Chapter 525: Repaying the Debt Before Meeting Again
Chapter 525: Repaying the Debt Before Meeting Again
Lu Jiajin knew that Lu Jiaxin had returned, so he went to find Lu Hongjun and asked him when they would be going to Shichahai. He wanted to tag along with his uncle.
Lu Hongjun glanced at him and said, "Jiaxin doesn't want you and Jiazong to come along. Later, only your eldest uncle and his family will accompany me."
Lu Jiajin was bewildered. "I can't go with my second uncle? Why not?"
If Lu Jiaxin was truly angry, she would have washed her hands of the matter and not gone to such great lengths to bring him back, only to avoid seeing him now. Lu Hongjun couldn't understand her line of thought.
"Anyhow, if she doesn't want you there, don't go. Jiaxin is soft-hearted, but she won't yield if you push too hard. If you insist on going, she'll only get angrier," Lu Hongjun advised.
Lu Jiajin fell silent.
Lu Ersao brought Xiao Qiu along, refusing to let Jiazong tag along. Before leaving, she scolded him, "You're all talk and no action. Your intentions are transparent to Jiaxin."
If it were just about the adoption, she could have helped explain things, but the fact that a few instigating words from Tang Sufen were enough to incite his dissatisfaction was unforgivable. Oh well, she didn't plan on justifying his actions anyway. From now on, she would be the one making decisions for the family.
Upon arriving at Shichahai, the children played together while the adults refrained from bringing up the subjects of Lu Jiazong and Lu Jiajin. Instead, Lu Zhenzhen asked about the matter, "Aunt, why haven't Uncle Wu, Qiangqiang, and Xiaofeng arrived yet?"
Qiangqiang and Xiaofeng had frequently stayed at Lu Jiaguang's house over the past two years, and the children had naturally grown close, often spending time together during such gatherings. It was almost mealtime, yet they still hadn't arrived, which led her to believe they had been delayed.
Lu Jiaxin didn't bother making up an excuse. "Your Uncle Wu owes me a lot of money. He can only come over after he's repaid me."
Lu Zhenzhen asked in confusion, "He can only come after repaying the debt? Aunt, how much does Uncle Wu owe you?"
Lu Jiaxin didn't try to downplay the situation for Lu Jiajin's sake. "210,000 green dollars, which is equivalent to 800,000 yuan. Your family's current residence costs over 130,000 yuan. You do the math; how many houses like yours could Uncle Wu buy with the money he owes me?"
In reality, the 30,000 green dollars spent to retrieve Lu Guangyuan and Sun Qi were a bargain, as the initial expenses were the most significant. However, Lu Jiaxin had a soft spot for that seal, so she wouldn't have gotten involved otherwise.
Lu Zhenzhen was good at math, and she quickly calculated, "We could buy six houses like ours and still have money left over."
Previously, they had known that over 200,000 green dollars were spent to find Lu Jiajin, but it had never been so starkly apparent. Especially for Lu Jiaguang and Wang Xiaojie, countless people envied their spacious home. Yet, because Lu Jiajin didn't heed their advice, they had incurred such a substantial loss.
After finishing her calculations, Lu Zhenzhen, with her big eyes wide open, asked, "Aunt, what did Uncle Wu do to owe you so much money?"
Lu Jiaxin didn't answer her question directly. "You can ask him the next time you see him."
Lu Zhenzhen felt that it must not have been something good, or else her parents wouldn't be wearing such gloomy expressions.
After the meal, Lu Hongjun brought up a matter with Lu Jiaxin, "Jiaxin, I want to go back to our hometown in the spring. My health is deteriorating, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the trip later on."
Lu Jiaxin thought for a moment before replying, "Big Brother and Shanzi are both busy, so they probably won't have time to send you back after the spring. Why don't you wait until summer vacation? Lu Ping and Lu An will have time then, and they can accompany you on the trip."
Lu Hongjun didn't want to go back during the summer; it would be too hot. "Ms. Gu has a lot of bodyguards here, right? Just have one of them accompany me."
