Chapter 520: Lanchi's Unwavering Confidence
Chapter 520: Lanchi's Unwavering Confidence
The morning sky over Ikelite was tinged with a faint azure hue, and on this summer daybreak, the air throughout the city was especially crisp and fresh. The scent of oatmeal and cheese still lingered on the ground floor of the Cat Boss Restaurant.
It was evident that the three new employees had just finished their breakfast and were enjoying a relaxed chat. However, this customary tranquility was abruptly shattered by the arrival of a visitor.
"You...!"
Talia's pupils contracted, her mouth hung slightly agape, unable to form a complete sentence. Yet, her expression conveyed it all—a mixture of astonishment and bewilderment, as if her brain had momentarily ceased to function.
Her body leaned back slightly, an instinctive reaction to retreat from the source of her shock. Her fingers curled into fists, and she began tugging unconsciously at her clothes—a self-comforting gesture in the face of extreme emotional turmoil. Her shoulders tensed, poised for defense.
In that moment, Talia made over a dozen feints.
How embarrassing! She had never experienced such a situation in her life!
The surroundings lost their significance as all her focus and emotions zeroed in on the present, her world temporarily narrowing down to the focal point before her, rendering everything else blurry and secondary.
In the restaurant stood three employees, their faces unfamiliar to her, yet the familiar auras and magical fluctuations they exuded instantly gave away their identities.
The woman sitting at the bar exuded an air of tranquility as she gently caressed her chest. Her eyes were closed, and she was dressed in a black, long skirt, reminiscent of a noble lady of high social standing. She was Sinora.
The casual, playful short-haired woman, clad in a leather vest, tight leather pants, and tall boots, could only be Anthanas.
And the man, looking reserved and solemn in his dark brown waistcoat, standing behind the dimly lit bar, was undoubtedly Pranai.
Despite the innate chill in their gazes, they, too, were stunned upon laying eyes on Talia.
They stared at each other, locked in a mutual gaze for several seconds.
Finally—
"Talia, it was Lanchi who brought us out of the Protoss Empire," Anthanas blurted out as she rushed to embrace the dazed Talia.
"Ah... Ah..."
Talia allowed Anthanas to shake her, but her mind remained blank, unable to snap out of her stupor.
She felt like her brain had stopped functioning.
Had someone cast the 'Falling into a Gentle Dream' illusion on her?
How could she have opened the door to find Anthanas, Sinora, and Pranai?
Impossible!
Lanchi had only been on the Northern Continent for half a year. How could he have possibly located these three great demons in the Protoss Empire, and more so, how did he "bring" them back?!
Talia finally shook her head vigorously, pinching Anthanas' face.
"Ow, that hurts!" Anthanas exclaimed, her eyes closed.
"Not a dream..." Talia murmured.
"Talia, you've changed! Who taught you to pinch people to discern dreams?" Anthanas' cheeks flushed, but her eyes shone with joyful tears as she complained.
Not far from the restaurant entrance—
"Meow, Lanchi has finally done something good," Cat Boss remarked, perched on Hyperion's head, as he witnessed the heartwarming reunion. He wiped away a tear, moved by the sight of the usually icy-cold Talia being flustered.
"Indeed..."
At some point, the Great Lover Poet had also appeared by Hyperion and Cat Boss' side, nodding in agreement, his voice sounding as if he were gritting his teeth.
The Great Lover Poet had returned to Ikelite earlier, along with the three great demons, so it was only natural for him to be present in the shop.
"..."
Hyperion felt a chill run down her spine, unsure why.
In her impression—
Ever since the Great Lover Poet returned from Helrom Prison, she had become less talkative. When Lanchi asked her to work, she would do so silently, and when he spoke to her, she would only respond with a smile.
Lanchi had remarked that perhaps this was a sign of growth, and he felt relieved about it.
But Hyperion alone found this changed Great Lover Poet unsettling.
