Chapter 536: Bagman and Krum
Chapter 536: Bagman and Krum
In addition to the latest article in the Daily Prophet, Sirius also brought a thick stack of letters... These were the letters that Dumbledore had asked him to deliver.
In a way, Rita Skeeter's reporting wasn't wrong, as many of the graduates did believe that Dumbledore couldn't expel Hagrid and had written letters in protest.
Sirius had brought a portion of these letters, and there were even more at Dumbledore's, but he hadn't had time to read them all yet.
The article and the letters finally restored Hagrid's confidence.
"Thank you... Thank you all."
He patted Sirius's shoulder gratefully, "I think I should hurry back. The first class in the afternoon is Care of Magical Creatures for fourth years, and I haven't prepared anything yet."
"Won't you stay for lunch?" Kyle asked.
"No, I'm running late..."
Hagrid quickly left the Entrance Hall with a brisk and energetic stride.
"Hagrid should really be aware of his own strength," Sirius muttered, rubbing his shoulder. "That last pat almost broke my arm. I could hear the sound of my bones cracking."
"How are you feeling...?" Kyle looked at him with a hint of amusement. "Do you need to go to the Hospital Wing?"
"No need for that. I'm not that fragile," Sirius waved his hand dismissively. "By the way, how's your second project coming along?"
"Professor Dumbledore has been busy these days, and I haven't been able to see him. I assume he's preparing the competition grounds."
"Yeah... It's going okay," Kyle shrugged.
"That's good." Sirius patted Kyle's shoulder as well. "I believe you can beat them, especially Durmstrang. I really want to see Karkaroff's expression then."
With that, Sirius also left the Entrance Hall.
Kyle and Cona walked into the Great Hall together.
"That Rita Skeeter actually spoke up for Hagrid," Cona said as she sat down. "You were right about her."
"Of course," Kyle said, scooping stew into a bowl with a ladle. "I told you, Rita Skeeter is smart. She must have guessed what we wanted her to do."
"So, will you send the photos to the Ministry of Magic?" Cona asked.
"Why would you think that?" Kyle looked at her in surprise.
"You didn't promise her, did you?" Cona blinked. "I remember clearly that you only said you wouldn't publish the photos if you were in a good mood, not that you would speak up for Hagrid."
"Well... Although what you said makes sense, after careful consideration, I still think it's better to keep the photos for now. After all, I'm a Champion representing Hogwarts, and I can't act against my conscience, right?"
Cona raised an eyebrow.
If it were three or four years ago, Cona might have believed Kyle's words, but things were different now... She didn't believe a word of it.
"What are you up to again?"
"Nothing, I swear," Kyle said, then quickly added, "At least not for now."
"So, you might in the future?" Cona asked, and for some reason, she found herself feeling sympathy for Rita Skeeter.
Who was the last person Kyle had his eye on... Oh, right, that rat named Scabbers.
If it weren't for clearing Sirius's name, he might never have been able to return to his human form.
"Speaking of that, you've reminded me," Kyle patted his forehead and took out a piece of parchment from his pocket, turning it into an envelope.
Kyle wrote Rita Skeeter's name on an envelope and slipped ten Galleons inside. He then whistled, summoning Raton from outside.
"Can you deliver this to the newspaper for me?" Kyle asked.
Raton nodded and flew out through a small window under the ceiling, clutching the envelope in his talons.
Cona, seeing Kyle's actions, asked in confusion, "Why are you giving Rita Skeeter ten Galleons?"
"Of course, it's for the payment," Kyle explained. "The photos are one aspect, but to establish a better working relationship, a little extra is necessary.
Only then will she put more effort into her writing. It's just ten Galleons, not a big deal."
"Are you planning to ask her to write for the Daily Prophet again?" Cona inquired.
"Of course," Kyle replied, taking a bite of his Yorkie Cake. "Besides having a large audience for her articles, what other use does she have?"
Cona was speechless. Just a moment ago, Kyle had said he didn't have any other ideas, but now he had changed his mind.
"There's no conflict," Kyle said, noticing her thoughts. "It's always good to be prepared. Who knows when we might need it?"
……
In mid-January, after the winter break, Kyle decided to visit Devins and Bones instead of going to Zonko's with Fred and George. He was curious to see if the shop had acquired any new magical items.
Unfortunately, it seemed the shop owner hadn't ventured out recently, and after browsing for a while, Kyle only purchased a few beans that exploded upon impact.
Although the beans' power was somewhat weak, they could still be useful for scaring people.
Kyle then joined the others, and Cedric suggested they go to The Three Broomsticks for a drink.
The pub was as crowded as ever. Hagrid was sitting at the bar, drinking with Sirius Black. Several empty bottles were lined up in front of him, indicating he had been there for a while.
Sirius, sitting next to Hagrid, appeared to be quite drunk, swaying unsteadily and looking like he might pass out at any moment.
"Oh, what's he doing here..." Fred pointed to the mirror behind the bar, "There's no Triwizard Tournament going on now, so there shouldn't be any need for a referee."
Kyle looked up and saw Ludo Bagman's reflection in the mirror, whispering to someone. Across from him sat several goblins with crossed arms, looking rather fierce.
"What do you think they're talking about?" George asked.
"I don't know, but he doesn't seem to be in a good situation," Fred replied. "That goblin looks pretty angry."
"You know, we should ask for our dad's one Galleon back," George said, suddenly indignant. "That liar... Good thing we didn't bet. He didn't even pay our dad's one Galleon, so he definitely won't pay our bet..."
Just as they were talking, the pub door opened again, and Harry, Hermione, and Ron walked in.
Not long after, Durmstrang's Viktor Krum also arrived.
At that moment, Bagman suddenly left the goblins and hurried over to Krum.
"Oh, Viktor, I'm so glad to see you here. Can I have a word with you in private... Don't worry, it won't take too long."
Before Krum could respond, Bagman pulled him to the other side of the bar.
The goblins continued to watch them warily, as if afraid he might run away.
