Chapter 519: Flame Deity 2
Chapter 519: Flame Deity 2
Draen didn’t hear the incantation Wade whispered, but suddenly, he felt as if an invisible current had passed through his body, causing his nerves to tremble. An unusual sensation crept up his spine.
Time seemed to thicken like honey, flowing at an excruciatingly slow pace. His pupils dilated, and he could see every speck of dust floating and swirling in the light.
He saw a red light suddenly appear at the tip of Wade’s wand.
The red grew brighter, and the beam, after traveling only a few inches, turned a bright yellow.
In the next instant, the beam seemed to turn blue-white.
In another moment, the blue faded, almost disappearing.
The transformation was incredibly swift, yet in his eyes, it seemed to play out in slow motion, as if time itself had been stretched.
Draen slowly blinked, feeling something intangible distort the air, silently licking the ground.
He knew something extremely dangerous was present, but his eyes saw nothing, a sensation that drove him mad.
Fortunately, this moment was brief, not even lasting a blink. Suddenly, the scene ahead changed dramatically.
The towering trees, with their gnarled branches and roots, turned to grayish dust in an instant, swirling in the heat like a suddenly exploding cloud.
The forest’s birds and beasts had long fled due to the trees’ strange transformation, but a bird inadvertently flew past them, its wings frozen in mid-flight as they instantly carbonized, then turned into a scattering of ash within moments.
Even the rocks showed web-like cracks, and the gray-black ground glowed with an eerie fluorescence, quickly turning into scorched slag. Soon, all the abnormalities were covered by the slowly falling ash, as if a snowfall had descended.
The destruction was utterly silent, as if the sounds of the world had been swallowed whole. Everything in sight was obliterated without a chance to struggle.
Draen’s pupils contracted to pinpricks, his Adam’s apple involuntarily bobbing as cold sweat trickled down his forehead, and the muscles in his cheeks twitched violently.
Antoine didn’t see as many details. When Wade cast the spell, he was covertly observing Grindelwald’s expression. Turning his head, he saw a vast fan-shaped area where the giant trees, animals, ordinary trees, and flowers had all vanished from the ground.
Only clouds of ash rose up and then slowly drifted down, as if the sky’s clouds and snow had been plucked away.
Antoine blinked, still not fully comprehending. He looked at the stunned brunette witch and asked, “What happened?”
The witch turned her head stiffly, inch by inch, looking at him, unable to speak for a long moment.
In that instant, everyone fell silent, even Grindelwald, who squinted his eyes and, after a long pause, chuckled softly.
...
When Wade lowered his wand, whether from excessive strain or emotional shock, his arm still trembled slightly. All he could hear was the roaring of blood rushing through his veins.
The spell’s destructive power was incredibly precise, with no flames spreading beyond the fan-shaped area.
The enormous oak tree that had been awakened was on the edge of the area. Two-thirds of its trunk had vanished instantly, leaving only a small segment. The bark had split and fallen off, revealing the blackened and dried trunk and branches, where the moisture had been vaporized.
With a loud crash, the remaining part of the oak tree toppled over.
At this moment, only the enchanted trees outside the fan-shaped area could still move, but they stood as if frozen in place.
These trees twisted their trunks to an extreme degree, their canopies bending away from the destroyed forest. Despite having no facial features, they gave the impression of being utterly stunned.
“Whoosh—”
Suddenly, a gust of wind swept up, rustling the leaves and scattering the thick layer of dust on the ground.
The awakened trees had no independent souls; there was no concept of fear or escape in their minds, only overwhelming anger and the urge to kill.
After a brief pause, these massive beings lunged at the wizards again, some of them almost colliding with the protective barrier.
Compared to their earlier terrifying momentum, these trees now seemed somewhat isolated, with a large gap in their formation.
Wade’s arm was still trembling spasmodically. He hadn’t cast a second spell, but a red light suddenly shot out from his side.
The phoenix spread its wings and darted forward like an arrow, igniting the trees with its mere touch. Flames erupted, and hot waves rose as a giant tree struggled in the fire, yet continued its charge.
The phoenix’s body grew larger, and suddenly, various fiery creatures emerged from it—fire serpents, fire dragons, chimeras, and hippogriffs.
The fierce fire beasts collided with the running trees, sparks flying as their clawed feet tore at the roots. Golden-red flames wrapped around the trunks, causing resin to seep from the cracks.
But the trees seemed impervious to pain, crashing forward through the flames. Even with their trunks charred, they wouldn’t stop as long as their roots remained.
“Boom—”
The lead tree had already collided with the barrier, and the towering, flame-covered tree continued to ram into it. Thick branches pounded against the barrier, producing a series of thunderous crashes.
“Hold on! Hold on!” someone shouted loudly, “They can’t withstand the fierce fire; they’ll be burned to ashes soon. We must hold on!”
“Braun has already destroyed most of the trees. Can’t we handle this small number?”
Fine silver beams connected the barrier to the wizards’ wands. They gripped their wands with both hands, their arms trembling as if the effort was immense, but not a single one of them fled.
The usually stern and silent Magi Puritan Party seemed to have become passionate, and Wade, looking back at the scene, felt a sense of dissonance.
His path was now clear, and the area around him was eerily empty and calm.
Just as Wade was about to do something, Grindelwald stopped him.
“You’ve already handled the most dangerous part. Leave the rest to them,” Grindelwald said with a smile. “How does it feel to wield such power, Wade?”
“I don’t understand,” Wade said, looking at Grindelwald curiously. “You mastered magic of this caliber. Why did you lose to Dumbledore back then?”
Grindelwald’s smile vanished instantly.
