Chapter 522: Subduing the Rosier Family
Chapter 522: Subduing the Rosier Family (Combined 4000 Words)
Ivan looked at Old Rosier with a playful expression, fully aware of his intentions.
The so-called obsession with powerful Magic was nothing but an excuse. The true purpose was likely to test his own strength. Clearly, Dawgert had exaggerated, and Old Rosier was skeptical.
Although Ivan understood this, he did not move his wand, and his gaze towards Old Rosier grew increasingly unfriendly.
"Lord Hals, I know my request is rather abrupt, so to apologize, I am willing to offer a token of my sincerity!" Old Rosier maintained his humble demeanor, glancing at the House-Elf beside him.
At his signal, the House-Elf brought out a heavy bag and slowly approached Ivan. The bag jingled with the sound of metal clinking together, clearly filled with Galleons.
Old Rosier's face was full of regret, but his eyes were fixed on Ivan, observing his every move.
He had asked Ivan to demonstrate his Magic to see the young witches and wizards' true strength for himself. After all, he wasn't a fool to be swayed by Dawgert's words alone.
Moreover, Old Rosier had been keeping an eye on Dawgert and his group's activities over the past few months. He suspected their goal was not merely to control the Wizarding Market but to have a larger agenda!
Once their plan to overhaul Knockturn Alley succeeded, the Ministry of Magic would not sit idly by. Therefore, confirming Ivan's strength was crucial.
If Dawgert hadn't lied and Ivan's power was indeed on par with a Dark Lord, the Wizarding World would certainly undergo a major reshuffle. As one of the first to join his ranks, the Rosier Family could benefit greatly.
If Ivan wasn't as powerful as Dawgert claimed and was just a talented young witch or wizard, he would not be interested. Losing some assets in the Wizarding Market would be better than risking his life and fortune in the future!
Of course, this test was not without risk; it could anger the young witch or wizard.
That was why he had lowered his pride and approached with humility, offering an apology and a bribe. With the information in his mind, he was more than 70% certain Ivan wouldn't kill him!
If he was unlucky and faced the remaining 30% chance, he would have to flee!
Old Rosier was confident in his Apparition skills, which he could use even in extreme situations.
Additionally, he had prepared a backup plan. While adhering to the rules and coming alone to show sincerity, he had brought a House-Elf!
In the general Wizarding view, House-Elves were merely slaves and didn't count as additional people, thus not arousing suspicion. This was a loophole he had exploited.
In a crisis, the House-Elf could buy him time to cast a spell.
Old Rosier had calculated everything meticulously and felt proud of his plan.
However, things would not go as he expected. As the House-Elf approached with the money bag, Ivan's cold voice suddenly cut through the air.
"Mr. Rochelle, I think you might have forgotten one thing: not everything can be measured by money. However, if you want to see, I can satisfy your curiosity."
Ivan's expression turned cold, wondering if Old Rosier had lost his mind or if the Pureblood mentality truly believed money could solve everything.
Had he the nerve to test Voldemort? To offer money for the Dark Lord to cast a spell for him?
He would have his head removed!
From this, Ivan was certain Old Rosier had never met Voldemort, otherwise, he wouldn't have said such a foolish thing.
Ivan wasn't that cruel and didn't care about using high-intensity Magic to intimidate, but he understood the importance of maintaining control rather than following the other's demands.
As he spoke, Ivan quietly activated the enhanced Runic Inscriptions in his wand, then sharply waved it through the air with his right hand.
An invisible Magic Blade, like a broad scimitar, extended forward.
Ivan didn't need to speak the incantation; years of practice had elevated Sectumsempra to the sixth level, and non-verbal spellcasting was effortless for him.
Rip
With a slight sound,
not far ahead, the bag that the House-Elf had been holding was sliced open by something, causing the Galleons inside to scatter in all directions. Some of the gold coins were visibly cut in half.
Before these heavy Galleons could hit the ground, the Magic Blades had already traversed several meters and reached Old Rosier's body.
As soon as Ivan spoke those words, Old Rosier's expression changed. He realized he had made a mistake and immediately tried to Apparate away.
However, he clearly overestimated his ability to escape. By the time Old Rosier raised his wand, the Magic Blades had already passed by his side, causing a sharp pain in his abdomen, as if he had been pricked by needles.
"Apparition!" Old Rosier shouted, waving his wand recklessly and reciting the Spell as quickly as possible.
But nothing happened. Old Rosier remained standing in place, with the sound of Galleons clattering to the ground echoing in his ears.
He numbly looked down and was horrified to find that his wand had been cut in two at some point, the cut smooth and polished as if it had been sliced by a sharp blade and finely polished.
Crack
At that moment, a grating cutting sound came from behind him. Old Rosier instinctively turned his head to see a large patch of tall shrubs being sliced off, and a nearby thick tree swaying and falling to the ground, causing a cloud of dust.
In the area he could see, roughly in a fan shape, all objects were surprisingly at the same height, flat and terrifyingly uniform.
Old Rosier swallowed hard. He understood that Ivan had not missed his target but had deliberately let him off. If the attack had been aimed at him, he would have been cut in half like that tree before he could react.
What terrified Old Rosier even more was that this attack was invisible and intangible, with strong penetration and a wide range. He was certain that even if he had prepared defensive measures in advance, they would have been instantly penetrated, leaving him no way to defend himself!
With just this one strike, Old Rosier confirmed that what Dawgert had said was true. He had never seen a Dark Lord cast a spell, but he imagined it would not be much different.
