Chapter 530: Clash of the Dragons!
Chapter 530: Clash of the Dragons!
Xiaochun had never seen so many Dragonite in one place before.
As she was stared at by the group of Dragonite couriers with their big eyes, she froze, stunned by the sight.
It wasn't until the group of Dragonite lost interest and turned away, flying toward the ranch, that Xiaochun's tense nerves finally relaxed a little.
Having dealt with Dragon-type Pokemon for many years, Xiaochun could sense that these Dragonite meant no harm; they were simply curious.
Xiaochun turned her gaze to the ranch and said to the Dragonite beneath her, "Dragonite, let's follow them!"
"Dragon!"
The Dragonite responded with a roar before diving forward. Soon, it brought its Trainer to a spot above the ranch.
Below them, the group of Dragonite that had arrived earlier had already landed and dispersed.
Some Dragonite found a shady spot and sat down, somehow producing a Pokeblock case and indulging in the treats with a leisurely air.
Others had Lotoad phones floating in front of them, and these Dragonite were chattering away to the phones.
Yet others ran into a building, emerging with bottles of fresh milk that they stuffed into their shoulder bags before taking off again, flapping their dragon wings.
At that moment, Xiaochun also spotted a tall man walking out of a room.
Beside him was a mysterious Pokemon with a robust build and a wild aura.
The Pokemon had a pair of captivating golden irises and was covered in scarlet scales, beneath which lay terrifying muscles that seemed to exude explosive power even to the naked eye.
Xiaochun sensed an incredibly dense dragon aura emanating from this Pokemon.
This immediately made her realize something—this Trainer was also an expert in using Dragon-type Pokemon!
Believing that lovers of dragons are inherently good people, Xiaochun's eyes lit up, and although she was extremely excited, she maintained a calm demeanor and had her Dragonite land in the ranch.
"Garchomp?"
Naoki, who was loading cargo onto Garchomp, suddenly heard its call.
"What is it, Garchomp?" Naoki asked, turning around.
The next second, he spotted a Dragonite he had never seen before landing in his ranch.
Soon, a tall figure leaped off the Dragonite and landed gracefully on the grassy ground.
Naoki heard the person speak to him respectfully, "Senior, I am Xiaochun from Blackthorn City in the Johto region. I've heard of your fame and have come here specifically to visit you!"
Hearing this name, Naoki froze for a moment.
Xiaochun? Did he hear that right? Wasn't she Ado's cousin and the Gym Leader of Blackthorn Gym?
"Blackthorn City? You're from the Dragon Tamers family, aren't you?" Naoki asked, glancing at the Dragonite beside Xiaochun.
Xiaochun's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected that he would guess her background so quickly. How did this senior figure it out?
What surprised Xiaochun even more was the hermit-like aura the man exuded.
"You have a sharp eye, Senior!" Xiaochun nodded.
Naoki: "..."
He felt a bit uncomfortable with Xiaochun's respectful attitude, but that seemed to be how she was portrayed in the anime.
Coming from the Dragon Tamer family, she deeply loved Dragon-type Pokemon and could understand their emotions, calming even angry Dragon-type Pokemon.
Moreover, Xiaochun greatly respected strong Trainers who specialized in Dragon-type Pokemon, like her cousin Ado and the Driftveil Gym Leader, Drayden.
"What brings you here?" Naoki asked.
"I've collected eight badges from the Padia region and passed the Champion's test," Xiaochun said frankly. "The Chief Examiner said that I now have the qualifications to battle you, so I want to challenge you to a Dragon Duel!"
Naoki was stunned.
The Gym Leader of Blackthorn Gym had gone to the lengths of traveling to the Padia region, collecting eight badges, and passing the Champion's test, all for the sake of battling him?
This was a bit too much, wasn't it...
"I understand," Naoki sighed helplessly. Since Xiaochun had gone through so much trouble to battle him, he couldn't just let her leave without a match.
"Alright then, let's have a battle!"
Hearing this, Xiaochun's eyes sparkled, and a serious expression appeared on her face. "Senior, please give me your guidance!"
"If I'm not mistaken, you only want to battle my Dragon-type Pokemon, right?" Naoki asked as he led Xiaochun toward the battle area.
