Chapter 521: Sagging Shoulder Star People
Chapter 521: Sagging Shoulder Star People
Suddenly, a strange glow flickered from the distant horizon.
Feng Bu Jue immediately shut off his illumination device and squinted ahead—the narrow, pitch-black tunnel dead-ended in a single, ominous crimson light.
"Is that the exit...?" Feng Bu Jue muttered. "Red light... Feels like a trap."
He slowed his pace, cautiously approaching the cave mouth. Soon, waves of heat slammed into him.
The tunnel sloped downward, placing the safety room below ground level where temperatures were cooler. As he neared the opening, the temperature had already spiked to around 35 degrees Celsius.
"Yikes... If this world’s average is this scorching, things could get complicated", Feng Bu Jue grumbled.
But in truth, it wasn’t complicated at all. As he muttered, a plan already formed in his mind...
The simplest solution? Buy a spare Attire. From now on, switch into it before entering Freedom Explore Mode. Given Feng Bu Jue’s frugal nature, he’d likely cobble together a "Blazing Evil Deity Outfit" for dirt cheap—tank top, shorts, flip-flops—unbothered even at 40 degrees.
Whoosh—
As Feng Bu Jue reached the cave mouth, a blast of hot wind erupted, rolling toward him like a steamer’s lid lifting, forcing him to retreat a step.
"Tch... Definitely a desert", Feng Bu Jue sighed, staring at the endless sea of golden dunes.
Though mentally prepared, the sight still left him disappointed.
He’d rather land in a post-apocalyptic battlefield of Skynet versus humans than this godforsaken wasteland. But once again, reality proved life was 80-90% disappointment.
"Alright, no giving up on hope", Feng Bu Jue said, covering his mouth and nose with his gloves as he stepped from the tunnel into the desert. "Maybe this is some forgotten corner of the DC or Marvel universe..."
That was no idle thought. Those two universes teeming with superheroes were his top choices.
First, he knew them inside-out—their characters’ personalities, powers, weaknesses; upcoming or historic events. Second, their resources were a goldmine. Super-technology, sorcery, mutants, aliens, even cosmic deities... All ripe for exploitation.
Plus personal goals: Bankrupt Batman, tour the Yellow Lantern homeworld, philosophize with Dr. Manhattan, rip off Doctor Doom’s mask, hear Black Bolt sing, turn Tony Stark into a woman...
In short, treasure troves where the stronger the player, the deeper the rewards—endless.
But... experience proved Feng Bu Jue’s hopes were wasted.
The System would never send him to a good place.
——
"Commander, the drones in Sector 3 spotted something unusual."
"Display it on the main screen."
"Understood, sir."
"Hm... That’s... an Earthling?"
"Biometric library match: 84% probability of Earthling, 10% external star race, 6% other shapeshifters."
"Hmph... Doesn’t matter. Capture it first."
"Understood."
"First Squad, unidentified intruder 50 kilometers west of the base—move to contain immediately."
——
Feng Bu Jue, meanwhile, had no clue he’d been marked. He sprinted across the dunes—the newly discovered Tavrin Step’s "water-running" special effect worked just as well on sand, making desert travel effortless.
"Regardless of circumstances, the first safety room wouldn’t dump me in a barren wasteland days from civilization", Feng Bu Jue thought, running. "Otherwise, I’d leave the scenario before finding the next safety room due to game time limits." He licked his parched lips. "Running straight in one direction, I’ll encounter something. If not an oasis, at least a camp."
Within ten minutes, sweat soaked his clothes. High temperatures drained his stamina rapidly. Players didn’t need to eat or sleep in scenarios, but fatigue and discomfort still consumed vitality. Zero stamina meant risking vitality loss. The environment itself was an enemy.
"This sun’s suspicious too", Feng Bu Jue glanced upward. "Different color from Earth’s—no telling UV intensity. If this isn’t Earth, celestial patterns might vary. Maybe their sun stays up 50 hours; or nights hotter than days; or that red orb’s actually a moon and we’re in the 'night' right now..."
As usual, his mind spiraled into endless speculation.
Normally, scenarios restricted exploration due to tasks, time limits, and map constraints. But in Freedom Explore Mode, exploration was the goal. Players could abandon traditional leveling-and-looting patterns for infinite possibilities—like running for president, granted they periodically left the world.
Kakaka...
Suddenly, from a dune ahead, clanking footsteps echoed—like a massive beast.
Feng Bu Jue turned, spotting several metallic heads cresting the dune.
"Robots?" His first thought was Transformers. But seconds later, he noticed the cockpits—transparent, belly-mounted. Humans weren’t inside; drivers occupied them.
In broad daylight, Feng Bu Jue’s sharp eyes caught details. The drivers’ bodies resembled humans, but their shoulders jutted grotesquely high, nearly reaching their temples. Their armpits aligned with their necks.
Clad in green police uniforms and helmets, Feng Bu Jue could only discern their skeletal oddity from afar. Up close, surely more differences.
"Hm... Their machines have those M-shaped sloped shoulders too", Feng Bu Jue halted, waiting.
"Earthling, cross your arms over your chest! Don’t move!" A driver’s amplified voice boomed from the mech, clear even ten meters away.
"A genuine alien..." Feng Bu Jue obeyed, muttering, "Wait—aren’t I the alien from their perspective?" He studied them, mind racing: technological level, culture, society, reproduction...
"Base, this is First Squad. Target understands our language and shows no resistance", the leading mech’s driver, Jie Jie Jie Jie, reported. "Request permission to initiate Capture Protocol Three, over."
A brief silence.
"Approved. Exercise caution, Jie Jie Jie Jie, over."
The approval granted, Jie Jie Jie Jie activated the mech’s speaker: "Earthling, you are under arrest. Comply and cease resistance."
Feng Bu Jue stood still. Eager to cooperate but unsure how.
"What’s protocol here...?" He wondered. "On Earth, soldiers make captives raise hands behind their heads and kneel. But here, crossing arms? Makes sense—their anatomy probably can’t reach their necks." His eyes counted eleven mechs. "Their gestures might invert meaning: bows as insults, nods as mockery, smiles as rage, leg-touching as... wait, leg-touching’s already..."
Kakaka.
Jie Jie Jie Jie’s mech approached. Ten meters tall, its frame mirrored the driver’s hunched silhouette.
"Step onto the robot’s palm."
Feng Bu Jue obeyed. The moment he mounted, the palm morphed into a spherical iron cage.
Jie Jie Jie Jie exhaled, straightening his tone: "I am Sagging Shoulder Star People Army Lieutenant Jie Jie Jie Jie. You are hereby arrested for theft of military secrets."
"Alright, take it as it comes", Feng Bu Jue smirked self-deprecatingly.
