Chapter 534: The Avengers Disband (Second Update)
Chapter 534: The Avengers Disband (Second Update)
"Immortality!!!"
Upon hearing Jerry's words, everyone sucked in a sharp breath.
That's immortality! How could something so unbelievable be spoken so casually by you?
They knew Jerry was incredible, and every time he appeared, he always had some new magic or skill that left them amazed. But immortality was just too fantastical.
In myths, only gods could achieve immortality.
Even in the legendary Asgard, the lifespans of Odin and Thor were only five thousand years at most.
However, reflecting on Jerry's past and his various performances, it seemed somewhat plausible that he could be immortal.
"Alright, Jerry, you've convinced me. Perhaps we really shouldn't sign that damned agreement!"
In the end, Tony and the rest of the opposition were successfully swayed by Jerry's persuasive words.
It wasn't just the words, but mainly because of Jerry's strength and his significant standing in everyone's hearts. Since he was against signing the agreement, it was clear that it wouldn't happen.
Though no one said it outright, everyone had a good idea of the situation.
If it were anyone else, even with the same words, they might not have convinced everyone so quickly.
It's like when a beggar says something, everyone thinks it's nonsense, but when the world's richest person says it, everyone considers it a profound truth.
"Now, the most important issue is, if we all decide not to sign the agreement, the United Nations will certainly take action against us. What do we do then?"
At this point, Black Widow voiced the concern shared by most of the group.
As the highest-ranking officials of their respective countries, they often had the delusion that they could control everything.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have drafted that agreement.
They probably believed that by using the Avengers' families or their supposedly powerful armies, they could control the Avengers.
Or perhaps they held onto the naive hope that they could manipulate the Avengers in some way.
Of course, these tactics would indeed have an impact on the Avengers.
The Avengers could kill aliens and criminals, but they couldn't kill innocent police officers and soldiers who were following orders from politicians.
Moreover, not everyone was motivated by selfish interests. There were people like Tony, who genuinely believed that the Avengers would be better off under supervision.
"This is simple, leave it to me. Not by killing them, don't look at me like that, just a show!"
Jerry instructed Tony:
"Call a press conference and say that the United Nations demands the Avengers be under their supervision and control, and must sign the Superhero Regulation Agreement, or we won't be allowed to do anything.
The Avengers don't want to be pawns in the hands of corrupt politicians, and we don't want to sign the agreement. Therefore, we've decided to disband and return to normal lives.
Then, leave the rest to me!"
Actually, solving this problem peacefully is quite simple: make the entire world understand the importance of the Avengers, and recognize that they are indispensable.
When that happens, the United Nations will not only cancel the agreement but also apologize and request that the Avengers reassemble.
A week later.
"Jerry, Aisha, I’m taking Belle to the hospital for a check-up. Do you need anything? We can stop by the supermarket on the way back."
Has, supporting his very pregnant Teacher Berry, stood at the doorway of the hall and asked.
Teacher Berry’s due date was less than a month away, and Has would take her to the hospital for routine check-ups whenever he had the chance.
"No, just be careful on the drive."
Jerry paused the video on his computer and smiled, giving them a quick reminder.
Aisha, on the other hand, was lying on the sofa, munching on chips, looking utterly bored.
"Click!"
As soon as the front door closed, Aisha sprang up from the sofa, took large strides over to Jerry’s, and asked with a curious, gossipy look:
"Jerry, Jerry, has that sister I told you about, Hermione, called you yet? How’s it going? When are you planning to go out on a date?"
Jerry, who was about to resume his video, paused:
"Just started talking, it’s going well. How did you two meet?"
"Oh, well, I was doing some volunteer work with Annie and the others, and that’s where I met her. She’s a very kind and beautiful sister. I think you two would be a great match, and she doesn’t have a boyfriend yet, so I gave her your number. How’s that for a good sister, always thinking of you?"
Aisha had a look on her face that said, "Praise me, praise me."
Jerry’s eyebrows twitched, and he pinched Aisha’s chubby little face, smiling:
"Thanks a lot!"
"You’re welcome, you’re welcome. I’m telling you, when it comes to dating, you have to act fast. If the phone calls are going well, you should go out on a date, go shopping, and then bring her home once you’ve gotten serious!"
Aisha pushed Jerry’s hand away, excitedly giving him advice. She seemed more eager than Jerry himself.
But Jerry playfully flicked her forehead:
"Adult matters, kids should stay out of it. By the way, why have you been so well-behaved at home lately?"
"Hey, I’m not a kid anymore. The volunteer activities just ended, and I don’t know when they’ll start again."
Aisha sat up, puffing out her chest to show she was no longer a child.
In reality, the Superhero Regulation Agreement had been a major topic of discussion worldwide over the past few weeks. Turn on the TV, and you’d see reports about it everywhere.
Six days ago, Tony, following Jerry’s plan, held a press conference and explicitly refused to sign the agreement.
Since then, the Avengers have been considered disbanded in public, and all members have returned to their ordinary lives, forbidden from using their abilities to do anything against the rules.
Most people on Earth, influenced by the deliberate public opinion steering by their governments, agreed with this.
Only a few clear-headed individuals opposed it, protesting the United Nations’ unfair treatment of the Avengers.
However, due to the strong measures taken by governments, these voices of opposition were quickly suppressed.
In any era, the majority of people are easily swayed by public opinion. Even though the Avengers had saved the world multiple times and were considered superheroes, most people wouldn’t stand up for them unless it directly affected their own interests.
Because they are ordinary people, not superheroes.
