Chapter 52: Particle Beam Cannon
Chapter 52: Particle Beam Cannon
There was another, smaller reason as well.
He had just reinforced the Golden Rock hull armor to Level 10, and he hadn't even used it once. If he replaced it now, all the resources he spent on reinforcing it would be wasted.
Once a ship component is removed, all its reinforcement levels reset to zero, and no resources are refunded.
Skimming past the Obsidian hull armor, Song Chi (now: Chi Song) turned his attention to the second light orb.
His eyes lit up, and he was clearly much more excited than when he saw the Obsidian hull armor.
Particle Beam Main Cannon
- Level: 0
- Quality: Blue
- Consumption: 20 per shot (Mystic Energy Points)
- Trait: Main Cannon Power Increase 10%
- Power: 17
- Charging Time: 10 seconds; Cooldown: 20 seconds
- Upgrade Requirements: 3 strands of Zeroth-Tier Floating Land Essence, 300 Mystic Energy Points
Although the Mystic Energy main cannon on the Skyborne had recently been reinforced to Level 10, it was only a colorless quality cannon, two tiers lower than the Particle Beam Cannon. This meant that, in terms of both reinforcement limits and attack power, the Particle Beam Cannon would be far superior.
Moreover, the most crucial point was that this Particle Beam Cannon had a unique trait, making it a top-tier blue-quality component.
Typically, only components of purple quality or higher would have unique traits. However, a small number of blue-quality components also came with traits, and each of these was a top-tier component in its class.
"Dad, does Mom's Dragonfly have a blue main cannon?"
Although Chi Song really wanted the Particle Beam Cannon, his mother's Dragonfly was at a critical stage of advancement. A good main cannon would help the Dragonfly kill more alien races in the exploration of foreign star domains, thus increasing the success rate of its advancement.
Therefore, he had to let his mother choose first. Although he also needed a main cannon, he was still young and had plenty of time ahead.
A hint of relief flashed in Chao Song's eyes, and he smiled.
"Actually, I was planning to have you choose this main cannon and let your mother take the Obsidian hull armor. Now that you've chosen the Particle Beam Cannon, it works out perfectly."
Seeing that Chi Song was still hesitant, Chao Song quickly added:
"Don't worry. Your mother's Dragonfly already has a blue-quality main cannon, which has been reinforced to Level 20 and beyond. I'll handle your mother's advancement mission, so you can focus on the upcoming foreign star domain explorations."
Chi Song nodded, feeling relieved after hearing his father's reassurance. He then absorbed the light orb of the Particle Beam Cannon into the Spark Ancestor Acupoint.
In the Marketplace of All Realms, he summoned the Skyborne and quickly uninstalled the Mystic Energy main cannon, replacing it with the Particle Beam Cannon.
He immediately began reinforcing the Particle Beam Cannon.
Reinforcing a blue-quality component required significantly more resources than a colorless one. To reinforce it to Level 10, Chi Song spent a total of 271 strands of Zeroth-Tier Floating Land Essence.
Particle Beam Main Cannon
- Level: 10
- Quality: Blue
- Consumption: 40 per shot (Mystic Energy Points)
- Trait: Main Cannon Power Increase 15%
- Power: 173
- Charging Time: 3 seconds; Cooldown: 6 seconds
- Upgrade Requirements: 15 strands of First-Tier Floating Land Essence, 2500 Mystic Energy Points
Chi Song stopped here, not because he was unwilling to reinforce it further, but because he only had 12 strands of First-Tier Floating Land Essence left, which was insufficient for further upgrades.
However, compared to the previous dark energy main cannon, the particle beam cannon has far superior attributes.
...
At the Jiangyuan First Flame Academy, in the rear of the academy’s flying ship base, a cruiser named "Glorious" was quietly docked in one of the hangars.
Inside the Glorious, the academy’s chancellor, Third-Rank Flame Captain "Zhu YaoKui," stood on a dark energy cultivation platform that had already been enhanced to level 39. He was calmly practicing his guiding technique.
For a Third-Rank Flame Captain who had advanced to this rank over two hundred years ago and was approaching his five-hundredth year of life, there was nothing more important than persistent cultivation.
On average, the lifespan of a Flame Captain in the Flame Human civilization is as follows:
- A Zero-Rank Flame Captain has a lifespan similar to an ordinary person, around 140 years.
- A First-Rank Flame Captain lives much longer, around 200 years.
- A Second-Rank Flame Captain has an even longer lifespan, up to 300 years.
- At the Third-Rank level, the lifespan doubles from the Second-Rank, reaching a remarkable 600 years.
Six hundred years is indeed a very long time, but for every Third-Rank Flame Captain, it often feels like there’s never enough time.
The enhancement of Flame Ships is quite rapid; with the right resources, they can be quickly upgraded. However, the cultivation of guiding techniques is a different matter, especially after level 30. The cultivation speed becomes incredibly slow, and it often takes several decades or even a century to advance a single level.
Thus, even a veteran cruiser captain like Zhu YaoKui, who has been at the Third-Rank for nearly three hundred years, has only reached level 37 in his guiding technique.
With only a century left until his lifespan ends, if he doesn’t want to turn to dust after a hundred years, he must attempt to advance to the Fourth Rank. The prerequisite for this is to reach level 39 in his guiding technique.
This is why Zhu YaoKui, like the vast majority of Third-Rank Flame Captains, spends most of his free time on the dark energy cultivation platform.
Just then, a shout came from outside the Glorious, interrupting his cultivation. Zhu YaoKui instinctively frowned and was about to rebuke the intruder, but a quick thought revealed it was his son. He promptly exited his cultivation state.
Outside the Glorious, Zhu Kang did not enter the ship; instead, Zhu YaoKui stepped out.
While it might seem undignified, it was unavoidable due to the mechanics of Flame Ships. Once an outsider enters a Flame Ship, regardless of their strength, the ship deducts 10 strands of the corresponding rank of Floating Land Essence based on the ship’s own rank. This effect is temporary and lasts only ten minutes. After ten minutes, the deduction doubles for every additional minute.
For example, if Zhu Kang were to enter the Glorious, the ship would immediately deduct 10 strands of Third-Rank Floating Land Essence. If he stayed for eleven minutes, it would deduct 20 strands, and for twelve minutes, 40 strands, and so on.
Due to this unique restriction, Flame Captains generally do not allow outsiders to enter their ships, especially high-rank captains.
"What is it this time? Can’t your older brother handle it? Why do you have to come to me?"
Zhu YaoKui’s face was stern, and his tone was cold. He had never been optimistic about his son, who tended to bring trouble.
Zhu Kang knew he wasn’t favored by Zhu YaoKui, so he got straight to the point.
"Father, I recently heard news about titanium crystals."