Lu Jiaxin looked at him. "With your current health, do you think a bodyguard would dare to send you back alone? If something happens to you on the way, they won't be able to take responsibility for it."
"Then let's bring Jiazong along as well," suggested Lu Hongjun.
Lu Jiaxin looked deeply into Lu Hongjun's eyes and said, "Since you don't mind, I have no objections. I'll have Zhang Kun accompany you on your way back; he's rather meticulous."
In truth, the best candidate would be Xing Ziyang, but he needed to help watch over and protect Gu Xiuxiu, and she didn't fully trust anyone else.
Lu Hongjun nodded and said, "Jiaxin, I'll be staying here tonight and head back tomorrow."
He spoke cautiously, causing Lu Jiaguang and the others to twitch their eyelids. They all shared the same thought: if they had known things would turn out this way, they would have acted differently from the start!
This time, Lu Jiaxin didn't agree with her father. She said, "If you plan to leave tomorrow morning, who knows what that woman might do? Last time, she instigated Second Uncle, and this time, she might just show up at our door to hurl abuse."
Of course, if Tang Sufen dared to show up at her doorstep to scold her, Lu Jiaxin would send her on a two-week vacation to the detention house without hesitation, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience.
Lu Hongjun was momentarily lost for words. After staying the night here previously, he had felt well-rested and enjoyed the food. He had been looking forward to another comfortable stay, especially since Lu Jiaxin's attitude towards him had improved, but now it seemed that Tang Sufen was holding him back.
Lu Jiaguang asked, "Jiaxin, when are you leaving?"
"I'll be leaving tomorrow. There's a bunch of things I need to take care of in Hong Kong," Lu Jiaxin replied.
Upon hearing this, Lu Jiaguang asked Wang Xiaojie to take the children and leave with Lu Hongjun first, as he had some questions for Lu Jiaxin. In fact, he had wanted to ask these questions a long time ago but had refrained from doing so over the phone.
Lu Jiaxin led Lu Jiaguang to the study, and after they sat down, Lu Jiaguang asked, "Jiaxin, I heard that the newspapers in Hong Kong are proclaiming you as Hong Kong's number one female tycoon."
Lu Jiaxin thought it was something more serious. "It's just the entertainment newspapers hyping things up. This kind of company tends to exaggerate and sensationalize to boost sales and make more money."
"Jiaxin, there's a saying that goes, 'The bigger the tree, the stronger the wind.' You don't have any backing in Hong Kong, so you must be careful in your actions, or you might attract unwanted attention again," Lu Jiaguang advised.
It seemed that they were all aware of her kidnapping incident.
Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "Big Brother, don't worry. If the kidnappers dare to make a move, I'll make sure they regret it."
Guwen Feng and Yan Yijun had recruited six retired soldiers. They had already prepared their documents before the new year, and they were currently undergoing training. Of course, six people were not enough; she needed at least twenty bodyguards so that they could take turns when traveling.
Hearing Lu Jiaxin's words, Lu Jiaguang felt that while the entertainment news might be exaggerated, Jiaxin must have earned a substantial amount of money, given her confident tone.
Knowing his personality, Lu Jiaxin said, "Big Brother, as the saying goes, 'Three strikes and you're out.' Fifth Brother has ignored my warnings more than three times already. This time, not only will I make him repay the 800,000 yuan, but I will also cut off my resources from him."
Home appliances were a very profitable business, and Su Heming's factory produced electric fans, televisions, and refrigerators. If her guess was correct, Lu Jiajie was probably planning to recover his health and venture into the home appliance business. She was determined to block this path for him, forcing him to rely on his own abilities to make a living.
Lu Jiaguang wasn't foolish either, and he understood what she meant. He hesitated for a moment before saying, "Jiaxin, do we have to do this?"
"If I let this matter of 200,000 yuan slide, he still won't learn his lesson. Big Brother, you shouldn't help him anymore either. Otherwise, he'll continue to act so recklessly, thinking that someone will always be there to bail him out," Lu Jiaxin said.
"Big Brother, if you don't listen to me and he drags you down with his actions in the future, I won't get involved," she added.
Lu Jiaguang sighed but didn't say anything further.
