Chapter 518: Me, a Man of Such Gentle Temperament
Chapter 518: Me, a Man of Such Gentle Temperament
The unrestrained Killing Intent surged toward Kuro with full force.
Boom!
He stomped hard, punching a hole through the Deck and lunged at Kuro like a blazing meteor.
The ship’s structural integrity? He clearly didn’t care.
Clang!
His fist, swirling with inky black mist, clashed against Kuro’s Autumn Waterblade crackling with golden lightning.
Crackling!
The Deck beneath their feet splintered and flew apart, the shockwave blasting a gaping hole downward. Kuro’s body lifted with the shockwave, while Wald plummeted.
“Momo·Hundredfold Shotgun!”
From the hole erupted Wald’s furious roar. Countless wood chips and stone fragments suddenly expanded a hundredfold in size, laced with Haki, and rocketed upward like shrapnel.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Kuro swung his blade in a blur, creating afterimages before him, deflecting the projectiles with sparks flying.
“Lion Bite!”
After blocking, Kuro slashed forward, twisting the air in that gaping hole into a wind blade capable of tearing through anything.
“Great Severing Blade!”
A massive nitoryu erupted from the hole, its blade radiating Haki. Wald leapt out of the hole, pushing the nitoryu forward. The wind blade sliced a white mark across his body, shattering the wooden hilt but sending the blade hurtling toward Kuro.
Kuro sidestepped the blade’s direct strike and suddenly sensed movement, slashing sideways just as Wald appeared.
Clang!
Wald’s figure materialized beside him, gripping the blade with his bare hand. Supreme Haki split his palm open, blood spilling.
“Hn!”
Wald’s pupils contracted to pinpricks. With a guttural growl, he yanked the blade toward himself while his other fist, encased in a whirlwind of inky-black Haki, smashed straight toward Kuro’s face.
“Vermilion Bird!”
“Screech!”
A phoenix’s cry echoed. Kuro’s body erupted in a whirlwind of slashes, forming a colossal flaming phoenix. Wald’s fist struck the phoenix’s head, shattering it, but the flames engulfed him. The Autumn Waterblade broke free from Wald’s grip and slashed backward.
Boom!
Wald’s feet kicked off the air, pivoting not a single degree as he charged straight into the phoenix. At hundredfold speed, he seemed to teleport, reappearing at the phoenix’s core. His fists, wreathed in supreme Haki, were already raised.
“Momo·Hundred Punches!!”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
His fists moved like a hundred arms striking at once, obliterating the phoenix’s form before it could reform. Under this relentless barrage, the phoenix collapsed, revealing Kuro within.
Kuro weaved through Wald’s flurry, staggering sideways like a drunkard toward Wald, his blade flashing like thunder.
Wald’s pupils constricted. He didn’t dodge. Instead, he retracted his fist into an elbow strike, slamming it toward Kuro.
“Drunken Gourd Slash!”
Hiss!
The blade, crackling with golden lightning, cleaved through Wald’s waist.
Boom!
Simultaneously, Kuro took the elbow to his shoulder, crashing downward and smashing through the ship’s Deck into a chamber lined with spiked walls.
Boom!
Wald’s figure dropped rapidly, landing on a wall mechanism. He yanked the lever, and the walls rotated, firing spikes in all directions.
“Momo!”
Wald slammed his hand against the wall, roaring, “Hundredfold Spike Barrage!”
The rotating spikes accelerated madly, raining toward Kuro at the center.
“Black Tortoise!”
Kuro swept his blade, summoning a Black Tortoise’s shadow around him. The tortoise shell deflected the spikes with metallic clangs.
“You damn brat!” Wald’s thunderous shout erupted from the side.
He burst into the spike zone, enduring the onslaught as the spikes tore through his Haki defense, piercing his back like a porcupine. Yet he raised his fist, Haki surging around it, eyes locked on Kuro.
“Have you lost your mind?!” Kuro snarled.
“I told you—I’ll kill you!!”
Wald roared, his Haki-wreathed fist crashing down.
Crack!
The tortoise shell shattered. The impact forced Kuro back a step, but his Snake Eyes froze Wald momentarily.
“You old bastard!”
Gritting his teeth, Kuro summoned a howling wind, scattering the spikes. He gripped the Autumn Waterblade with both hands, sliding toward Wald.
“Ultimate Mystic Art!!!”
Hiss!!!
The blade flashed past Wald’s waist, and Kuro circled behind him.
Wald retaliated with an elbow strike to Kuro’s head, sending him flying backward into the steel wall, leaving a human-shaped dent.
Kuro turned, wincing at the throbbing pain on his temple.
Before him, Wald’s waist bled from a gaping wound, crimson spraying. The earlier chest wound now seeped blood too, drenching him in scarlet.
Wald staggered, then steadied himself, clenching his fists. “Guess I’m getting old…”
Kuro tightened his grip on the Autumn Waterblade, baring his teeth. “You think freezing for thirty years leaves you as strong as thirty years ago? Do you think you’re some immortal old geezer?!”
“Stop your nonsense, little brat.” Wald advanced. “You killed my brother—I’ll kill you!”
“Don’t spout nonsense!” Kuro raised his blade, his expression grim. “You keep aiming at my face—already signed your death warrant. Me, a man of such gentle temperament, getting this angry? You think you’ll survive?”
His gentle temperament?
If Klah heard that, he’d laugh.
Mr. Kuro sometimes snapped at Lida, though Lida barely noticed. But for Klah, Kuro’s mood dictated his entire day’s misery—and Sazil’s injuries.
Even Lida agreed: Kuro was a man of peculiar temper.
And don’t get started on his twisted sense of humor. Even the easygoing Fen Ni secretly thought, “The world has suffered under Kuro for far too long.”
A gentle temperament?
That phrase didn’t even know Kuro’s name.
