stood nearby.
The magical world had an endless number of books and notes, with new books and various magazines added each year. Even if Veed had a lifespan as long as Nicolas Flamel's, he wouldn't be able to read them all.
So these small magical dolls served a filtering role. They screened out incorrect, outdated, and repetitive books. Most books were only excerpted for their valuable content and compiled into collections.
Only the most precious, content-rich, and virtually error-free books were placed on a separate shelf, waiting to be taken and read by their owner.
When no outsiders were in the wardrobe space, these hornet automata would fly to the upper levels to clean, tend to various herbs, and sometimes act as Veed's alchemical assistants, performing their tasks with great skill.
"Hey, guys, did you miss me?" the cloak flew around, greeting everyone. "It's been a while... though not that long, but my experience this time is something you can't imagine..."
"Get lost!" A deep voice came from one of the jellyfish bodies. "Don't disturb my work."
"Oh, did you find a new magic book? What? No? Then what's so surprising?" A hornet automaton flew past the cloak, disdainfully.
Another hornet automaton approached the cloak and asked, "Have you finished reading Spell Inversion Algorithms? If you have, I recommend Medieval Magic Runes. You need to learn more while staying by the master's side."
If the cloak had eyes, they would be wide with shock.
It asked, dazed, "I'm just a cloak. I can fly, fight, and defend against spells. Why do I need to learn more?"
"I advise you not to waste your time", another hornet automaton flapped its wings, hovering beside the cloak, mocking the previous one. "It hasn't even memorized the Latin roots of common potion ingredients! Let alone..."
"Hey!"
The cloak didn't wait for it to finish and swatted a few hornet automata away, sulking back to Veed's side.
"Master, these bookworms don't understand the incredible things you've done!"
"Alright, go play."
Veed said casually, patting the cloak to calm it down, then looked at the materials piled in the boxes, considering what kind of automaton to create this time.
Since the first batch of automata were destroyed on that island, he rarely made humanoid automata anymore.
Objects that resembled his own form, whether they had warm blood flowing through them or not, were easy to imbue with more emotions.
But now... perhaps he still needed more automata that could blend in with crowds.
Veed pondered, lightly waving his wand. The materials in the air converged, gradually forming a humanoid shape.
