Chapter 520: Ivan: What a Surprise!
Chapter 520: Ivan: What a Surprise! (Combined)
Ivan was worried that after he explained everything, they might imagine him in another strange way.
Thinking about this, Ivan looked at the two of them and said helplessly, "Why didn't you consult me before doing all this?"
"At that time, you were about to return to Hogwarts for your studies. Asia thought it would be better not to disturb you, so we decided to wait until you came back to give you a surprise!" Dawgert said with a smile.
"A surprise?!" Ivan's lips twitched. To him, it felt more like a shock!
"What's wrong?" Asia noticed that Ivan's expression seemed off and couldn't help but ask.
"Nothing, it's just a bit of a surprise that you prepared..." Ivan forced a smile, then, seeing the expectant looks on Asia and Dawgert's faces, continued insincerely, "It's really great!"
"We could only help you with this small thing", Asia smiled, then continued, telling Ivan that she had originally planned to tidy up Knockturn Alley before he returned, but the resistance from the Wizarding Market was much stronger than she had anticipated.
So if I had returned any later, you would have already finished?
Ivan was speechless. After getting more details from Asia, he felt exhausted and said that he had experienced too much today and wanted to go back and be alone for a while.
"Then rest well!" Asia noticed Ivan's tired face and couldn't help but feel a bit concerned. She comforted him, "Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're still young, and we have plenty of time to sort things out!"
Ivan opened his mouth to say something but ultimately said nothing, feeling a headache as he left the meeting hall and returned to his room in the Magic Shop.
Once he closed the door, Ivan's expression darkened. He suddenly remembered something and instinctively opened the System's task bar to check.
【Task: Become the King of Diagon Alley
Mission Objective: Unify Knockturn Alley (Second Ring)
Mission Progress: 71%
Mission Reward: Fidelius Charm
Mission Description:】
"71%?" Ivan looked at the progress bar and couldn't help but exclaim.
Why did it suddenly increase so much?
If he remembered correctly, when he checked at Black Manor at noon, the Mission Progress was only at 45%.
Was it because of the intimidation and speech?
Or was it because he had dealt with the Aurors and seven Dark Wizards sent to assassinate Walker, even managing to recruit four of them, tipping the scales in their favor?
Ivan thought it was probably a combination of both. Eight well-trained Wizards, each a significant force in Knockturn Alley, could certainly change the outcome of a battle!
Not to mention, the Nott Family had lost a key member—Res Nott!
Thinking about this, Ivan couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated.
It wasn't because of the killing. Ivan was very clear that since both sides were already enemies and the conflict had escalated to an irreconcilable point, he couldn't afford to show mercy, regardless of the cause.
After all, imprisoning an Animagus was too costly, and Res Nott refused to surrender, so death was his only fate.
What truly frustrated Ivan was that he had initially thought the Nott Family was deliberately retaliating, and Asia had been forced to organize a counterattack. He had repeatedly questioned Res Nott about the details in the meeting hall, which now seemed incredibly awkward.
And no one in the room had even bothered to correct him.
Or had they imagined something even more serious?
"No, I need to sort this out from the beginning", Ivan quickly dismissed his various thoughts. He recalled the information he had gathered from Asia and Dawgert and slowly pieced everything together.
Initially, his cautious move to leave a backdoor in the magical items he sold to the Ministry of Magic had led Bogrod to misinterpret his intentions, thinking Ivan was ambitious and wanted to eliminate the Aurors to rule the entire British Wizarding World.
And when Asia learned of Bogrod's misconceptions, she had thought Ivan was not cautious enough, allowing Bogrod to uncover such a secret plan.
This was likely the reason for Bogrod's death—he knew too much!
"I should have killed Bogrod when I had the chance!" Ivan shook his head in regret. If he hadn't stopped Asia in Borgin and Burkes, Bogrod would have been dead, and none of this mess would have happened.
However, Ivan had to admit that Bogrod was indeed a cunning old fox. The plan he had concocted did have a real possibility of being put into action.
If he could unify Knockturn Alley and gather hundreds of Wizards, relying on the secret passage left in the protective ring and the anti-curse gloves, taking over the Ministry of Magic wouldn't be a problem!
But the key question was, what would they do after overthrowing the Ministry of Magic? The Wizards of Britain would never recognize their rule!
Not to mention Dumbledore was still around!
This most powerful White Wizard on the order side was no ordinary opponent, especially with the Elder Wand in his possession. He could take on all of them single-handedly.
Wait, Dumbledore?!
Ivan suddenly remembered something. The old professor had been struck by Voldemort's Horcrux and didn't have much time left to live.
So, the biggest obstacle didn't really exist. Could he become the Minister of Magic?!
Ivan gasped, tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. Anxiety, frustration, confusion, and a myriad of other emotions flooded his mind.
He was just a third-year young witch or wizard. How did he suddenly have to rule the British Wizarding World?
The next morning, Ivan got up, washed up, and, still half-asleep, stumbled downstairs to prepare for breakfast.
He had spent the entire night agonizing over the decision, but in the end, he realized he wasn't cut out to be the Minister of Magic.
He preferred the leisurely pursuit of Magic, rather than sitting in an office all day dealing with mountains of paperwork and political intrigue.
He couldn't just install a puppet Minister of Magic after taking over the Ministry, could he?
Thinking about it, Ivan couldn't help but laugh.
The idea of ruling the Wizarding World was just a fantasy concocted by others. The whole situation was uncertain, and he was worrying about whether he should be the Minister of Magic, which was just causing himself unnecessary trouble.
"Sir! Please come this way!"
As Ivan descended the stairs into the hall, he heard Dobby's voice.
