Chapter 536: Gorlton vs. Kapu-Riki! Kapu-Riki's Favorability +1!
Chapter 536: Gorlton vs. Kapu-Riki! Kapu-Riki's Favorability +1!
Had Kapu-Riki, the guardian deity of the forest, also come to visit this Pokemon cafe?
The Oranguru behind the bar was already accustomed to such occurrences. It continued rummaging through the pile of miscellaneous items under the counter, paying no mind to the new visitor.
Zhi Hui Xing, the owner of the cafe, observed Kapu-Riki, the leader of the island's guardian deities, with great familiarity. He recalled that in the anime, Kapu-Riki would indeed frequent this cafe.
At that moment, Zhi Hui Xing seemed to have finally found what he was looking for. He stopped rummaging and pulled out an old, slightly worn white Z-Power Ring.
"Yare yare," the Oranguru muttered.
Zhi Hui Xing offered the white Z-Ring to Naoki.
Naoki was initially taken aback by the gesture, but then asked in surprise, "This is...?"
"Yare yare," Zhi Hui Xing said, which meant, "This is a token of our gratitude." He then turned his attention to Gorlton and the Ride Pawniard, "Yare yare" ("It seems you are a trainer as well. This Z-Ring will be of some help to you. Please accept it.").
"Really?" Naoki couldn't help but ask, as he recognized the item. It was one of the essential components for unleashing a Z-Move!
Zhi Hui Xing nodded slightly. "Yare yare" ("Your help is far more valuable than this ring.").
Hearing this, Naoki didn't refuse further and solemnly accepted the Z-Ring from Zhi Hui Xing, promptly putting it on his wrist. Although it was old, it seemed to be in perfect working condition.
Now, he just needed to find the corresponding Z-Crystal!
Arceus' tablet was still incomplete, and the five slabs that made up the Life Orb were still missing and scattered across the world. If Naoki remembered correctly, the missing slabs represented the Electric, Grass, Water, Ground, and Dragon types.
Among them, Dragon-type attacks were ineffective against Arceus, who possessed the Fairy-type Original Slab. This had been proven by the Legendary Pokemon Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina in the movies.
Ground-type moves would also be negated by the Flying-type slab.
This meant that currently, only Electric, Grass, and Water-type moves could pose a threat to Arceus.
On the ranch, the corresponding Pokemon were:
- Grass type: Tapu Bulu
- Electric type: Zapdos
- Water type: Kyogre
Zapdos was out of the question for now, as its strength paled in comparison to the other two.
Therefore, Naoki needed to find the Z-Crystals corresponding to these types.
However, there was one more thing on his mind.
As far as Naoki knew, Z-Moves were powerful attacks that were enhanced by the trainer's "Z-Power," a manifestation of natural energy. These moves were far more potent than a Pokemon's regular techniques.
However, using these moves placed a tremendous strain on both the trainer and the Pokemon, making it impossible to use them consecutively in a short period.
In other words, they would only get one chance to unleash their ultimate move.
He had the options of Tapu Bulu, the embodiment of the land, and Kyogre, in its Primal Reversion state.
But which one should he choose to deliver the finishing blow?
After some contemplation, Naoki decided to leave the decision for later. Using a Z-Move wasn't solely his decision; it also depended on the Pokemon itself.
Naoki returned to the table with Gorlton.
Meanwhile, Zhi Hui Xing began preparing a pineapple juice for Kapu-Riki.
However, Kapu-Riki seemed distracted and kept glancing at Naoki, Gorlton, and the Ride Pawniard.
Kapu-Riki was astonished because it sensed an incredibly dense concentration of natural energy emanating from that human and his Ride Pawniard!
Were they trainers from the Alola region? Kapu-Riki didn't think so because it had never encountered such trainers in Alola, at least not on Melemele Island.
Just then, a cup of sweet and fragrant pineapple juice was placed before Kapu-Riki.
"Yare yare," Zhi Hui Xing said.
But before he could finish his sentence, Kapu-Riki's body turned into a yellow blur, vanishing from its seat.
In the blink of an eye, it appeared in front of Naoki and his Pokemon, staring intently at them.
"Yare?" Zhi Hui Xing looked on in confusion.
Naoki was also taken aback by Kapu-Riki's sudden movement and unconsciously tilted his head back.
"Kapu?" Kapu-Riki asked in a deep voice.
