Chapter 53: Looking for You
Chapter 53: Looking for You
The night sky was adorned with scattered stars, and the slums were shrouded in tranquility, with barely a shadow in sight.
Guo Ye and his two companions leaned against the wall, constantly gazing into the distance.
As time ticked by, the trio grew restless.
"How long has it been? Why hasn't that guy shown up yet?" One of them complained.
"Yeah, he's probably just playing with us, making us wait here all this time," another said, looking at Guo Ye.
Guo Ye's heart began to pound with unease.
Yes, that kid is probably doing this on purpose.
He made us wait here for him, but he never intended to come back.
Thinking about how they hadn't earned a single cent today, he felt like a fool for waiting so long. His anger rose.
Just then, faint footsteps echoed in the distance.
The three of them immediately looked up.
A figure emerged from the darkness.
"Jiang Cheng, you finally came," Guo Ye said with a broad smile.
The other two also smiled, all traces of their previous complaints gone.
"Lead the way."
The newcomer was none other than Jiang Cheng, and he didn't waste any time with words.
"Okay, okay," Guo Ye nodded like a chick pecking at rice, leading the way.
After several twists and turns through the alleys, they stopped in front of a mud-brick house.
Guo Ye pointed to a house on the right, whispering, "Jiang Cheng, that's where Liu Yang and the other two live."
A faint glow emanated from the house, indicating someone was inside.
Jiang Cheng glanced at it and asked, "Do all three of them live together?"
"Yeah," Guo Ye explained. "If they live together, they only need to pay a thousand yuan in management fees to the Wild Wolf Gang each month. If they lived in two different places, they'd have to pay an extra thousand yuan."
Jiang Cheng nodded and scanned the trio. "I'll go take a look. You guys stay here, don't move, and don't make any noise."
The three exchanged glances and nodded.
Jiang Cheng tiptoed towards the house Guo Ye had pointed out.
As he approached, he could vaguely hear voices.
He reached the front door and pressed himself against the wall, listening intently.
Inside the house, Liu Yang and his two companions were seated around a table with bowls and plates, but they were empty, indicating they had just finished dinner.
"Burp..."
One of them belched and said, "If only there was more meat. I can't stop eating."
"You're complaining? I only ate a few pieces, and you ate the rest."
"Is that so?"
The man protested, "I only ate three pieces."
As he spoke, he glanced at Liu Yang.
"Alright," Liu Yang coughed. "It's just a few pieces of meat. Once we save up that thousand yuan, I'll take you guys out for a meal."
"Liu Yang, talking about this makes me angry. If Jiang Xiong and his gang had acted sooner, we wouldn't have so many problems. They had to delay for a day, and then that kid went and got a membership card that very day. It makes me so mad!"
"Exactly. He's acting all innocent, but one day, I'm gonna teach him a lesson."
"Teach him a lesson? How?"
Liu Yang laughed.
"Just the three of us? How can we teach him a lesson?"
"Liu Yang, we can't beat them in reality, we can only vent our anger behind their backs."
"Yeah, they have the protection of the Wild Wolf Gang. How dare we even think of fighting them?"
Jiang Cheng didn't continue listening.
He moved quietly and approached the house where Guo Ye and the others were waiting.
The trio had been growing restless for a while.
Action: Upon seeing this, he quickly asked, "Jiang, is it right? Liu Yang and those three guys, they live here."
"Later, you come with me, and get them to open the door."
"What?!"
Guo Ye exclaimed, then quickly covered his mouth, "Jiang, Jiang, what did you just say? You want me to go and call them out?"
"What else?"
Jiang Cheng gave him a cold look, "Get them to open the door, and I'll forget about what happened between us. As long as you don't cause me any trouble, I won't bother you either."
Guo Ye felt like crying.
What a joke, they dare to cause trouble for Jiang Cheng, do they think they've lived too long?
But if he opens the door...
Liu Yang knew it was his doing, and he might not have a future with him.
Although he wasn't afraid of them in his heart, it wasn't wise to make enemies for no reason.
"Hmm?"
Jiang Cheng's gaze turned cold.
Guo Ye was scared stiff.
He turned to look at the two lackeys beside him and realized that, without noticing, they had retreated two meters away.
Seeing him look their way, they both turned their heads away.
"Two ungrateful bastards."
Guo Ye cursed inwardly.
But now that things had come to this, refusing would be worse than refusing from the start. Refusing now, after bringing them here, would be displeasing everyone.
"Jiang, I'll go and get them to open the door, but I have a small request." As he said this, he timidly glanced at Jiang Cheng.
"Go on."
"When I get them to open the door, Liu Yang and the others will definitely know that I'm with you. After that, they won't dare to touch you, but they might dare to mess with us. So, if they beat us up later, Jiang, can you help us get back at them?"
Guo Ye revealed a pleading expression.
"Sure."
Jiang Cheng readily agreed.
This made Guo Ye feel uneasy, thinking that he might have just agreed casually, not even listening to what he was saying.
"Don't worry."
Seeing this, Jiang Cheng added, "I assure you, those three will never be able to get back at you."
Hearing this, Guo Ye finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Jiang Cheng was selling on the street, and it would be too easy for them to find him.
But he didn't look happy, knowing that these things would happen, he shouldn't have left the house today. No, he shouldn't have agreed to Liu Yang's request in the first place, getting involved in this mess.
"Give me the sticks in your hands."
Jiang Cheng said to the two who were two meters away.
The two exchanged glances and obediently handed over their sticks.
Jiang Cheng weighed them, they were made of solid wood, almost a kilogram.
"Let's go, remember, don't betray me, or you know the consequences."
"We won't, we won't."
Guo Ye smiled bitterly, how dare he?
"Jiang, please don't say anything later, I'll handle everything."
The two arrived at Liu Yang's residence, one behind the other.
As they didn't try to hide their footsteps, as soon as they approached, those inside heard them, and the conversation inside abruptly stopped.
The two outside exchanged glances.
Guo Ye knew there was no turning back, he took a deep breath, extended his hand, and knocked on the door.
"Liu, are you asleep?"
"Who is it?"
A voice came from inside.
"It's me, Guo Ye."
"Guo Ye?"
A cold hum sounded from inside.
"You still have the nerve to find me? I was just about to look for you!"
Hearing this, Guo Ye immediately relaxed, knowing that calling on Liu Yang today was a sure thing.
