Chapter 52: Doubt and Testing
Chapter 52: Doubt and Testing
"Flavordus!"
In the kitchen, Jerry secretly took out his wand and cast a transfiguration charm on a freshly poured glass of pure milk, turning it into a cup of sweetened coffee.
According to the rules of transfiguration, although Elsa would be drinking coffee, it would soon turn back into milk once it entered her stomach.
This way, the problem would be perfectly solved.
Sometimes, Jerry thought that even if it weren't for earning Little Red Stars, he could still legally become wealthy and achieve the peak of success with the various magical spells he had learned, even without being a superhero.
For example, this transfiguration charm was a blessing for those trying to lose weight.
By turning those unappetizing coarse grains, boiled vegetables, and other low-calorie foods into delicious, high-calorie burgers, fried chicken, cakes, ice cream, and rich meats, and transforming plain water into various fine wines and sugary drinks, who wouldn't be able to lose weight?
He could start a weight loss company and be guaranteed to make a profit.
Of course, the rebound might be significant, but what did that matter? If they gained the weight back, they could just try to lose it again.
Putting away his wand, Jerry picked up the coffee and walked out of the kitchen with a smile, approaching Elsa, who was sitting on the living room sofa:
"Come, Daryl, it's time to wake up... Ah, spit! I mean, it's time for my little sister to wake up and drink her coffee!"
Elsa took a sip of the coffee and immediately broke into a blissful smile.
Children are like that, or rather, people in general. The more you deny them something, the more they want it. And the easier it is to get, the less they value it over time.
Coffee isn't necessarily better than milk,
but for Elsa, coffee was a rare treat, while milk was something they had plenty of in the fridge and she had to drink every morning. She was already tired of it.
"You're still too young. When you grow up, you'll understand how important it is to drink milk for your health and future body", Jerry shook his head and prepared to read his spellbook for a bit longer.
Recently, he had been studying the Outsmarting Dark Magic book he had brought back from the Room of Requirement. It contained a lot of theories about dark magic, which could significantly enhance the power of dark spells like the shadowblade curse and the inverted bell curse.
At nine o'clock in the evening, the family was sitting on the sofa watching Friends.
However, while Elsa was focused on the TV, Jerry and Hass were not paying much attention to the show.
Jerry had activated his "Brain Booster" and was summarizing some of the key points from the spellbook he had read during the day.
Hass, on the other hand, was still troubled by the voice of the young wizard he had met.
Since the fire incident, he had a nagging feeling that something was off.
It wasn't until he got home that night and finished dealing with everything that he suddenly realized why the young wizard's voice sounded so familiar.
It was almost identical to his son Jerry's voice.
However, before children go through puberty, their voices often sound similar, so this alone wasn't enough to prove anything.
And when he asked Elsa if Jerry had gone out alone in the afternoon, she said he hadn't.
But later, he thought about it more carefully and realized that Elsa's word couldn't always be trusted, especially since she seemed to listen more to her brother Jerry than to him.
Moreover, his son Jerry had indeed been different from other children since he was young, and their heights and builds matched up perfectly. This only added to his suspicions.
In fact, Hass was mainly worried that if Jerry really was that Magic-wielding wizard, going out every night to fight crime was far too dangerous.
Many criminals carry guns, and what if Jerry got hurt?
“Jerry, there's something very important I need to talk to you about!”
In the end, Hass decided it was best to just come out and ask.
“Something very important?”
Jerry emerged from his state of organizing Magic knowledge, paused for a moment, and then reassured his father with a sudden realization:
“Dad, we already know. Don’t feel pressured, both Elsa and I support you!”
“What? What do you know? What pressure am I under, and what are you supporting me for?”
Hass was completely baffled by Jerry’s response.
Jerry looked at Hass with a puzzled expression, his tone curious:
“Dad, didn’t you want to tell Elsa and me that you and Miss Berry are planning to get together?”
Hass was instantly taken aback, his expression turning anxious. The usually brave police officer, who fearlessly fought criminals, now spoke with a stutter:
“No… no, how did you know about me and Belle? Actually, this… this matter.”
Ever since the school bus hijacking incident, Hass had developed a fondness for the brave and beautiful Miss Berry. And because of Jerry, Miss Berry had also started to view Hass differently.
A father who could raise a child as just and righteous as Jerry must be a man of good character.
Moreover, despite being close to forty, Hass maintained a good physique, exuding the charm of a mature man.
Thus, the two of them had gradually grown closer.
However, they hadn’t planned on telling Jerry and Elsa yet, mainly because they were worried the children wouldn’t accept a new member in the family.
As an elementary school teacher, Belle understood children’s psychology quite well.
But now, Jerry had directly told Hass that he and Elsa already knew, leaving Hass completely off guard.
He had completely forgotten about the question he had intended to ask Jerry.
Seeing Hass’s reaction, Jerry had a thought and then patted his father’s shoulder:
“Dad, Elsa and I saw you and Miss Berry having coffee at the café this afternoon when we were buying wizard costumes.
Don’t worry, we both really like Miss Berry and we completely support you two being together!”
With that, Jerry got up and headed to his room.
“It’s nine o'clock. You guys keep talking, I’m going to bed!”
Elsa yawned and also patted Hass’s shoulder:
“Dad, you promised to take Jerry and me to the amusement park. Don’t break your word again, or the next time I see Miss Berry, I’ll tell her about you and Aunt Mary’s kiss last Christmas!”
Hass: “...”
Aunt Mary was a widow in her thirties who lived on the first floor. Hass had dated her for a while, keeping it a secret from Jerry and Elsa.
However, he later discovered that she didn’t seem to like children, so he ended the relationship.
Watching Jerry and Elsa head back to their rooms to sleep, Hass scratched his head and then suddenly laughed:
“Maybe this isn’t so bad!”
But he quickly realized that he hadn’t actually gotten the chance to find out if Jerry was really that young wizard.
Just as Hass was about to get up, he sat back down.
He figured that even if Jerry was the wizard, he probably wouldn’t admit it. It would be better to check Jerry’s room secretly at night.
