Chapter 53: The Bandit Leader Cultivation Plan (1)
Chapter 53: The Bandit Leader Cultivation Plan (1)
September 25, 2017
Lu HaiKong was unaware that he had caught someone's attention, as he was currently deep in thought, calculating a financial plan.
He was contemplating how to spend 1,700 gold coins wisely. Lu HaiKong never intended to keep this sum for himself, as hoarding it would render it worthless.
The dilemma Lu HaiKong faced was how to utilize this money effectively. Initially, he planned to expand his bandit legion, as his Leadership attribute had reached 5 points, and with Wang Chao and Ma Han's assistance, he could recruit enough troops to increase his force to 150 men.
This number was five times Lu HaiKong's current strength, making it seemingly the most logical choice. However, Wang Chao and Ma Han's recent advancements revealed an alternative path to Lu HaiKong.
Since the bandit profession offered such significant benefits upon leveling up, and the requirements were as simple as reaching a certain bandit level, why not focus on a more elite force?
To train an ordinary bandit to Wang Chao and Ma Han's current level would cost 500 copper coins for recruitment, 5 gold coins for a Basic Inner Strength manual, 5 gold coins for a Bandit Captain Certificate, 100 gold coins for a Bandit Leader Certificate, and 50 gold coins for a secret manual like the Gale Blade Technique or Thunderbolt Gunsmanship. In total, this would cost only 160 gold and 500 copper coins.
With his current financial resources, Lu HaiKong could afford to cultivate ten such bandits. Ten bandits, even at the most basic warlord level, would be far more valuable than 150 bandit infantry in every aspect.
Of course, recruiting 150 bandit infantry would cost less than 1,700 gold coins, but the hassle and effort would be far greater.
After much deliberation, Lu HaiKong decided to focus on quality over quantity. He chose to cultivate only eight bandits, as Wang Chao and Ma Han each had four bandits under their command.
Previously, to save money, Lu HaiKong had neglected to equip these eight bandits, who still only knew a single Basic Martial Skill. However, after a month and a half of training, they had all reached Bandit Level 5, and due to their specialization in a Basic Skill, most of their primary skills were already at Level 3 or 4.
Lu HaiKong took notice of them and decided to bring them under his command. He called them over, reassigned them to his name, and gave them new surnames, Wang and Ma, followed by names in the order of 'Avengers, Robbing the Rich to Aid the Poor.'
He then distributed eight copies of the Basic Inner Strength manual, the Basic Archery manual, the Riding Handbook, and the Bandit Captain Certificate to them.
These eight bandits were even simpler than Wang Chao and Ma Han. They didn't know how to express gratitude, so they took everything Lu HaiKong offered without hesitation and immediately put them to use. Thus, Lu HaiKong gained eight new bandit captains.
Name: Wang Dai
Occupation: Bandit Captain
Level: 01
Lord: Lu HaiKong
Loyalty: 75
Attributes:
Strength: 6, Agility: 5, Intelligence: 5, Constitution: 5
Inner Energy: 10
Basic Command: Level 1
Skills: Basic Gun Technique: Level 6 (1/500) (Piercing Shot)
Basic Archery: Level 3 (1/500)
Basic Inner Strength: Level 3 (27/500)
Riding Skill: Level 2
Status: Healthy
Lu HaiKong realized that a Bandit Captain Certificate only provided him with a few attribute boosts, but for Wang Chao and Ma Han, it resulted in a direct two-level increase in all their skills, an effect that was incredibly powerful.
After examining the attributes of these eight individuals, Lu HaiKong once more congratulated himself on his astute decision. Once he had fully equipped the 'Avengers' with gear, he took them out with the intention of swiftly leveling them up. As soon as they reached level 5, he was prepared to invest a substantial sum of money to instantly promote them to the rank of Bandit Chiefs.
By this time, the Refugee Camp that Lu HaiKong had previously cleared was almost entirely respawned, so he led the eight Bandit Chiefs to clear it again.
With three Bandit Chiefs and eight Bandit Leaders, they were a formidable force. Whether they encountered Refugee Camps of fifty or several hundred, Lu HaiKong and his team charged in without a moment's hesitation.
In the 1619 version, there was no error!
Of course, there was no real reason to hesitate; it was a complete and utter steamroll.
In just half a day, Lu HaiKong's team had conquered nine Refugee Camps, an efficiency that left others in awe. During this process, Lu HaiKong also noticed that these Refugees seemed stronger than the last time he had cleared them. It appeared that each respawn increased their strength.
The drop rate had also improved significantly. Typically, clearing nine Refugee Camps would yield around thirty gold, but this time, they obtained a whopping fifty gold. Although Lu HaiKong now had some money in his pocket, it was unlikely that anyone would complain about having too much.
With this in mind, Lu HaiKong suddenly looked forward to encountering the Refugee Camp where Zhang Wen had been. Logically, that camp should have respawned stronger. He wondered if it would yield some valuable loot.
The last time he cleared that Refugee Camp, Lu HaiKong had been pleasantly surprised to find a 'Village Establishment Document' and a mysterious scroll. These were indeed valuable items.
Speaking of scrolls, Lu HaiKong couldn't help but sigh when he thought about the martial skill 'Mountain-Cleaving Strike' he had learned from one such scroll. Despite having mastered it, he had never used it.
It wasn't that Lu HaiKong didn't want to test the skill's power; it was that he couldn't control it properly.
The prerequisite for using 'Mountain-Cleaving Strike' was immense strength and 500 Inner Energy points to unleash its full potential. Lu HaiKong didn't currently possess 500 Inner Energy points, and while his strength was not quantifiable due to the attribute system, he could sense that he needed to at least reach level 4 in 'Bull Power' to meet the requirements for the skill.
However, Lu HaiKong could use 'Mountain-Cleaving Strike' prematurely without issue, but it would result in severe backlash. The extent of this backlash was something Lu HaiKong wasn't interested in finding out at the moment.
As Lu HaiKong reminisced about 'Mountain-Cleaving Strike', they finally arrived at the Refugee Camp where Zhang Wen had been previously.