Xiaochun nodded. "Yes, preferably a 6-on-6 Dragon Duel!"
Naoki: "..."
Six against six... That meant he would have to send out six Dragon-type Pokemon.
But the only Pokemon on the ranch that could truly be considered battle Pokemon were the three: Motostoke, Golett, and Noivern, not counting the delivery Noivern and Giratina.
"I only have three Dragon-type Pokemon that can fight at the moment," Naoki said.
Although Xiaochun felt a bit disappointed, she quickly thought that this was still pretty good. If she went all out, perhaps her Pokemon would gain a significant boost in the battle.
With this in mind, Xiaochun nodded and said, "Then please take care of me!"
Naoki nodded and asked Golett to call over Motostoke and Noivern.
Soon, all three Pokemon gathered and stood in a row behind Naoki.
Xiaochun's gaze swept across the three Pokemon.
On the far left was a Motostoke, a Pokemon she had encountered during her Gym Challenge journey, although that one had been wild.
Naoki's Motostoke, however, looked rather ordinary and didn't seem to be one of his main battling Pokemon.
In the middle stood a Noivern, which should be the one Ado mentioned, capable of seizing the weather advantage.
Seizing the weather, huh? In that case, she would borrow the weather it summoned later! Xiaochun decided to make use of it.
As for the Pokemon standing on the far right, Xiaochun heard Naoki call it Golett.
Her dragon intuition told her that this Golett was extremely dangerous. Its dragon aura was the densest among the three, and its strength was likely the greatest as well.
In that case, she would use it first!
Xiaochun threw a Poke Ball into the air.
A flash of white light later, a Pokemon with a ferocious expression and fierce eyes slammed onto the battlefield.
"Whoosh!"
Seeing that both trainers were ready, the referee, Ai-Chan the Waiter, blew the whistle in his hand.
The first match of the Dragon Showdown: Motostoke vs. Garchomp!
"Garchomp, Dragon Dance!"
At the start of the battle, Xiaochun waved her hand, choosing a steady and conservative strategy.
Seeing this, Naoki also instructed Motostoke, "Shift Gear."
On the battlefield, Garchomp jumped into an intense war dance, and the tires on Motostoke's chest began to spin at high speed, emitting a white light.
Before Garchomp could finish its Dragon Dance, Motostoke had already shifted gears successfully.
"Dragon Claw!"
Motostoke immediately rushed forward, and its large claws were engulfed in a thick purple light. The light transformed into a pair of massive dragon claws that swung towards Garchomp.
Coincidentally, as Garchomp's Dragon Dance was about to end, Xiaochun ordered, "Waterfall! Interrupt its attack!"
However, before she could finish her sentence, Motostoke's dragon claws struck Garchomp, leaving three distinct claw marks on its chest.
Garchomp, in pain, roared angrily. It swung its massive tail, and a surge of water energy swept upward, creating a torrent of waves with its powerful sweep.
"Avoid it!"
At Naoki's command, Motostoke quickly retreated.
Garchomp's Waterfall attack slammed into the ground.
"Such speed!" Xiaochun exclaimed in surprise.
However, the next moment, Motostoke charged at Garchomp again, its tail wrapped in dragon energy, and it swept toward Garchomp with force.
Not to be outdone, Garchomp swung its thick tail as well.
The two tails collided, creating a burst of water that continued to clash and merge, eventually exploding into a downpour of water, as if it were raining.
Garchomp breathed heavily, and as the Dragon Messenger, Xiaochun naturally knew what Dragon-type Pokemon feared the most.
Without hesitation, she ordered, "Garchomp, Ice Fang!"
"Motostoke, Thunder Bolt!"
"Buzz, buzz, buzz!"
Amid the rapidly spinning gears, a sizzling sound emerged, and the yellow electric current enveloped Motostoke's body.
Motostoke locked its eyes on Garchomp and, in the next moment, charged forward with great speed.
As soon as Xiaochun saw the electricity on Motostoke, she knew something bad was about to happen.
This Motostoke actually knew Electric-type moves! But it was too late to do anything now.
On the battlefield, the two Pokemon collided.
Before Garchomp could bite with its Ice Fang, a powerful electric current surged into its body.
The Electric-type move clashed with Garchomp's Flying and Water-type, creating a violent explosion. Garchomp's eyes widened, and it soon lost its ability to battle due to the intense pain.
