Chapter 524: The Summons
Chapter 524: The Summons
In a training facility somewhere in the Victory Zone, Su Wei was shirtless, relentlessly striking a human-shaped target. Each strike engaged his entire body, causing sweat to fly with every movement, demonstrating immense strength. Yet, despite the precision of his strikes, the target remained unharmed, a testament to his meticulous control over his Fa Jin.
Ever since arriving in Central City, Su Wei had been on standby, but he received a monthly salary. It wasn't a substantial amount, but it was enough for him to live in Central City and earn an income without having to work. This was something he had never dared to imagine before.
Aside from essential living expenses and training supplies, he sent all his remaining money to the families of his injured and fallen teammates.
In his eyes, Central City was a paradise for cultivation. Not only could he find various martial arts forums, but he also didn't have to constantly worry about his activity index or be on guard against hostile enemies.
Of course, it wasn't that Central City's security was that good; it was just that, as a Third Limit Fighter, ordinary people couldn't pose a threat to him.
Moreover, the dangers in Central City were far less compared to the Fusion Territory. In the Fusion Territory, everyone had to hide in the gathering cities at night, and no one dared to venture out. But in Central City, he could go out anytime, anywhere.
As Su Wei was deep in training, his Interdimensional Link suddenly rang. He immediately stopped and answered the call: "Captain?"
Chen Chuan's voice came from the other end: "Fighter Su, I need to see you."
Su Wei's expression turned serious. "Where should I meet you?"
His Interdimensional Link then displayed a location.
"Meet me here," Chen Chuan said.
Su Wei checked the location, which was also in the Victory Zone, and the time was before eleven o'clock, about an hour away, not too far from his current location.
"I'll be right there," he said.
After ending the call, he quickly washed up, changed into clean clothes, and took the tram. In about twenty minutes, he arrived at the designated location.
He found himself in an abandoned commercial area, devoid of the familiar neon lights, only graffiti, weeds, and some stray cats and dogs wandering around. There were also a few homeless people muttering to themselves.
As he was looking around, his Interdimensional Link rang again: "Fighter Su, come over here."
Su Wei followed the direction indicated by the Interdimensional Link and saw a half-constructed, abandoned high-rise building. It looked old, and he walked towards it on a path covered in gravel. Entering the building, he looked up and climbed the bare staircase to the rooftop.
Chen Chuan was already waiting there. "Fighter Su, the surveillance in Central City is quite strict these days. Every move is being watched, not just by the official authorities but also by various companies keeping an eye on fighters. It's more convenient to talk here."
Su Wei wasn't from Central City, so he wasn't sensitive to the city's situation. But just hearing these words, he understood that something was up.
He recalled that in the apartment he had been staying in recently, city patrols often came for inspections. He remembered that it wasn't like this when he first arrived in Central City.
"Captain, what's the matter?" Su Wei asked solemnly.
Chen Chuan didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked at Su Wei and said, "Speaking of which, I haven't tested your skills since recruiting you to the team. I want to see what you've got today."
"Okay!" Su Wei replied. His expression was serious, and although Chen Chuan was younger, Su Wei knew that Chen Chuan's ability to determine the number of enemies and their combat methods through the Interdimensional Link alone indicated an undoubtedly high level of skill.
Moreover, ever since they met, Chen Chuan had exuded an oppressive aura that made Su Wei subconsciously tense up. This was a clear sign that Chen Chuan's skills surpassed his own.
The rooftop was spacious, and the building was deserted, so he could fight without restraint.
He stepped back a bit, glanced at Chen Chuan, and seeing that Chen Chuan didn't intend to attack, he took a step forward. The floor shook violently, and a large circle cracked open beneath his feet.
As he approached, he threw a punch.
Chen Chuan stood still, merely raising his arm to block the punch.
At that moment, Su Wei was mid-air, and as their bodies made contact, the power he had been holding back within him burst forth.
This was the Two-Stage Power technique.
This attack style was well-known, but few could use it well, and Su Wei was among the best.
His goal wasn't to defeat Chen Chuan in one blow but to break the floor beneath them. With their combined strength, the floor would surely shatter, and if Chen Chuan lost his balance, it would provide an excellent opportunity to gain the upper hand, even if he couldn't defeat Chen Chuan.
To his surprise, Chen Chuan firmly withstood the force of his attack, not even budging an inch. Moreover, the floor beneath didn't even crack.
Su Wei immediately realized that Chen Chuan's Alienated Organization had skillfully absorbed and redirected the force, a highly advanced technique.
Seeing that his attack hadn't succeeded, Su Wei, still in mid-air, kicked out, seamlessly connecting with his previous punch and showcasing his body's powerful coordination.
Chen Chuan reached out and blocked his kick once again.
