Chapter 525: No One Understands Spirit Beasts Better Than Me
Chapter 525: No One Understands Spirit Beasts Better Than Me
"It's not uncommon for spirit beasts within the blessed land to occasionally exhibit aggressive behavior towards their own kind, mimicking the actions of cultivators. However, the frequency of such occurrences has been far greater lately." Fire Spirit solemnly explained.
"In recent times, there have been no fewer than ten such incidents."
"Moreover, there's one common factor among the spirit beasts that have fallen into a frenzied state—they've all ventured into the Black Demon Abyss not long ago."
"Either as a means of transportation or fighting alongside their companions, helping to dismantle array formations and dealing with sinister beasts."
"That does seem rather abnormal," Lu Chen acknowledged with a slight nod.
"The most pressing concern right now is that if we can't pinpoint the source of the spirit beasts' chaos, it won't just be those ten-plus beasts affected. The entire blessed land, with its countless spirit beasts, could be in danger."
"It might even spread to the entire sect." Fire Spirit conveyed the potentially dire consequences of the Spirit Beast Disorder to Lu Chen.
"Hence, Master Cangwu has decided to invite several renowned fellow disciples within the sect who are adept at raising spirit beasts. Naturally, that includes you, Junior Brother Lu."
"Let's not delay then, Senior Brother. I'll accompany you on this endeavor." Lu Chen replied with a smile.
The two quickly made their way to the Formation Hall and utilized the teleportation array within.
Not long after, Lu Chen found himself standing on the familiar thick cloud layer, with several cloud cottages faintly visible amidst the billowing white clouds.
"Lu Chen, you've arrived." A familiar voice echoed in Lu Chen's ear.
Before the voice had even faded, Master Cangwu appeared before him, his upper body bare and his body resembling forged iron. A smile graced his face.
"Greetings, Master," Lu Chen bowed respectfully.
"No formalities are necessary. I'm afraid I'll have to trouble you with something, Nephew Lu," Master Cangwu said as a light yet irresistible spiritual force lifted Lu Chen up.
"It's my duty, Master," Lu Chen humbly replied.
"Among the inner sect disciples invited, aside from yourself, there are two others with profound knowledge of spirit beasts. Nephew Lu, please proceed to the cloud cottage to rest for a moment."
Lu Chen nodded in agreement and entered the largest cloud cottage in the center, accompanied by Fire Spirit.
The moment he stepped into the cottage, Lu Chen felt a slight relaxation in his heart.
After breaking through to the late Qi Refining stage, he hadn't encountered any Core Formation Masters from his sect, and he couldn't help but feel a bit apprehensive. He worried that his true cultivation level would be seen through at a glance, leading to unnecessary trouble.
Fortunately, the Qing Feng Yu Yi was adept at concealing his spiritual aura, and the Core Formation Masters hadn't tried to scrutinize him specifically. Thus, he managed to pass by unnoticed.
"Senior Brother Lu," a handsome young man greeted him as soon as he entered. It was Sun Yun, who had stayed in the blessed land to tend to the spirit beasts.
When Lu Chen had first entered the blessed land of the Myriad Demon Cave, Sun Yun had resented him for taking control of the land midway. However, after witnessing Lu Chen's prowess with spirit beasts and his rapport with the major fifth-grade and sixth-grade protective spirit beasts of the sect, Sun Yun had wholeheartedly acknowledged his skill.
"Junior Brother Sun, are the protective spirit beasts of the blessed land, like the dragon turtle and the green-hill fox, all doing well?" Lu Chen inquired.
"Those protective spirit beasts haven't shown any abnormalities so far," Sun Yun replied.
"That's good to hear," Lu Chen said, slightly relieved. He then asked about some simple matters regarding the Spirit Beast Disorder.
A moment later, Master Cangwu returned to the cloud cottage, followed by two inner sect disciples. One had a sturdy build with knotted muscles and a fierce aura akin to a ferocious beast. The other had a cold demeanor, with intricate and vibrant patterns on his cheeks. His gaze fixed on Lu Chen, his eyes as indifferent as a serpent's.
"And this is Chen Luo. He has reached the perfect foundation-establishment stage and enjoys hunting all kinds of demons. By dissecting and studying them, he has gained an intimate knowledge of many demons and also mastered a secret healing technique."
"Greetings, Senior Brothers," Lu Xuan said with a smile.
"We've heard a lot about you, Junior Brother Lu," Chen Luo acknowledged with a nod.
"It's been a while, Lu, I never expected to run into you here in the Myriad Demon Cave," Zhong Hao said. "But given your expertise with spirit beasts, it would have been strange not to."
Zhong Hao, with his sturdy build, strode forward and slapped Lu Xuan's shoulder in a familiar manner.
The two had met a few times before. Their first encounter was when they resolved the obsession of the Green Mystical Deer, and then again when Zhong Hao needed help with a pair of Yin-Repelling Beasts he was breeding. Lu Xuan had not only helped solve their breeding problem but had also obtained a pair of Thunder-Repelling Stones, solving his problem with cultivating the Lightning-Struck Wood. Lu Xuan had also introduced Zhong Hao to the taming of young spirit beasts like the Lion-Bird Beast, so they had a certain degree of friendship.
Once the three of them had arrived, Master Cangwu led them to a restricted area.
Inside, over ten variously shaped spirit beasts were tightly bound by rope-like magical artifacts, their necks adorned with collar-like artifacts covered in complex talisman inscriptions.
The spirit beasts' auras were unstable, as if they were on the verge of erupting at any moment. Their eyes were a vivid red, and they let out low growls at the sight of Lu Chen and the others, showing no signs of their previous taming.
Sensing the abnormality in the spirit beasts, the rope artifacts shone with a faint spiritual light, digging deeper into the beasts' flesh.
"Who wants to go first?" Master Cangwu asked.
"I will," Zhong Hao volunteered. "I'm relatively skilled at communicating with spirit beasts, so I'll see if I can get them to tell us anything."
Zhong Hao stepped forward, his spiritual power surging as he let out a series of beastly roars, seemingly trying to guide the abnormal spirit beasts.
After a while, he stepped back, his expression somewhat dejected.
Seeing the expectant looks on the others' faces, he shook his head. "Their roars are incoherent; I can't make out anything they're saying."
"They seem to be in a confused state and can't clearly express what's happening to them," he reported to Master Cangwu.
When communicating with the spirit beasts, he could only vaguely sense their thoughts, making it difficult to gain a precise understanding of their subtle conditions. Now that the spirit beasts were in an abnormal state and unable to express themselves clearly, his communication abilities were greatly diminished.
"Let me try," Lu Xuan said, stepping forward.
But before he could make a move, the cold Chen Luo stepped ahead of him.
"I've raised and killed all of these spirit beasts," Chen Luo said confidently. "I know their habits, physical characteristics, and peculiarities inside out. No one understands them better than I do."
A layer of spiritual light appeared on Chen Luo's palm as he pressed it against a demon beast, carefully examining every inch of its flesh.
Then, several slender, pale insects crawled out from behind his neck and entered through the spirit beast's orifices.
After a moment, they returned to Chen Luo's body.
Chen Luo stood still, deep in thought, his expression contemplative.
"Well, Chen?" Master Cangwu prompted.
"Internally, everything seems normal—their blood, organs, flesh, and bones show no abnormalities," Chen Luo replied. "But it seems certain that something has invaded their sea of consciousness. However, as to what this foreign object is and how to find it, I'm at a loss for now."
