Feng Bu Jue finished reviewing the reward list. His level remained unchanged at 11, though his experience had reached 4,900/11,000, and his game currency now totaled 77,000. It seemed his earlier worry about leveling up too quickly had been unfounded—his progress was actually far too slow.
This round’s experience gains were average. In team survival mode, the skill point bonus granted ten times the skill points and a hundred times the game currency, while single-player survival mode (common) offered just one time and ten times respectively—a massive difference. Additionally, the scenario’s duration impacted experience gains. This one had lasted roughly an hour longer than Feng Bu Jue’s previous scenario. Though the difficulty wasn’t high—scenarios with lower combat intensity were never challenging for him—the base experience earned was slightly higher than before.
Even so, these gains weren’t enough to level up. Without unlocked world views, completing four to five scenarios of similar difficulty would be required to ascend a single level.
This highlighted how grueling it was for studio members. From the closed beta’s launch on April 4th at 8:00 AM to April 6th at midnight—a span of about forty hours in real time—they’d had to convert this into game time across both modes, subtracting mandatory offline intervals. In the virtual world, they’d likely fought nonstop for five days to reach level 20.
Feng Bu Jue’s total playtime in the virtual world hadn’t even reached ten hours. Compared to the elites, he was still a novice.
“Hmm… I’ll take experience points this time,” Feng Bu Jue muttered. “Xiao Tan’s level will probably lag one or two behind mine for now… but once the open beta starts, buying experience-boost items should let him catch up quickly.” He mused, “That said… leveling up after 11 is slow, but during the closed beta phase, a five-level gap doesn’t mean much. A level 10 and a level 15 player only differ by 500 stamina value points. While equipment can temporarily boost strength, improving proficiencies and mastering skills seems the long-term solution. Like…” His mind flashed to Siyu Ruoli’s graceful sword strike, “Her level isn’t much higher than mine, but her skill… her martial arts proficiency must already be D-Rank.”
Opening his game menu, Feng Bu Jue checked his proficiencies. After the last scenario, they’d become: Universal E, Mechanics E, Scouting E, Martial Arts E, Shooting F. Only Medicine remained unopened.
In short, he’d upgraded all four F-Rank proficiencies to E.
【E-Rank: Poor, Beginner Level. Skill activation success rate: 40%】
So far, aside from Medicine, Feng Bu Jue was marginally proficient in all areas but excelled in none—a glaring weakness for combat.
Additionally, his title 【Cold-Blooded Headhunter】 remained unchanged, retaining its special ability 【Concussion】.
After reviewing the system’s summary, Feng Bu Jue entered the metal chamber outside the elevator. This time, three glass columns stood inside: one for random skill cards, one for Fear Rating rewards, and one for the hidden task’s equipment.
He approached the Fear Rating reward first. A prompt appeared:
【Select Your Additional Reward:
1. Random Level-Appropriate Equipment
2. 50,000 Game Currency (Maximum)
3. 4,400 Experience Points】
“So, as long as I achieve ‘Fearless’ at level 10 or above, the currency reward stays at 50,000…” Feng Bu Jue noted.
With game currency still useless and its exchange rate to real money unclear, he opted for experience points. Adding this 40% boost to his current level, his experience jumped to 9,300/11,000. Completing another scenario should push him to level 12.
Next, he claimed the random skill card from the clearance reward column. Examining it:
【Name: Brat’s Low Kick】
【Skill Type: Active Skill | Expires After 3 Uses】
【Skill Category: Martial Arts】
【Effect: Ignores proficiency level. 100% chance to trip any theoretically topple-able monster and provoke it to attack】
【Consumption: 100 Stamina Value】
【Learning Condition: Martial Arts Proficiency F or Level 10+】
【Background: This is the Blue Cat’s Three Thousand Kicks of Mischievousness!】
“What the heck…” Feng Bu Jue stared at the card. The absurd name and background made him cringe, but the skill’s effect seemed surprisingly strong.
Still, he decided to prioritize equipment. Skills like this—clearly meant for trolling—wouldn’t sell well post-beta, and giving it away felt like foisting garbage on others.
After equipping it, he finally had a usable active skill. He moved to the last glass column, hoping his luck had improved.
Deep down, he suspected the worst. The hidden task reward had specified “random fine-grade equipment” without mentioning level-appropriate, meaning it was at least fine-grade but possibly unusable.
White light coalesced into a belt-like item. Feng Bu Jue’s first thought—Batman’s utility belt—was wrong. This was better.
【Name: Echo Armor】
【Type: Armor】
【Quality: Fine】
【Defense: Strong】
【Attribute: Cushion】
【Special Effect: None】
【Equipment Condition: Universal Proficiency C or Apparatus Proficiency D】
【Background: After collecting fragments of Black Bolt’s whispers, Dr. Doom forged this device. Activating the belt grants an invisible ‘sound’ armor.】
The equipment was powerful, but Feng Bu Jue couldn’t equip it yet. Still, he stored it in his satchel—his Mechanics Proficiency was already E, and raising it to D in the next scenario would let him use it immediately.
His satchel now held 7/10 slots: Mario’s Pipe Wrench, Eye of Hostility, Western Chef’s Knife, Baseball Bat, Flashlight, M1911A1 Pistol, and Echo Armor.
Jazzy Moves equipped to his feet, not occupying satchel space. The inventory remained unchanged: a spare flashlight and a puzzle card.
After collecting rewards and preparing, Feng Bu Jue returned to the elevator, summoning Wang Tan Zhi. Xiao Tan transferred team leadership before joining the queue for tonight’s second team survival scenario.
