Chapter 53: Alley Bloodbath: Indifference
Chapter 53: Alley Bloodbath: Indifference
The two youths hurried into the alleyway, feigning frantic searches while subtly positioning themselves.
True to expectation, four figures soon emerged at the alley’s mouth, fanning out to seal the only escape route.
Moonlight poured from behind them, casting four jagged shadows across the ground that crept menacingly toward Luo En and Andie like hunting predators.
“Looks like our luck’s in tonight,” growled the lead Half-Beast, his voice rasping like a saw grinding against steel. “Two plump lambs wandered straight into the wolves’ den.”
His maw stretched wide, revealing a mouthful of dagger-like fangs. “We’ve heard you’re carrying treasures. Surrender them, and we might let you live.”
“We’re just common travelers passing through,” replied Luo En, his voice trembling with feigned fear. Somehow, his feet had inched closer while he spoke. “Please let us go—we don’t have anything valuable.”
The three Half-Beasts erupted into cruel laughter, while the Goblin lurking at the rear fixed a greedy gaze on Luo En’s satchel, his tongue instinctively licking his lips at the thought of Mana Shard Fragments inside.
“Cut the act, brat,” snarled the Half-Beast leader, advancing with a thunderous step. “We’ve been watching you spend coins all day. Now hand over that pouch, or else—”
He brandished a gleaming battleaxe, its blade streaked with dried blood. “Or I’ll carve you into paste!”
“Ready?” Luo En murmured to Andie, his terrified expression replaced by icy calm.
Andie tightened his dagger and nodded. “I don’t know your plan, but I’ll follow your lead.”
“You take the left one. The rest are mine.”
As he spoke, Luo En slipped a small Agility Elixir into Andie’s palm. “Drink this if things get dire—it’ll boost your speed.”
The Half-Beasts lost patience. With a roar, the three hulking brutes lunged forward, their massive frames making the narrow alley feel like a slaughterhouse.
The moment they entered his spiritual influence range, Luo En’s eyes glowed with unnatural cold light.
Spiritual energy erupted, rippling outward in an invisible shockwave.
—Spirit Interference!
A fundamental ability of elementary apprentices, normally weak against peers but devastating against instinct-driven foes like these Half-Beasts.
The unseen wave tore through the alley like a gale, instantly slowing the attackers. Confusion flickered in their eyes as if struck by invisible mallets. They staggered, shaking their heads to clear the invasive chaos—but it was futile.
“Now!” Luo En barked, channeling spiritual energy into a spiraling formation.
—Sound Wave Oscillation
Invisible ripples shot from his palm, slicing through the air to strike the Half-Beast leader. A force from within began shredding his body. The monster’s face contorted in agony as blood seeped from his nose and mouth.
“Hiss…”
A flash of steel. Luo En’s ironwood sword, enhanced with the Piercing Edge enchantment, carved through the leader’s throat like butter.
The Half-Beast collapsed, clutching his neck with trembling hands while emitting a grotesque gurgle. Moments later, his two-meter frame slammed to the ground, convulsing before going still.

Meanwhile, Andie seized the opening. Like lightning, he lunged at the leftmost Half-Beast, his dagger flashing toward its throat.
Though the beast’s hide was tough, Spirit Interference had dulled its reflexes. The dagger sliced its neck, spraying blood. The Half-Beast howled and stumbled back, refusing to fall.
These creatures possessed monstrous resilience—wounds that should have been fatal only slowed them.
The third Half-Beast had already shaken off the interference. Roaring, it charged Luo En with its axe raised.
Unfazed, Luo En raised his hand again. Spiritual energy condensed, then struck the attacker’s chest point-blank.
The effect was identical—its massive body stiffened before crashing down, writhing in pain as guttural roars echoed.
Two down. The battle had turned.
The last Half-Beast, though wounded, swung wildly at Andie, refusing to yield.
Andie danced around the strikes, his agility tested in the tight space.
Seeing their comrades fall, the Goblin finally panicked and turned to flee.
“Don’t let it—!” Andie began shouting.
But Luo En’s lips curled. His spiritual energy surged again, forming a more stable spell structure this time.
The third ripple shot forward, striking the Goblin’s back mid-sprint.
The creature twisted unnaturally mid-air before hitting the ground, dead. Unlike the Half-Beasts, its frail body couldn’t withstand internal destruction—no chance to struggle.
Witnessing his last ally fall, the remaining Half-Beast’s eyes widened with terror. It dropped its axe and turned to run, screaming, “Wizard!”
“Hmph.” Luo En leapt forward, hurling his ironwood sword. It buried itself in the beast’s unguarded waist.
The giant collapsed. Andie finished it with two slashes.
Within mere seconds, three towering Half-Beasts and the cunning Goblin lay dead—Luo En and Andie unscathed.
This ambush, which should have been deadly, became a one-sided massacre under the Wizard Apprentice’s terrifying spiritual techniques.
“Is this the power of becoming an apprentice?” gasped Andie, awe in his eyes. “I barely defeated one, but you took down two Half-Beasts and a Goblin in moments…”
Luo En said nothing. He approached the Goblin’s corpse, searching it methodically.
Strange—though he’d accepted the law of survival, his indifference to this carnage felt unsettling, as if his empathy had withered.
“You can ignore slaughter,” he muttered, rifling through loot. “But never life itself…”