Naoki paused for a moment, then tentatively said, "Hello?"
Kapu-Riki took two steps back and continued to observe them from a distance.
Naoki was perplexed by Kapu-Riki's behavior.
Soon, a possible explanation came to mind.
Could it be that Kapu-Riki wanted to give him a Z-Crystal, just as it had given Ash a Z-Ring embedded with an Electric Z-Crystal in the anime?
"Crack..."
Kapu-Riki narrowed its eyes, then, as if it had made a decision, it turned and walked towards the door without even taking a sip of the pineapple juice Zhi Hui Xing had prepared for it.
It took two steps, then stopped and called out to the human and his Pokemon, who hadn't followed, "Kap!"
Naoki finally understood what Kapu-Riki meant.
"Are you asking me to follow you?" Naoki asked in disbelief.
"Kap!" Kapu-Riki nodded.
"What's going on?" Naoki asked, looking at the native Alolan legendary Pokemon with a puzzled expression.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he stood up, ready to go and check on the situation.
Seeing that the human was following, Kapu-Riki turned and continued on its way.
Naoki recalled his Ride Gogoat and then followed with Gorlton by his side.
The group walked straight out of the Forest Pokemon Cafe, with Kapu-Riki leading the way. Finally, it stopped in a relatively open clearing.
Suddenly, Kapu-Riki's aura changed, and it used its keen eyes to gaze at them.
A flash of electricity coursed through Kapu-Riki's body, and the shells on its hands opened, releasing a surge of powerful electricity.
Kapu-Riki struck a challenging pose, seemingly inviting the human before it to a battle! Naoki quickly understood its intention.
It wanted to have a Pokemon battle with them?
Kapu-Riki was just as he remembered it from the anime!
Although Kapu-Riki was known as a guardian deity, it didn't mean it would always help humans.
Kapu-Riki's temperament was unpredictable, and it sometimes played pranks or punished humans.
Of course, it would also very rarely give a mysterious gift to a human it favored, just like in the anime when it gave Ash a Z-Ring embedded with an Electric Z-Crystal.
Kapu-Riki was also incredibly curious and interested in humans and other Pokemon. It would often appear before people and engage in play or battles.
With this in mind, Naoki decided to spar with Kapu-Riki! According to the storyline, if he could defeat Kapu-Riki, he would gain its recognition and even had a chance to receive a Z-Crystal from it!
As an island guardian deity, Kapu-Riki had quite the collection of Z-Crystals!
There was the Electric Z-Crystal it gave to Ash and Pikachu, and the Grass Z-Crystal it gave to Mao...
"Gorlton!" Naoki suddenly reached out towards Kapu-Riki.
At his command, Gorlton stepped forward, standing in front of Naoki, and let out an ancient roar at Kapu-Riki.
Kapu-Riki stared at Gorlton, and in the next second, its body erupted with electricity, a yellow electrical current spreading rapidly across the grass and transforming the area into an electric field.
"It activated its Electric Maker ability!" Naoki commanded, "Gorlton, don't use Dragon-type moves!"
"Agas!"
Just as they finished speaking, Kapu-Riki transformed into a current-covered shadow and disappeared from its original spot, reappearing behind Gorlton in the blink of an eye.
"So fast!" Naoki exclaimed in surprise. It was just as he remembered from the anime—a guardian deity Pokemon that could appear and disappear without a trace!
Kapu-Riki raised its hand, and a strong electric current surged from its palm.
However, the next second, an unexpected turn of events occurred. The Pokemon in front of it suddenly turned around and, with even greater speed, grabbed its wrist, stopping the release of electricity.
Seeing this, Kapu-Riki's pupils narrowed.
This Pokemon was even faster than it!
As expected!
Naoki smirked, thinking that as long as Kapu-Riki didn't use Fairy-type moves, everything would be fine.
"Gorlton, close-quarters combat!" the moment Gorlton moved, Naoki gave the command.
Gorlton grabbed Kapu-Riki's dragon claw and pulled with force.
In the next second, Kapu-Riki, who was floating in mid-air, was thrown to the ground by Gorlton with a powerful shoulder slam, creating a deep pit in the earth.
Dust rose from the impact.
"Kap! Kap! Kap!"
Kapu-Riki coughed urgently, as if it hadn't expected the situation to turn out this way.
However, it then heard the human's voice again.
