Chapter 53: Despondent Norbert
"Just gave it some training", Ivan explained, trying to hide the two-handed greatsword that wasn't much smaller than himself. It was already too late to dispel the Transfiguration Spell.
Hagrid looked at the sword, which was over a meter tall, and his mouth twitched. Fortunately, Hagrid's quick scan revealed no cuts or wounds on Norbert, which made him sigh in relief.
Knowing he couldn't hide it any longer, Ivan waved his Wand and transformed the greatsword back into a Broom. He then spoke straightforwardly to Hagrid.
"Hagrid, you're being way too lenient with Norbert. We need to find a way to discipline it, or it will tear your house apart in a few days."
"And we also need to train it to hunt and fight", Ivan added.
"But Norbert is still too young. You might scare it", Hagrid hesitated.
"Norbert, lie down!" Ivan suddenly commanded, wanting to show Hagrid the results of his training.
After hours of training, Norbert had already formed a basic reflex and instinctively lay down. Realizing he had a protector, Norbert got up again and hid behind Hagrid, baring its sharp teeth at Ivan.
This dog-like behavior made Ivan want to laugh.
Hagrid also saw the change in Norbert, feeling a mix of joy and sadness, as if his child had finally grown a bit.
"Maybe we can wait until Norbert is a bit older?" Hagrid asked in a low voice.
"If you want to keep Norbert a bit longer, you should start training it now!" Ivan shook his head firmly. No way, if Norbert got any bigger, Ivan doubted he could handle it.
Ivan's words were the final straw that tipped the balance in Hagrid's mind. He knew Ivan was right; if things continued like this, Norbert would soon be exposed.
"Alright, but don't be too rough during training", Hagrid said, his heart aching.
"Hagrid, if you have time, we can train Norbert together", Ivan suggested, a thought striking him.
If Hagrid, the Half-Giant, could help, there would be no need for the Transfiguration Spell and the binding play. Hagrid's strength would be enough to physically restrain Norbert.
Thinking about how Ivan had commanded Norbert, Hagrid was somewhat tempted. Although he found Norbert's destructive behavior cute, who wouldn't want a child that is both lively and obedient?
"Alright, but I'll be patrolling the Forbidden Forest recently, so I'll only have time in the Evening." Hagrid said.
"Forbidden Forest? What's going on there?" Ivan asked, his heart tightening.
Hagrid hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should share the information. But after Ivan persisted, he finally revealed some details.
"A Unicorn was attacked."
"Fortunately, it managed to escape, though it was injured. I'm patrolling the Forbidden Forest to figure out what attacked it. If the attacker didn't succeed this time, they might come back."
Hagrid's tone was somber; he couldn't imagine what evil creature would attack a sacred Unicorn.
Ivan fell silent, knowing that the attacker was definitely Quirrell, but he couldn't stop it.
Because hE had Previously reported Quirrell together with Harry, but it was clear that Dumbledore Did not intend tO take action against him at the moment, going again would likely result in the same Outcome.
Ivan was already somewhat regretful about altering the Plot tO avoid being Disturbed, as in this situation, Hagrid, who frequently Entered and Exited the Forbidden Forest, might Encounter Danger.
Hagrid was unaware Of Ivan's concerns. After muttering curses at the attacker Of the Unicorn, hE Enthusiastically Discussed Dragon Training and Dragon breeding methods with Ivan.
Ivan could Only temporarily suppress his worries and began Explaining tO Hagrid.
Norbert, who had initially felt hE had found a reliable supporter, shivered as hE noticed the change in Hagrid's Expression.
In the following Days, the things Ivan feared Did not happen. With Hagrid's help, Norbert lost the last bit Of resistance.
Hagrid found new joy in training, teaching Norbert tO lie Down, roll Over, and breathe fire, Enjoying the various commands immensely.
This routine was highly uncomfortable for Norbert, a Norwegian Ridgeback accustomed tO tearing things apart, sleeping, and roasting in the fire, making him feel as if life was not worth living.
The Only warmth hE felt in this cold life was During the Daily fish roasting sessions.
"Ivan, wE can't gO On like this anymore!"
In the quiet Library, Hermione's voice, filled with anger and a hint Of helplessness, suddenly Echoed, Drawing the attention Of the Other Young Wizards, including Madam Pince.
The young witch blushed and lowered her voice,
"The Exams are coming uP, and wE should bE reviewing! Not reading books unrelated tO the Exams!"
"It's just an Exam. DO you really need tO review? You should already know the material, right?" Ivan Put Down his copy Of "A Guide tO the Care Of Magical Creatures" and asked curiously.
"Just knowing isn't Enough. TO get an O (Outstanding), it's not that Easy", Hermione said, growing increasingly anxious as the Exam Date approached.
In the Past, she would still Discuss Dragon breeding methods with Ivan During her free time, but recently, she had Devoted all her attention tO reviewing.
"Especially my Transfiguration Spell. Compared tO you, Ivan, I still have a significant gap. I can't Even imagine what it would bE like tO fail the Transfiguration Exam. If I Only get an E (Exceeds Expectations), how Disappointed Professor Mcgonagall would bE", Hermione said, her lips Pressed together in frustration.
Beside her, Harry and Ron, who were trying tO memorize key Points, innocently looked uP, not understanding what Ivan and Hermione were talking about. In their view, as long as they Didn't get a P (Poor) Or a D (Dreadful), they would bE fine.
An O (Outstanding) rating was too far from their reach.
"Hermione, your Transfiguration Spell is already very good. Many upper-year students are at this level. You'll have nO Problem getting a high score On the Transfiguration Exam", Ivan said, closing his book.
HE wasn't trying tO comfort Hermione.
When Hermione used the Transfiguration Spell last time, Ivan had roughly Determined that her skill had already reached the second level, which was the standard for most third and fourth-year Young Wizards.
Even if Professor Mcgonagall was Picky, she wouldn't hesitate tO give an Outstanding rating.