He looked up to see the House-Elf pulling out a chair at the dining table with great enthusiasm. Asia and Dawgert were already seated, waiting for him.
"Didn't you sleep well last night?" Asia noticed Ivan seemed a bit sleepy and asked with concern.
"Uh, I was thinking about some things and went to bed a bit later", Ivan yawned, walking over and sitting down in the chair Dobby had pulled out for him.
Dobby promptly brought a hearty breakfast to Ivan's place at the table and then bustled about, wiping down surfaces with a cloth, full of energy as he prepared to clean the entire house.
Ivan glanced at him, understanding that Dobby wanted to impress Asia. He smiled and asked, "Mom, what do you think of Dobby? Is he doing a good job?"
"Of course, I'm very satisfied", Asia praised without hesitation, though she was still not entirely used to this lifestyle.
This morning, when she had tried to get up and make breakfast, Dobby had insisted on doing it for her.
The House-Elf refused to let her do any chores and even got so worked up that he threatened to bash his head against the wall if she didn't stop him.
With her knowledge of House-elves, Asia understood this was Dobby's way of showing his dedication, so she let him do as he pleased.
Hearing Asia's praise, Dobby became even more diligent, cleaning the entire hall until it was spotless. He then eagerly moved on to clean the other rooms.
"Having a House-Elf means you Hals are now a Wizarding family with some real standing", Dawgert said with a mix of teasing and envy after Dobby left the hall.
While House-elves were seen as very lowly in the eyes of Wizards, practically no different from slaves, they were incredibly loyal, skilled in all household tasks, and their Magic level was not inferior to that of an adult Wizard. They were invaluable helpers.
Typically, only powerful Pureblood Families could afford to have a House-elf as a servant.
"I and Dobby have a relationship of employment. If he ever wants true freedom, I won't force him to stay. Moreover, a family's standing should be judged by the knowledge and traditions they possess, not by whether they have a House-elf!" Ivan shook his head, disagreeing with the notion.
This kind of life, where everything is done for you, is too decadent!
It can easily erode one's will to strive.
No wonder Malfoy is so arrogant and spoiled; it's probably because he's been coddled all his life.
Ivan sighed inwardly, picked up the spoon, and took a sip of the porridge Dobby had served, then ate a few slices of sausage and grilled tomatoes.
Dawgert pursed his lips. While what Ivan said was true, he still wanted a House-Elf. Who wouldn't prefer to be taken care of rather than handle all the trivial matters themselves?
Dawgert didn't argue with Ivan. His expression turned more serious as he shifted to a more pressing topic. "By the way, I forgot to ask you yesterday, Ivan, do you hate Pureblood Wizards?"
"No!" Ivan shook his head and continued, "I don't think there's any difference between Purebloods, Half-bloods, and Wizards from Muggle families!"
He certainly didn't blindly oppose Purebloods, nor did he share Voldemort's radical belief that certain Wizards who didn't meet his standards should be eradicated.
From what Ivan understood, some Pureblood Families were no different from ordinary Wizards, earning their living through their skills and abilities.
For example, the Lovegood family, where Luna belonged, made a living by running a newspaper, and even struggled financially due to low sales.
"That's good!" Dawgert breathed a sigh of relief. He understood what Ivan meant: Ivan opposed privilege, not Purebloods.
This meant that some Pureblood Families could still be potential allies rather than enemies.
"Headmaster Dawgert, why are you asking this?"
Having witnessed Bogrod's imagination, Ivan had learned a valuable lesson: it was best to clarify anything that could be clarified to avoid being misled.
"I should have mentioned this before. The Wizarding Market is controlled by six Pureblood Families, and while the Nott Family is the most powerful, they are just one of them", Dawgert explained. He wanted to persuade a spokesperson of one of these Pureblood Families to act as an informant, which would make their attack on the Wizarding Market much smoother.
"Are you sure it will work?" Ivan furrowed his brow.
"Of course! You don't understand those Purebloods. To put it bluntly, they are no different from fence-sitters! They were willing to fight to the death when they had the numbers, but things are different now!" Dawgert said with a cold laugh.
"Which family do you plan to approach for persuasion?" Ivan asked.
"The Rosier Family! I've had contact with their Head of the Family before, trying to convince him to defect to our side. Although that attempt failed, Old Rosier hesitated before declining. If he realizes he has no chance of winning, he will surrender faster than anyone else!" Dawgert explained.
So there are traitors like that? Ivan gave Dawgert a surprised look and continued after receiving his confirmation.
"How long do you think it will take to persuade him, and what are your chances?"
"I have an 80% chance, and at most, it will take two days before you can meet him", Dawgert said confidently. The Wizarding Market had just lost nine Wizards, and the balance of power was now completely skewed. He was confident he could persuade the other side.
"Alright! I'll meet with him!" Ivan nodded in agreement. It would be better to occupy the Wizarding Market with minimal casualties.
Having an informant might even allow them to capture all their enemies, avoiding any stragglers who could come back to harass them later.
With Ivan's approval, Dawgert seemed very pleased. He hurriedly finished his breakfast and left the Magic Shop.
Ivan cherished the time he spent with Asia, spending the entire morning just chatting with her.
In the afternoon, Ivan remembered he needed to arrange Elph-Grindt's funeral. He had Dobby prepare the necessary items and used a Communication Magic Item to gather everyone again.
Ivan stood by the door, waiting as the space in front of him distorted, and figures began to appear.
When the last person arrived, Ivan checked the time. It had already been ten minutes.
This speed made Ivan frown. It wasn't mealtime or bedtime!
From his understanding, Wizards could use Apparition to teleport instantly, and except in emergencies, everyone should have arrived immediately after his notification!
