Chapter 527: First Day of Work
Chapter 527: First Day of Work
Lu Jiaxin had promised Nie Zhan that she would start work after the Lunar New Year, but now she didn't feel like traveling. She returned to Hong Kong and, after resting for two days, headed to work.
Upon arriving at Green Forest, Xu Yue and Susan, accompanied by the company's middle management, came to greet her. In the past, idol dramas portrayed company leaders welcoming their bosses. Now, well, it felt like those scenes.
Lu Jiaxin didn't mind the two of them; they meant well, introducing her to the company's middle management. Although Lu Jiaxin had visited twice, the company had recently recruited some senior staff who weren't familiar with her.
Entering her office, Lu Jiaxin noticed a computer on her desk, along with a pot of lush, green lucky bamboo.
A smile curved Lu Jiaxin's lips as she asked, "Who bought this lucky bamboo?"
Susan smiled and replied, "I bought it. I specifically asked Su Heyuan for advice, and he suggested this."
Su Heyuan, their boss, had a money tree in his office, symbolizing his wish for huge profits. Susan felt that a money tree was too vulgar and that Lu Jiaxin wouldn't like it, so after some consideration, she opted for lucky bamboo instead. As it turned out, her choice was spot on, as the boss preferred something elegant and tasteful like this.
Lu Jiaxin asked Xu Yue and Susan to stay while the other senior staff left. Before they departed, she added, "We'll have a meeting in the conference room in half an hour."
"Okay," they replied.
After the two had left, Lu Jiaxin walked over to the window. Her office boasted floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a clear view of the office building across the street.
Lu Jiaxin noticed someone in the office opposite brewing coffee and furrowed her brows slightly. Green Forest occupied a total of 22 floors of the rented building, with the company located on the 18th floor, and her office enjoying the best position on that floor. However, the current setup meant that just as she could see the people in the office across the street, they could also see her. Relocating to a new office building wasn't a simple matter and would require careful consideration from multiple angles. Moreover, if they were to move, it would need to accommodate Five Blessings Jewelry and the future cosmetics company under one roof.
Half an hour later, Lu Jiaxin arrived at the conference room, where everyone was already assembled.
After a brief introduction, Lu Jiaxin first praised Green Forest for its impressive performance, acknowledging everyone's hard work. She then pointed out some mistakes and shortcomings and explained that if they weren't rectified, they could hinder the company's future development.
Lu Jiaxin's words were thoughtful and convincing, leaving the new senior staff feeling confident that they had made the right choice in joining the company.
After discussing Green Forest's operations, Lu Jiaxin announced, "I plan to create a casual wear brand that includes both men's and women's clothing.
After speaking, she turned to the group and said, "The casual wear brand is just the first step. In the future, I also plan to create children's brands, lingerie brands, and trendy labels."
Susan and Xu Yue knew that she had always wanted to create her own brands but never had the time before. Smiling, Susan said, "Boss, then we'll need to recruit designers from the industry."
Recruiting designers was just one part of the process; she also intended to set up her own factories so that they wouldn't have to rely solely on processing plants.
Xu Yue asked, "Boss, what will we name this brand?"
Lu Jiaxin, who wasn't particularly creative when it came to names, replied, "Excellent Choice."
Susan asked, "Excellent Choice... does it mean that when buying clothes, consumers will prioritize our brand?"
"Yes, it's the brand name, and it's also our goal," Lu Jiaxin confirmed.
Everyone felt that the name wasn't very impressive, but since Lu Jiaxin was the boss and she liked it, they didn't object.
Lu Jiaxin's requirements for the clothing line were clear. First, she wanted to use high-quality fabrics because she believed that comfort was of utmost importance. Second, the styles had to be appealing. And third, excellent customer service was a must.
The meeting started at 9:30 a.m. and lasted until noon. By the time it adjourned, Lu Jiaxin felt like her throat was on fire. She had drunk two cups of water during the meeting, but it didn't help—she had talked too much.
As soon as she sat down in her office, Lu Jiaxin received a call from Nie Zhan: "After work, I want to go straight home and lie down. I don't feel like eating out."
"What's wrong with your voice?" Nie Zhan asked.
"My throat feels uncomfortable from talking too much," Lu Jiaxin replied glumly. It had been a while since she last worked, and she had forgotten how tiring it could be. From now on, she decided to take it easier and let her subordinates come up with the proposals and solutions.
Although she was standing on the shoulders of giants, she was also aware of her own shortcomings. Moreover, some of the technologies she was used to from her previous life had not yet been developed in this era. For instance, dyeing and printing technologies were certainly not as advanced as they would be in a few decades, so she would need to heed her subordinates' opinions as well.
Nie Zhan felt guilty for being neglectful, but he also never expected Lu Jiaxin to be such a chatterbox: "Then take a rest now, and I'll come to pick you up after work."
"Okay," Lu Jiaxin agreed.
After a short rest in her office, Miao Na brought her lunch—a nutritious and well-balanced meal consisting of three meat dishes, three vegetable dishes, and a soup.
Haunted by the memories of her previous life, Lu Jiaxin wasn't fond of eating at street stalls or diners. She much preferred home-cooked meals. As for dining out, she was fine with it occasionally, as long as it wasn't too frequent.
After lunch, she took a 10-minute break before walking slowly on the treadmill for 20 minutes, and then she finally retired to the inner room to rest.
In the afternoon, she had separate chats with Susan, Xu Yue, and the financial director. By the time Nie Zhan came to pick her up after work, her voice had completely gone hoarse.
With a stern expression, Nie Zhan said, "Your voice was already uncomfortable from talking too much in the morning, so you should have gone home to rest in the afternoon. Jiaxin, you really don't take good care of yourself."
At this point, Lu Jiaxin didn't feel like talking anymore; she just wanted to go home.
Ignoring Lu Jiaxin's protests, Nie Zhan took her to see a doctor. It was a well-known traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who examined her and then prescribed ten small packets of medicine: "Go home and brew one packet to drink. For the next few days, try to speak as little as possible."
Lu Jiaxin nodded in agreement.
On their way home, Nie Zhan said, "Jiaxin, let me manage Green Forest. You can go back to trading stocks and foreign exchange, and travel when you have free time, just like before."
Lu Jiaxin understood his concern, but she had no intention of becoming a kept woman until she fulfilled her unaccomplished dreams from her previous life: "Give me ten years."
She believed that in ten years, Green Forest and the brands she planned to create would be sold worldwide. If she couldn't achieve that, well, she would give up on the idea of traveling the world.
