Chapter 53: Can We Subscribe Monthly?
---
“Keek?”
Asleep?
Gastly, who was clinging to the ceiling with a "Protect" TM, saw Jing He walk in from the balcony and couldn’t help but ask.
“Yeah.”
Jing He nodded.
He had a strange feeling.
For some reason, he felt that "Eevee Eats Cabbage" seemed more enthusiastic about hypnotherapy than Magikarp.
But it didn’t matter.
In the end, it was all about helping Magikarp.
Besides, the other party had given so much in return.
“How’s it going? Is ‘Protect’ easy to learn?”
After a quick wash, Jing He sat down at his desk and couldn’t help but tease the serious-looking Gastly with a smile.
He prided himself on being a "genius with exceptional talent," but the difficulty of "Protect" was far beyond that of "Substitute."
“Keek, keek!”
Of course, it’s a piece of cake!
Gastly stiffened, his eyes slightly panicked, but he still gave an affirmative answer.
Jing He didn’t want to crush his confidence, so he smiled and turned to do his own work.
Seeing this, Gastly breathed a sigh of relief.
That was close.
But soon, his eyes narrowed, and he took on an extremely serious expression.
No, I must learn "Protect," or my "genius" persona will crumble!
He landed on the desk and carefully opened the iron box, as if afraid Jing He would hear him.
Inside were the two remaining energy blocks from the training in Sootopolis Town.
Orange and red.
Which one boosts Special Attack?
Forget it.
Eating them both will be even better!
Gastly steeled himself and flicked his tongue, swallowing the remaining energy blocks in one go.
“Sss—”
The intense spiciness and bitterness exploded in his mouth, almost making him spew fire.
But, to be honest, these energy blocks, combined with the sensory stimulation, did have an effect.
Yeah, I’m feeling more alert!
Meanwhile, Jing He, sitting at his desk, flipped through Kusune’s "Fearful Insights."
At first, it was fine, but the more he read, the more cold sweat trickled down his forehead.
“Poison Barb, Black Sludge, Spirit Veil, Curse Charm, Haunter’s roots, and Crying Mask’s mask…”
All these small and large items added up to several million, right?
Not to mention the regular expenses and the cost of learning moves.
Kusune must have spent at least fifty million to raise a Gengar!
Jing He turned to look at the blushing Gastly.
Is this a Pokemon?
This is a gold-guzzling beast!
“Keek, keek?”
Gastly also noticed Jing He’s gaze.
They locked eyes, both panicking, and quickly looked down.
Did he see me sneak those energy blocks?
This notebook must never fall into Gastly’s hands!
Late at night, a full, flawless moon hung high in the sky, casting a serene glow over the black velvet expanse.
Occasionally, a few Noctowl flew by the window, chasing the last mosquitoes of autumn. Jing He yawned, his eyes watering.
He hadn’t stayed up this late reading since he graduated.
He had to admit, the Champion Kusune’s "Fearful Insights" had been incredibly beneficial, especially in terms of how to raise Gastly. He now had a clearer goal and a better idea of how to evolve Gastly.
“Gastly, aren’t you tired yet?”
Putting away the notebook, Jing He looked at Gastly.
But as soon as he did, he was startled.
Gastly’s eyes were bloodshot, his lips dry, his tongue hanging out, and he looked like he had been drained several times over. Even the dark mist around him seemed to have thinned.
“Keek, keek…”
Gastly managed a weak smile.
A mere "Protect," no problem.
“Have you… really learned it?”
“Keek—”
Of course—
Not!
It’s so hard!
Tears welled up in Gastly’s eyes.
Gastly: (;Д`)
Jing He breathed a sigh of relief.
He was genuinely afraid that Gastly would learn "Protect" so quickly, which would mean buying another TM.
“It’s okay, we have plenty of time. No need to rush. Take it one step at a time.”
“Keek, keek~~” Gastly pouted and floated in front of Jing He.
I can only use it halfway.
“Halfway?” Jing He was taken aback. “What do you mean?”
“Gengar!”
Jing He’s expression changed as a black mist swirled around Ghost, forming a thin green barrier around its body. It was only half as effective as the “Protect” used by Armord, and only covered half of its body.
But, if half can be used, can it be fully mastered?
“Gengar?”
Jing He’s expression froze as Ghostly wavered in front of him.
Suck—
Before he could react, Ghost licked its tongue up.
Jing He shuddered, his spirit returned.
Facing Ghost’s “What’s wrong?” gaze, he took a bite of a “Cherry” fruit.
“It’s nothing, I just thought of something important.”
He casually took out his phone.
Don’t mention it.
He had set his phone to silent mode due to reading, and when he took it out, there was actually a message.
【Ibuse Cabbage】: Someone ran to my house in the middle of the night, claiming they discovered a new tactic, waking me up. Now I can’t sleep. What should I do?
【Ibuse Cabbage】: Running to a girl’s house in the middle of the night to challenge her?
Jing He’s eyes twitched.
This person is either a fool or seriously ill.
After reading the message a few minutes ago, Jing He thought for a moment before preparing to reply, but another message came through.
【Ibuse Cabbage】: The moon tonight is so full and round.
The initial picture was a full, bright moon illuminating the grass and a lone, large tree.
The scenery was quite nice.
But upon closer inspection, Jing He’s cold sweat trickled down.
A person hung on the tree’s branch, wearing black cowpie pants, and a red explosive head could be faintly seen. Below the tree, a knocked-out black Rooka lay.
Ah
Biting his lips, Jing He still replied, after all, he had to rely on her for his well-being.
【Jing He】: Do I need to help Ibuse Cabbage sleep?
Thinking of him as a Pokemon psychologist, he had even become a sleep master.
The heart doesn’t lie, under the moon’s light.
【Ibuse Cabbage】: Can you cover the moon? Or the year?
Jing He: “? ?”
“Cough.” Jing He lightly coughed, to Ghost, “Don’t run around, I’m going to make a call.”
As he spoke, he headed to the balcony.
“Gengar~”
Ghost showed a moved expression.
To cultivate myself, working so late, it’s hard for him. I have to work even harder!
Bathed by the moonlight.
Jing He dialed through.
“Hello~”
A lazy voice came from the other end.
But before Jing He could speak, he suddenly noticed something seemed off below.
He saw a shadow running downstairs, followed by a large mouth bat and two ultra bats, flapping their wings, occasionally attacking the shadow.
The large mouth bat chasing stinky mud?
Is this some Pokemon horror drama code?
“Still there?” The voice came again from the other end.
“Sorry, wait a moment.”
Jing He said, then shouted inside, “Ghost!”
“Gengar?”
Ghost immediately floated out, looking puzzled.
Jing He indicated it should look below, and said:
“Help it.”
Though it was stinky mud, it hadn’t hurt anyone.
And he had fed it energy blocks.
Then.
“Ow~”
A weak, painful cry came from the shadow.
This was clearly not the stinky mud’s voice!
Meanwhile, Ghost had already stuck out its tongue and rushed downstairs.
And Jing He immediately stuffed his phone into his pocket, turning to run out of the house.
Running down the small path.
Following Ghost’s voice, he finally found Ghost, covered in trash and stinky mud.
Ghost was dealing with the large mouth bat and two ultra bats, its body covered in garbage and stinky mud, lying on the ground, a streak of red standing out.
“Ow~” a weak voice came.
As he approached, despite the stink, Jing He walked quickly without hesitation.
He could faintly see six tails tangled together in the stinky mud!
