Chapter 525: Makarov's Scheme (1st Update)
Chapter 525: Makarov's Scheme (1st Update)
In Magnolia City, inside a house floating ten thousand meters above the ground.
Jerry stood on the magic experiment platform, quickly constructing a black magic array:
"Soul Devour!"
Instantly, a black ghost capable of devouring life, magic power, and souls emerged from the magic array.
Jerry directed the black ghost to suck at the Goat tied to the opposite side. The Goat, which had been struggling, was instantly drained of its soul and flesh, leaving only a dried skeleton as if it had been left out in the sun for months.
"Not bad!"
With a wave of his hand, Jerry dissipated the ghost and nodded in satisfaction.
During the week of the Council's trial, he wasn't idle. On the second night, he quietly sneaked into the Council's dungeon and captured Jose and Aria, who were still severely injured, bringing them into the Ring World.
Jose's Dark Magic could devour life, magic power, and souls, making it extremely brutal. Aria, a wind elementalist, could drain her opponent's magic power with her Wind Magic, though it required a sneak attack, the effect was significant.
These two types of magic were something Jerry hadn't encountered before, and he wasn't about to let them go.
It was precisely because of Jose and Aria's disappearance that the Council was able to reach a judgment so quickly.
They assumed that Jose and Aria had fled out of fear of punishment.
"Mirajane is looking for me?"
Just as Jerry was about to continue experimenting with other Dark Magic, he noticed that a crystal ball on the nearby table began to glow.
The Magic Conductor Crystal Ball, a magical device used by mages in this world for long-distance communication, was given to him by Mirajane a few days ago to ensure she could reach him in case of an emergency.
He channeled magic power into the crystal ball, and Mirajane's image immediately appeared.
"Jerry, the Guild Master needs to see you!"
"Did Natsu and the others break something again?"
Jerry asked habitually.
Mirajane covered her mouth and smiled.
"They went to accompany Lucy back home and haven't returned yet. The Guild Master wants to chat with you."
"Alright, I'll be right over!"
Jerry paused for a moment, then nodded and shut off the crystal ball.
It was a good opportunity, as he had been planning to talk to Makarov about something anyway.
Over the past few days, he had been busy interrogating Jose and Aria about their respective magics in the Ring World, so he hadn't had the chance to approach Makarov with his request to learn the Fairy Law.
Now that Makarov was looking for him, it was the perfect time to bring it up.
In the Fairy Tail Guild, Jerry knew it was best to be straightforward about any matters rather than hiding them, as that often backfired.
If Makarov was willing to teach him, that would be ideal. If not, he could propose a trade, offering something in return. If all else failed, he could consider other measures later.
This approach was more efficient, as constant probing would only waste time and yield no results.
So, after changing into a fresh set of clothes, he used a Phantom Shift to appear in front of the bar in the guild hall.
"Good morning, Mirajane. Where is the Guild Master?"
"Ah, Jerry, you're as quick as ever. The Guild Master is waiting for you in his office on the second floor."
Seeing Jerry appear right after the crystal ball went dark, Mirajane sighed in admiration and pointed upstairs.
Second Floor, Guild Master's Office.
Makarov looked at the financial report showing a deficit for the month and downed a large glass of beer in frustration:
"Almost there, almost there. Just hang on a bit longer, and I'll be free from this. Then I won't have to worry about these things anymore!"
"Guild Master, it's Jerry!"
Hearing the voice from outside the door, Makarov hurriedly stuffed the financial report into his desk and laughed, "Jerry, come in, come in!"
"Guild Master, Mira said you wanted to see me?"
Jerry pushed open the door and asked, looking at Makarov sitting at his desk.
Makarov put down his glass, his expression turning slightly more serious.
"Ahem, yes, I do have something important to discuss with you!"
"Something important?"
Jerry's face showed a hint of confusion, deciding to wait until Makarov finished before bringing up his own request.
"Jerry, you've been a member of the guild for a month now. How do you find our guild?"
Makarov didn't immediately get to the point but instead asked a question.
Jerry nodded.
"It's great. Everyone is sincere and united, and the guild atmosphere feels very comfortable."
He was speaking the truth, reflecting his feelings over the past month.
Makarov's face lit up with a smile, and his tone became more animated.
"Yes, the founding principle of our guild is to create a place where everyone can trust and help each other, a place as warm and harmonious as a family. Everyone can bravely pursue their own paths within the guild!"
"A wonderful ideal."
Jerry nodded again, though he didn't understand why Makarov was saying all this.
After finishing, Makarov jumped down from his desk, stood in front of Jerry, and stared at him, speaking slowly:
"So, Jerry, are you willing to get along well with everyone in the future?"
"I am!"
Jerry felt Makarov's question was a bit strange, but given the seriousness, he quickly nodded in response.
"Are you willing to help your guildmates when they encounter difficulties?"
Makarov's pace suddenly quickened.
"I am!"
Jerry nodded.
"Are you willing to stand up and contribute your strength when the guild faces enemies?"
Makarov continued.
"I am!"
Jerry nodded again.
"Are you willing to help the guild become better and better?"
Makarov's pace quickened even more.
"I am!"
Jerry felt like he was nodding like a bobbing chicken.
"Then, are you willing to serve as the Fourth Generation Fairy Tail Guild Master?"
Makarov's words were so fast that it was hard to make out what he was asking.
"I am, but... Guild Master, what did you just say?"
Jerry nodded but then realized something was off. He stared at Makarov, wide-eyed.
Did Makarov just ask if he was willing to serve as the Fourth Generation Fairy Tail Guild Master? Could he have heard wrong?
"Great, since you're willing, that's settled then. I'll officially hand over the position to you on the day of the Harvest Festival in two months. I'll gradually spread the news so everyone can get used to it, and you should prepare yourself."
Makarov jumped up, patted Jerry's shoulder, and, without waiting for Jerry to react from his shock, immediately ran towards the door, as if afraid Jerry might call him back.