Xiaochun: "!!!"
Ai-Chan the Waiter stepped forward to examine Garchomp and then announced, "Ai-yah!"
"By teaching Pokemon more moves, you can give them the ability to face a wider range of opponents.
"That's enough," Naoki said.
"I concede," Xiaochun said. She had lost not only because of the information gap but also because Milotic was simply no match for Noivern's speed.
"Return, Milotic!" Xiaochun recalled her Pokemon and reached for another Poke Ball.
With a flash of white light, a new Pokemon appeared on the battlefield. It resembled a seahorse with dragon-like horns and beautiful shimmering scales.
Naoki recognized it as Kingdra.
The final evolution of Seadra and one of Xiaochun's signature Pokemon.
"You're switching Pokemon?" Naoki asked. "Return, Motostoke! Noivern, this one's up to you now!"
"Garo!"
"Owo!"
The two Pokemon switched places, with Motostoke returning to Naoki's side and Noivern taking to the skies, its cute big eyes staring at the Kingdra.
The second match of the Dragon Showdown: Noivern vs. Kingdra!
As soon as the battle began, Noivern summoned a storm as it usually did.
In an instant, the weather changed drastically.
What was once a clear sky now poured down torrential rain, accompanied by a fierce gale.
The storm swept through the entire battlefield.
Noivern flapped its dragon wings, standing firm in the midst of the tempest as if unaffected by the chaotic elements.
Witnessing this display, Kingdra became cautious, and a frown appeared on Xiaochun's face.
Duo's words rang true; this Noivern had a unique talent for Rain Dance, preventing its opponents from stealing its weather advantage.
However, that didn't faze Xiaochun.
"Kingdra, Yawn!" Xiaochun commanded with a wave of her hand.
Kingdra yawned at Noivern, and the contagious effect immediately took hold.
"Noivern, stay awake! Hang in there!" Naoki's voice rang out.
Noivern...
Somehow, Noivern managed to resist falling asleep!
"It resisted the Yawn?" Xiaochun was slightly surprised, but she didn't dwell on it as her plan had already succeeded!
"Kingdra, now! Use Dragon Pulse while it's still groggy!"
Following her command, Kingdra's mouth glowed with a chilling beam of light.
The next second, the beam shot forth, freezing the falling raindrops in its path as it barreled towards Noivern with fierce intensity.
Noivern was hit, and the pain jolted it awake, its face contorting in agony as it lost its ability to fly and crashed to the ground.
That incredibly powerful Dragon Pulse had dealt a severe blow!
Seeing this, Naoki furrowed his brow.
Something was off! Why was that Dragon Pulse so strong?
As if reading his thoughts, Xiaochun smiled and explained, "My Kingdra has the Sniper Ability, you know?"
The Sniper Ability increased the power of moves when they landed critical hits.
"But for it to still be standing after taking that hit... Could its Ability be Multiscale?" Xiaochun wondered aloud.
Naoki sighed. "Looks like we'll have to go all out now."
"Then, please give me your best, Senior!" Xiaochun shouted as she gave her next command. "Kingdra, Dragon Pulse again!"
"Noivern, Hurricane!" Naoki's voice overlapped with hers.
Noivern soared into the air, flapping its wings to generate a powerful storm.
The already fierce storm intensified further.
The immense force of the wind made it difficult for Kingdra to maintain its balance.
The Dragon Pulse it had been charging dissipated into thin air.
Xiaochun's eyes widened as she realized her mistake.
Staring at the terrifying storm before her, a sense of fear crept into her heart.
Was this the true strength of Senior Naoki?!
Alarmed, Xiaochun shouted, "Kingdra, steady yourself!"
But before she could react, a thunderous roar filled the sky.
Xiaochun looked up instinctively to see an incredibly thick bolt of lightning crashing down from the clouds. The intense flash of electricity engulfed Kingdra's body.
A violent gust of wind followed, and in that moment, the wind, rain, thunder, and lightning merged, creating an even more formidable force.
With a deafening "BOOM," the ground was charred black by the lightning strike.
Soon after, the rain gradually stopped.
On the ground lay Kingdra, its body blackened and exhausted, its eyes spinning like spirals of incense smoke.
