Chapter 537: Fallen Benevolence
Chapter 537: Fallen Benevolence
"Vivian, stay behind me!"
"When I engage them, you run east with all your might. No matter what happens, don't stop!"
The warrior, clad in rough leather armor, protected a young girl behind him.
The warrior appeared to be around 25 years old, and his dark eyes held a resilient determination forged by the harsh wilderness.
Although the young girl was still a child, she possessed a maturity beyond her years.
Her golden hair was somewhat dry, and her blue eyes held a liveliness that others her age lacked.
By their side, the remaining man and woman were severely injured.
Their blood had soaked large patches of their clothes, and they couldn't stand, relying on the nearby stone pillar for support.
The protected girl spoke up, "Boer, they're after me."
"You can take..."
Before the girl could finish her sentence, one of the men among the group of five men and one woman who had surrounded them burst into laughter, holding a bow and arrow, "My little miss, you're quite the smart one, aren't you?"
"Rest assured! As long as you come with us peacefully, we won't harm a hair on these guys' heads!"
As the man with the bow spoke, another person beside him scoffed, "It's laughable that you'd come all the way here just because of some rumors from refugees."
"Do you think you can survive in the wilderness with that kind of thinking?"
The only woman among the six spoke with a stern attitude, mocking them, "If it weren't for their kindness, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to strike."
"Life in the wilderness gets tougher by the day."
"Let's capture their daughter and make that Aroen guy pay a price."
Another person spoke disdainfully, "They talk about accommodating refugees and restoring order."
"But they don't take care of us properly, treating us like we're not even human!"
Hearing these taunts, the warrior protecting the girl clenched the longsword in his hand.
The Will Essence within him grew stronger, and a faint golden light seemed to envelop the blade of his sword.
"Shut up! Elder Aroen is working to restore order to the Moon Crying Ridge world, and that's why he came all this way. You flies and dogs have no right to speak ill of him!"
"... "
The battle was about to commence.
When Lindsey arrived at a stone forest in the west, this was the scene that unfolded before his eyes.
His exceptional perception allowed him to clearly hear their conversation from a distance.
He also made a judgment about the situation.
However, just before Lindsey drew his bow to stop the impending fight, the wilderness hunter who had been surrounded by the group suddenly paused and looked in Lindsey's direction.
"Someone's coming!"
"Is it the guy from the pigsty coming from the east?"
"..."
"Meeting someone and immediately calling them a pig isn't a good habit."
Lindsey smirked, and in an instant, the Iron Horn Longbow was drawn.
Simultaneously, six Black Feather Arrows connected end to end, and with a series of booming sounds, they flew towards the enemies like slender black crow feathers.
"Ah?"
"What arrows are these? So fast?"
"Damn, I've been hit! Help me pull it out!"
In an instant, the formation of the six people across from them was disrupted.
Two were directly hit by the arrows, two barely dodged, and the last two managed to block and deflect the arrows.
The speed of the arrows depended on the strength of the bow and the design of the arrows themselves.
Lindsey's strength wasn't particularly evident in his archery.
However, even so, his arrows were not something ordinary people could react to.
All six of the besiegers were Awakened.
The weakest among them, unable to dodge in time, had already been pierced by the black-feathered arrow, the shaft embedded in their flesh.
The arrow, difficult to remove, caused excruciating pain, rendering them immobile. The remaining four, their faces rigid with tension, watched as the young warrior hastily shielded the young girl and retreated.
Among the besiegers, the man who had sensed Lindsey's approach immediately raised his bow, his eyes flashing with malicious intent. He aimed directly at Lindsey's direction.
"Where...where are you?" he growled.
The next moment, his expression turned blank.
Lindsey, who had been shooting arrows at them just a moment ago, had vanished from his sight.
The hunter quickly activated his skill.
He saw a series of footprints approaching from the opposite direction, following a curved path—
"Huh?"
Before he could react further, Lindsey's figure appeared right in front of him.
Snap! Lindsey grabbed the hunter's bow, his fingers clenching around it.
The hunter instinctively threatened, "Let go of me—Ahhhh!!!"
A crisp sound accompanied the breaking of the hunter's hand bones and the bow, shattering together with the blood and flesh. The arrow, just nocked, flew off with chaotic force, embedding itself in a nearby stone pillar.
Lindsey gently pushed the hunter, who fell heavily to the ground, completely immobilized.
Just moments ago, all six of them had been unharmed.
Now, two were lying on the ground with arrows in their bodies, and one had his weapon and hand shattered, wailing in agony.
The remaining three witnessed this scene, their eyes filled with apprehension as they regarded Lindsey. But their fear was more pronounced, and they whispered to each other in panic:
"What level is this guy at?"
"How would I know? Aroen doesn't look like this anyway."
"Probably only someone from the Green Marsh could be this strong, huh?"
Lindsey didn't let them continue their conversation.
He took a step forward, and the three of them simultaneously took a step back.
As they retreated and he advanced, covering three meters, Lindsey shook his head slightly and chuckled softly, "No need to back away, you won't escape."
"I have some good news and bad news for you. Care to hear it?"
One of the three, his face turning dark, almost pleaded, "Stranger, we have no past grudges, no recent quarrels..."
Lindsey interrupted, "That's not what I've heard."
"Do you need a reason to kill on the Desolate Land?"
"Just like how you surrounded these four, they probably didn't provoke you either, but now they're suddenly caught in your trap, right?"
The remaining three hunters were speechless.
The gap in strength, their companion's wailing, the hopeless reality...
Everything before them was overwhelming, pressing down on their trembling nerves. Not to mention Lindsey, who stood before them with an unperturbed gaze.
In the face of imminent danger, the woman became hysterical, "Don't think you can eat us! We'll fight back..."
The woman's words were cut short.
At that instant, Lindsey's figure vanished from their sight.
"Where is he?"
"Run!"
As the three realized Lindsey's disappearance and the impending attack, they scattered in different directions.
But it was too late.
Amidst the fierce wind above, Lindsey's ghostly, icy voice echoed, "The good news is—I don't plan to kill you right now."
"But the bad news is—after finding out the truth, things might not turn out the way you expect."