Su Wei finally landed and, without hesitation, launched a vigorous attack towards Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan, however, remained stationary and chose not to initiate an attack. With just one hand, he effortlessly countered Su Wei's aggressive moves.
The more Su Wei fought, the more amazed and intimidated he became. To achieve such a level of skill, Chen Chuan must possess superior speed and strength, far surpassing his own, to appear so composed against his onslaught.
After attempting dozens of moves, Su Wei realized the futility of his efforts. He retreated and said, "Captain, this is the best I can do unarmed. I need to use a weapon."
Chen Chuan nodded and replied, "Go ahead, Fighter Su. Feel free to use it."
Su Wei drew a dagger from his waist, although his specialty weapon was actually a pair of short spears. Without a weapon permit, he couldn't carry such conspicuous weapons in public, so he didn't have them with him today. But a dagger would do.
After a quick adjustment, Su Wei took a powerful step forward and thrust the dagger.
Chen Chuan didn't let the dagger reach him. This time, he used both hands to intercept and block the dagger. Instead of purely defending, he emitted a force that precisely blocked the dagger and simultaneously rebounded into Su Wei's body.
Su Wei's offense was severely limited by this rebounding force, making it impossible to connect his moves and thus posing a very limited threat.
Realizing the futility of a head-on confrontation, Su Wei abruptly changed his style. His attacks became more deceptive, employing feints that concealed lethal intent. However, none of these moves proved effective.
Although Chen Chuan didn't intentionally use his psychic power, his aura naturally emanated outwards, allowing him to clearly sense the fluctuations in the field. Thus, no matter how Su Wei executed his feints, Chen Chuan could see right through them, and none of his attempts succeeded.
Despite this predicament, Su Wei didn't give up. Suddenly, he leaped backward and stomped his foot, causing a crack to extend towards where Chen Chuan was standing. The floor beneath them also started to collapse.
Chen Chuan jumped back, but as he was still in mid-air, Su Wei threw the dagger towards him and, using the momentum from his previous stomp, leaped up, flipped in mid-air, and threw another dagger he hadn't used before. Surprisingly, this second dagger reached Chen Chuan before the first one.
Chen Chuan noticed the second dagger's incredible speed and penetrating power. Although he could withstand the attack, he didn't need to since this was just a sparring session. So, he turned his body sideways, evading the dagger.
However, just as he made this move, the first dagger that had landed behind him suddenly accelerated forward!
Chen Chuan immediately understood what was happening—the two-stage power had been applied to the dagger, creating a combination of real and fake attacks from different angles. But that wasn't all. The figure behind Su Wei flashed, and Su Wei himself seemed to be charging forward with the dagger, kicking towards Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan hadn't landed yet. He calmly watched the dagger slowly approach, and it seemed that in the next moment, the weapon would pierce his forehead.
Su Wei was startled and quickly raised his foot, which had been about to kick Chen Chuan, to kick the dagger away. With a 'slap,' the dagger was kicked aside, but the sudden exertion caused him to lose balance, and he began to fall.
A hand reached out from above and grabbed his wrist, suspending him in mid-air. Below, a loud rumble echoed as several floors were consecutively smashed, leaving a huge hole beneath.
Su Wei looked up and saw Chen Chuan standing on the balcony railing, gazing down at him. Chen Chuan then gently pulled, lifting Su Wei up.
Using the momentum, Su Wei leaped up and landed beside Chen Chuan. After a moment's thought, he sighed and said, "Captain, my last move was unnecessary. You don't need my help."
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "Fighter Su, it was just an instinctive reaction."
Su Wei now had a general understanding of Chen Chuan's strength. Compared to Qin Qingque and Yuan Qiuyuan, his fundamentals weren't as solid, possibly due to the unique environment of the fusion territory. However, he was extremely experienced in combat. If it came to a life-or-death battle, those two might not be able to suppress him.
After all, he had grown up in the fusion territory, and those who couldn't keep up would have been eliminated long ago.
It's worth mentioning that, aside from his instinctive reaction at the end, Su Wei never attempted to attack Chen Chuan from behind, probably because he knew it would be futile, and perhaps due to his personality.
But this stubbornness was likely reserved for teammates, and he wouldn't be so pedantic when facing enemies.
Now, Su Wei understood his teammate better. He was someone with self-adherence but also knew when to be flexible.
Chen Chuan looked beyond the balcony towards the distant city and said, "Fighter Su, there will be some situations in Central City soon. We may be called upon for a task at any time, and I'll need your cooperation and assistance."
After such a long time of inactivity, Su Wei felt insecure. Hearing the order, he finally felt reassured. He raised his hand and, with a slightly stiff gesture, saluted and said solemnly, "Yes, Captain!"