With this thought, Old Rosier decided to admit defeat. Ivan not killing him immediately meant there was still a chance to negotiate, the question was just how much he would have to pay.
But when he turned around, he saw the House-Elf he had brought boldly attacking Ivan.
"Stop! You fool!" Old Rosier's eyes widened in horror, and he let out a heart-wrenching cry.
His wand had just been cut in half by Ivan, which meant he had completely lost his ability to resist. If the House-Elf accidentally injured the young witches and wizards in front of him, he would be dead for sure! There would be no possibility of escape.
But Old Rosier was a step too late. The House-Elf had already extended its hand, and a blinding beam of light shot out from its fingers, heading straight for Ivan.
Ivan's expression remained unchanged. He instantly activated the protective ring on his right hand, and without any visible movement, the Spell Beam was deflected back, hitting the House-Elf and sending it flying.
Before Ivan could continue to punish the House-Elf, Old Rosier lunged forward, grabbing the House-Elf by the neck with both hands, and raged maniacally.
"You despicable scum, who gave you the nerve to attack Lord Hals?!"
Old Rosier's face was twisted in a grotesque manner. He held back no strength, trying to strangle the House-Elf to death to appease Ivan's anger.
Without his wand, he could only resort to this most primitive method!
Despite his old age and frailty, Old Rosier still had some strength. The House-Elf, already stunned by the rebounded spell, now had its neck squeezed, its face turning blue and purple, and its eyes, as large as light bulbs, nearly popping out.
Its ugly, wrinkled face was filled with confusion and incomprehension.
The House-Elf clearly did not understand what it had done wrong. It had acted entirely according to Old Rosier's instructions. Before they came, Old Rosier had ordered it to attack the enemy in a crisis to buy time for his escape.
Now, Old Rosier had clearly forgotten his original instructions, or perhaps he simply did not want to think about it, placing all the blame on the House-Elf.
Just as the House-Elf was about to lose consciousness, Ivan's voice rang out again.
"Stop! What a pathetic trick!"
Old Rosier's hands trembled. He did not dare to disobey Ivan's command and released the unconscious House-Elf. Then, without daring to stand, he crawled to Ivan's feet and pleaded.
"Lord Hals, please give me one more chance. I am willing to pay any price to gain your forgiveness."
"Enough with the nonsense. Where is the information I want?" Ivan interrupted Old Rosier, knowing that this man was too cunning and hard to control.
If the information turned out to be useless, Old Rosier would have no reason to live.
Old Rosier's body trembled, and he hurried to continue.
"Tomorrow at three in the afternoon, there will be a secret meeting in the Underground Chamber of the Wizarding Market. Everyone will be there, and it has been enchanted with an Anti-Apparition charm. If Sir can secure the entrances and exits, no one will be able to escape!"
"Are you sure?" Ivan raised an eyebrow. If this was true, it would be valuable information.
The ability of Wizards to Apparate was a major headache for him, as it made capturing them extremely difficult. Even if he found their location, they could flee before he could mount an attack.
Forcing his way into the Wizarding Market and taking it over was not impossible, but it would likely cause some damage. Moreover, failing to completely eliminate the members of those Pureblood Families could lead to future trouble.
"What is the purpose of this gathering? Why choose that place?" Ivan asked.
Although Old Rosier seemed genuinely scared and unlikely to lie, Ivan had to be cautious. What if it was a trap?
No matter how small the possibility, he had to be prepared.
"This meeting was proposed by the Nott Family. We have lost too many people in the past few days, far more than we expected. This time, Old Nott wants to gather us all to discuss the next steps.
The location was chosen because the Underground Chamber of the Wizarding Market is very secure, with multiple layers of protection. The Anti-Apparition charm ensures that no one can suddenly barge in."
In response to Ivan's questions, Old Rosier did not dare to hide anything. He spilled everything he knew, trembling as he pulled out a map from his pocket and handed it over.
"This is the map of the Underground Chamber. It was built with the funds from several families, and all the Secret Passages and entrances are marked on it." Old Rosier added.
Ivan took the map and glanced at it. He found that the Underground Chamber was quite large, with a Common Room, meeting rooms, living quarters, and various other areas. It was fortified like a small fortress, which made it a logical choice for the meeting.
Without Old Rosier as an inside informant, capturing everyone there without missing a single person would be nearly impossible.
"Very good, I appreciate your honesty." Ivan put the map away and his gaze softened slightly toward Old Rosier.
Time was his most pressing need. He would soon have to leave Knockturn Alley to meet Nicolas Flamel and could not stay here indefinitely. Old Rosier had given him a perfect opportunity to deal with the Pureblood Families without worrying about future complications.
Hearing Ivan's words, Old Rosier finally breathed a sigh of relief, knowing his life was now safe.
However, Ivan had no intention of letting him off easily. He forced Old Rosier to sign a magic contract to ensure he wouldn't suddenly change his mind or try any tricks.
Ivan believed that only a magic contract could make such a cunning and cowardly individual reliable.
Old Rosier had no choice but to comply. His life was in Ivan's hands, and he had no leverage to negotiate.
After discussing some details and setting the time for the raid, Ivan glanced at the Galleons scattered on the ground.
There were at least five hundred, gleaming gold in the sunlight.
Ivan had not expected Old Rosier to be willing to pay five hundred Galleons just to see him cast a spell. This was indeed "sincere" of him.
Theoretically, he had met Old Rosier's second condition, and the money was now his. However, to maintain his aloof image, Ivan reluctantly decided to leave the Galleons behind.
He couldn't bring himself to pick them up!