"Gorlton, full-force collision!"
A black shadow completely blocked the white light above Kapu-Riki's head. It looked up and saw a terrifying shadow with an ancient aura rushing towards it.
Kapu-Riki's eyes widened as it quickly released an electric current and dodged with incredible speed.
The moment Kapu-Riki got up, a loud "boom" rang out, as if the very earth trembled beneath it.
The commotion startled a large group of bird Pokemon nesting in the forest, sending them flapping their wings in a panic as they fled into the distance.
Kapu-Riki turned and saw a deep pit where it had just been lying down.
Kapu-Riki: !!!
That Pokemon is so powerful!
Sensing a formidable opponent, Kapu-Riki shed its playful attitude, and a strong current of electricity burst forth from its body.
In the blink of an eye, dazzling arcs of electricity enveloped the entire clearing.
Discharge!
Gorlton was momentarily blinded by the bright flashes and shielded his eyes with his right hand, searching for Naoki in front of him.
However, to his surprise, he couldn't spot Gorlton anywhere in the clearing!
What was going on?!
Zhi Hui Xing, who was also in the clearing, noticed this strange turn of events. He continued to release electricity while quickly scanning the area with his eyes, including the pit that had been created.
But to his astonishment, the Pokemon was nowhere to be seen!
Where did it go? Kapu-Riki immediately became alert.
Just then, there was a disturbance in the ground below.
Kapu-Riki instinctively looked down.
In the next second, Gorlton emerged from underground and launched a surprise attack on Kapu-Riki.
The sudden assault interrupted Kapu-Riki's electric display, and the tremendous force sent its body flying through the air before crashing to the ground, unable to move.
Battle Over!
Naoki stood there, stunned by what had just transpired.
The move that Gorlton had just used was... a Ground-type Dig?!
What was going on?! When did Gorlton learn that move, and how come he didn't know about it?
Seeing that Kapu-Riki had lost its ability to fight, Naoki walked forward and looked at Gorlton, "Dig?"
Gorlton immediately wore an expression of guilt.
"Agas!"
"You already knew that move?" Naoki narrowed his eyes.
Gorlton quickly shook his head, "Agas!"
However, the guilty look on its face betrayed its words.
Naoki: "Then why didn't you tell me when I was listing the moves you know?"
"Agas..." Fine, Gorlton conceded.
Dig was a move it had learned later on.
When it first arrived in that era, it wasn't familiar with its surroundings, and it had been chased and injured by ancient Pokemon.
To escape and find a safe place to rest, it had been forced to master the move Dig.
Every night, it would burrow underground into caves to sleep, and over time, it became more familiar with that world...
As for why it didn't tell Naoki, Gorlton felt that its initial scurrying for safety was embarrassing, and using this move made it feel ashamed.
Of course, it didn't voice these reasons and instead widened its eyes, feigning innocence, "Agas."
It had simply forgotten.
Naoki: "..."
The defeated Kapu-Riki hung its head in shame as it floated in the air.
Naoki didn't press the issue further and turned his attention back to Kapu-Riki.
The two locked eyes in the air.
Then, Naoki reached into his bag and took out a bottle of Life Moomoo Milk, which he offered to Kapu-Riki.
"My apologies, but please drink this, and your injuries will be healed."
Kapu-Riki stared at the bottle of fresh milk.
Instead of blaming the human for the harsh treatment, it curiously reached out and took the bottle.
Kapu-Riki opened the lid, took a whiff, and smelled a rich, creamy aroma with a hint of fresh grass. It wasn't unpleasant but rather unique.
Then, Kapu-Riki tilted its head back and drank the entire bottle of milk.
Something incredible happened.
As it finished the milk, its wounds completely healed.
Kapu-Riki's eyes widened in amazement.
It looked at the human before it in disbelief.
Naoki smiled at it, "There, now you're all better!"
Kapu-Riki felt a newfound sense of warmth toward this human.
It blinked and looked at the Z-Ring on his wrist, noticing that it was empty and seemed to be missing something.
Kapu-Riki then glanced at the Pokemon that had just defeated it.
Next, it reached out and produced a brown, rhomboid crystal, offering it to Naoki.
Naoki looked down and immediately recognized the crystal's shape and color as the unique product of the Alola region—a Z-Crystal.
From the color, it seemed to be a Fighting Z-Crystal.
