Chapter 537: Controlling Notte
Chapter 537: Controlling Notte
Could it be?
The Dark Wizard suddenly thought of a possibility, his heart sinking to the bottom. He was about to shout when a beam of white light struck him.
"Obliviate! (Obliviate)"
Ivan looked at the unconscious Dark Wizard and lowered his wand, feeling quite disappointed.
Over the past few days of experimentation, he discovered that completely altering a Wizard's memory was extremely difficult. Even when using Legilimency in conjunction with the Memory Charm, the results were not entirely satisfactory.
The implanted memories were, after all, false. No matter how meticulously he crafted them, the target would quickly notice the inconsistencies once they regained consciousness.
It seemed that only by advancing these two forms of Magic to a higher level could he achieve the desired effect.
Unfortunately, he had little time left for further experimentation. In three days, he would have to head to Nicolas Flamel's residence, and if everything went smoothly, he might stay there until the start of the school term.
Knock, knock, knock.
A series of knocks sounded at the door.
"Come in!" Ivan said without surprise.
Three male Wizards in golden and red Wizard Robes cautiously pushed the door open and walked in. Like Old Rosier and the others, they immediately felt an overwhelming pressure the moment they entered.
Especially when they saw the Dark Wizards lying on the ground like dead dogs, their fear only intensified.
"Just like before, take these people away", Ivan said, giving them a quick glance and waving his hand.
"Yes, Sir!" The Wizards quickly nodded, trembling as they dragged the unconscious Dark Wizards out.
Ivan keenly sensed the fear in their hearts and silently shook his head.
These newly arrived Wizards had indeed had too little contact with him. If given more time, they might realize that he was actually a very kind person!
Ivan sighed and decided to put aside the long-term task of changing their perceptions until he returned next year.
For now, he had one final task: controlling Notte!
Notte was the Head of the Family in one of the Pureblood Families. If he were to go missing for an extended period, it could attract an investigation.
So Notte couldn't die. Ivan needed him to temporarily stabilize the Ministry of Magic and help create the illusion that Knockturn Alley was still in chaos, thereby buying him more time.
Ivan had previously experimented with Legilimency and the Memory Charm on those Dark Wizards to see if he could successfully alter their memories for this very purpose.
Unfortunately, the experiment had failed. Altering someone's memory was not that easy.
Fortunately, there was a way to compensate. He could erase part of Notte's memory and then use the Imperius Curse to achieve the same effect.
The only complication was that he would need to send some people to monitor Notte to ensure he didn't break free from the control.
With this in mind, Ivan got up and walked towards the door.
The day passed quickly.
Using the Imperius Curse to control Notte was surprisingly easy. Considering his own proficiency with the Imperius Curse was not high, Ivan didn't do it himself but had Dawgert cast the spell.
He only used the Memory Charm to erase Notte's memory and implant some new ones as a safeguard. This way, even if the Imperius Curse were broken, Notte would remain disoriented and confused for a long time.
In addition to his daily Magic practice, Ivan had Fenrir form a new group of Aurors, consisting of seven Werewolf Wizards, to patrol the streets and combat illegal activities.
The Wizarding Market had additional guards arranged, and with the cooperation of Old Rosier and others, it was not difficult to deceive the Ministry of Magic.
The main goal was to make the officials believe that the previous conflicts were merely personal disputes and gang wars, posing no real threat to the Ministry's rule.
By evening, Ivan once again gathered all the Wizards to address some important matters before his departure.
The most crucial task was to find something for these Wizards to do during his absence!
After conquering the Wizarding Market, they no longer had enemies in Knockturn Alley.
This meant that the Wizards no longer needed to risk their lives in battle to earn their high salaries.
Ivan absolutely could not accept this!
He would not allow them to idle away and earn their pay for nothing!
Therefore, Ivan planned to keep them active, subjecting them to intense training over the next year to transform them from a ragtag group into true fighters!
Especially after a rough assessment of their Magic levels, Ivan's resolve was even more firm, as their Magic skills were abysmal.
Including the recent captives, out of the fifty Wizards, only half could successfully cast Protego, and only nine knew Avada Kedavra!
Standing on the stage, Ivan looked disappointedly at the Wizards below. Under their gazes, he cast a Sonorus on himself and spoke slowly.
"I must say, you all have truly disappointed me!"
"Some of you, as adult Wizards, can't even cast Protego proficiently. Keep in mind, this is a basic spell that even some first-year students can master!"
Hearing Ivan's words, the Wizards in the crowd either hung their heads in shame or fear, while a few wanted to protest, arguing that Protego was not a basic spell but rather a challenging advanced Magic.
Even Aurors in the Ministry of Magic were not all proficient in it, so it was impossible for a first-year young witch or wizard to learn it.
However, they swallowed their protests before they could speak, as they had a living example right in front of them. No one doubted that Ivan could have mastered Protego when he first entered Hogwarts.
Seeing no one contradicted him, Ivan immediately ordered the Wizards to pair up for combat practice!
Unlike the Duel Club at Hogwarts, Ivan's rules allowed the use of all Magic except the Killing Curse. The goal was simple: to defeat the opponent in front of them!
With Dawgert present, as long as they didn't use the Killing Curse or deliberately try to kill, any injuries could be healed!
As a reward, the Wizard who won the most duels each month would join the Auror Squad and receive a salary of sixty Galleons per month!
After Ivan announced this with great fanfare, the Wizards, who had been looking glum, became excited. Sixty Galleons was considered a high salary in the British Wizarding World.
For these impoverished Wizards living in Knockturn Alley, joining the Auror Squad would significantly improve their lives. Previously, they had taken on these dangerous jobs just to put food on the table, but now they felt they might have more to strive for.