The way she looked at Lanchi now, it was as if she had found her prey, and that smile on her lips—it was a perfect, yet utterly fake smile!
Hyperion couldn't shake off the sense of foreboding.
The restaurant's bar sat on one side.
"Talia..."
Unlike Anthanas' carefree personality, Sinora seemed to still be reeling from the shock. She couldn't imagine that when Talia walked through the door, she appeared to have completely transformed into a foodie seamlessly integrated into human society.
Was this really the Talia she knew?
Sinora turned to her brother.
However.
Pranai had already skillfully started polishing the glass cups, pretending that nothing had happened.
He had top-notch survival instincts.
"..."
Talia's eyes reflected the siblings' reactions, and her cheeks flushed red.
If they had scoffed at her, Talia would have considered it an acceptable punishment.
But.
Their evasive attitudes only made Talia feel more mortified and uncomfortable. Now, her embarrassment had made them feel awkward too!
"Come with me."
Talia grabbed Anthanas by the shoulder, slowly pushed her aside, and turned to Lanchi, her voice unreadable.
But every word was laced with a tremor.
"Tata."
Lanchi still wore a natural smile, his thoughts seemingly pure and simple.
However, he stopped mid-sentence.
At that moment, he could only think; his body felt as if it were pinned down by a mountain, unable to move.
Talia stood by his side, controlling his body with her mental magic.
Talia's golden eyes, sharp as a hawk's, fixed on him, unconcerned by his weakness, helplessness, and desperation. She merely asked him—whether he would walk on his own or let her help him.
She soon turned and headed towards the stairs.
"I need to have a private chat with Tata..."
Lanchi's heart suddenly began to race as he politely greeted the three great demons, leaving the confused demons and the suddenly quiet first floor of the Cat Boss Restaurant. He followed Talia up the creaking wooden stairs to the second floor.
They walked to the very end of the hallway, where Talia took out a key from her pocket and opened the door to her family's room.
"Go in."
Talia said through gritted teeth.
Lanchi didn't hesitate and was pushed into the room by Talia.
"Tata, you..."
He stumbled a couple of steps before steadying himself, scanning the familiar little room with its walls painted in soft shades of cream, light orange, and beige, exuding warmth and brightness, and the wooden furniture carefully polished by Cat Boss during the restaurant's construction, showcasing their natural beauty.
But at that moment, the two people in the closed room had hearts that were anything but calm.
"You!"
Talia grabbed Lanchi by his tie, her eyes reflecting a mix of anger, determination, and emotion.
In that moment of unexpected embarrassment, she had even harbored thoughts of taking Lanchi down with her.
But the appearance of the three great demons had left her with only gratitude and a loss for words towards Lanchi.
"What exactly did you do in the Northern Continent?"
Talia's mind was in turmoil.
She couldn't read Lanchi's thoughts.
She didn't know if he was genuinely trying to help her or if he was doing it to mock her.
But that didn't matter right now. All she wanted was to understand what Lanchi had done during his time in the Northern Continent.
How had he managed to bring back three great demons from his trip to the Northern Continent?
The scariest thing in the world is when acquaintances spend a long time with another group of acquaintances, laughing and sharing your embarrassing stories, all without your knowledge!
"It started with the political situation in the Protoss Empire; it's a complicated issue. Take a deep breath and let me explain it slowly to you."
Lanchi raised his hands, signaling Talia to calm down and take a breath. Her emotions were too unstable at the moment, and he didn't want to imagine what would happen if the Great Lover Poet accidentally pushed her further.
His heart was beating a little faster, but he remained steady and in control.
Fortunately, Talia didn't know that when he was in the Protoss Empire, the great demons had almost mistaken him for her husband; otherwise, it would have been even harder to explain.
"You... in the Protoss Empire... my husband?"
Talia's voice trembled as she spoke.
Lanchi: "???"
When did this guy learn how to read minds?!
And why are you only reading half of it?!
