Chapter 518: Charlie's Assistance
Chapter 518: Charlie's Assistance
A single, mysterious dungbomb flew in from nowhere, and in an instant, the entire Quidditch stadium descended into chaos.
Karkaroff used his wand to conjure water, frantically rinsing his mouth, but to little avail.
The new dungbomb, with its improved design, had a more potent and persistent odor, making it challenging to remove even with cleaning agents, let alone plain water.
Karkaroff was both furious and flustered. Each time he tried to speak, the overpowering stench would make him dizzy, leaving him unable to utter a coherent sentence.
"Oh, what are you saying?" Dumbledore stepped forward, showing solidarity.
Karkaroff kept his mouth shut, struggling to convey his thoughts.
"Yes, you're right, this is indeed outrageous," Dumbledore said, turning to address everyone, "Professor Karkaroff has asked me to inform you all that from now on, bringing dangerous magical items like dungbombs to events is strictly prohibited to prevent them from exploding in crowds."
"Wuu... Wuu..." Karkaroff grunted, his neck stiff with indignation.
He had clearly stated that he wanted to find the student responsible and punish them severely, but in Dumbledore's words, it became a mere light warning.
"Mr. Karkaroff, why don't you try this?" A figure squeezed through the crowd and handed Karkaroff a large bottle.
"It's Scourge Wife's Universal Magical Cleanser, perfect for washing your mouth out," Filch said as he thrust the bottle into Karkaroff's hands.
Wash his mouth with a cleanser?
Karkaroff felt insulted, his body trembling with anger as he glared at Filch.
However, Filch seemed oblivious to Karkaroff's reaction and continued to rave about the cleanser's effectiveness.
"It has a very refreshing scent. I usually spray some in the bathroom, and it works wonders."
Karkaroff's face darkened further. He tossed the bottle aside and picked up his wand, ready to write down his thoughts.
Just then, Dumbledore announced the dismissal.
"Everyone, please exit in an orderly manner, no pushing," he said, his voice loud enough to drown out the sobs behind him.
"Remember to let the guests leave first... Oh, Miller, could you please inform the kitchen? There's a need for a celebration feast after a successful first task."
"Of course, Headmaster," Professor McGonagall nodded. "I'll go right away."
And so, under Karkaroff's disbelieving gaze, all the students, laughing and chattering, made their way towards the exit.
Fred and George Weasley were the quickest, skillfully weaving through the crowd and soon disappearing down the corridor.
"I was going to throw it at him," Fred said, looking back after leaving the stadium. He couldn't help but laugh, "Who knew he'd open his mouth..."
George shrugged, "I think he won't be able to eat anything for a few days."
"Maybe a week..."
The two shared a glance and burst into laughter again.
Meanwhile, the three champions, Kyle, Fengrong, and Krum, were led back to the changing room they had been in earlier.
"You all did well," Ludo Bagman entered, looking somewhat distracted and not particularly cheerful.
"Good, by the way, I have a few words to say.
"The second task will commence at 10 a.m. on February 27th. Until then, you'll have a long period of rest.
"However, we'll leave you with a puzzle to solve. The stones you received contain clues for the second task... Figure it out, and you'll be well-prepared when the competition begins."
"That's all, everyone. You can go back and celebrate now."
...
Kyle left the changing room.
Madame Maxime was waiting outside, and she immediately took Fengrong away as soon as she came out.
A Durmstrang student escorted Viktor to the hospital, where he would need to rest for a while.
Kyle found Cona not far away, and the two walked back across the field, chatting non-stop along the way.
As they entered the castle, someone hurried over to them.
"I can't believe the tasks would be so dangerous," Mrs. Weasley said, her voice trembling, still looking a bit shaken.
"Mom, Kyle handled all the problems perfectly," Charlie Weasley said with a smile. "Don't forget, he's the highest-scoring champion so far, almost a perfect score."
"Yes, you're right..." Mrs. Weasley hugged Kyle, "You did great, I knew you could handle it... But I still think the tasks were a bit too dangerous, especially the dragons... You're all still kids."
Charlie opened his mouth, wanting to tell Mrs. Weasley that Kyle had faced dozens of dragons with Mr. Scamander even before starting his fourth year.
But seeing Mrs. Weasley's shaken state, Charlie decided it was better not to further upset her.
He also hugged Kyle and sighed.
"What a pity, I thought I could be of some help."
"What?" Kyle didn't quite understand his words.
"That Swedish Short-Snout."
Charlie said, "When choosing the dragons, I specifically picked one that you and Mr. Scamander had treated. I thought it would be of some help to you."
Kyle was surprised, "So, the Swedish Short-Snout was your special choice?"
"I just made a suggestion. They originally wanted to pick two Hungarian Horntails," Charlie said, "But it doesn't matter now. From the Short-Snout's performance just now, it seems like it didn't recognize you."
"No, you're wrong," Kyle looked around and lowered his voice, "It helped a lot."
"Oh?" Charlie's eyes lit up.
At that moment, a group of people walked into the Great Hall from outside.
Charlie immediately closed his mouth and didn't continue the topic.
"Congratulations on completing the first task, Kyle."
He patted Kyle's arm and pretended that nothing had happened, saying loudly, "I'll try to make it for the start of the second task... if I can get the day off."
Then he turned to Mrs. Weasley and said, "Mom, I have to go."
"So soon?" Mrs. Weasley frowned, "Can't you stay for a meal? It won't take long."
"I'm afraid not," Charlie said, "The dragons have already started acting up, and their moods are very unstable. We must take them back as soon as possible."
Just then, a roar came from outside the castle.
"Damn, looks like I have to run," Charlie waved to Mrs. Weasley and quickly ran out of the castle.
In the entrance hall, Mrs. Weasley chatted with Kyle for a while, giving him some reminders before turning and heading upstairs.
Having rarely visited Hogwarts, she planned to stop by and see Ginny and Ron before heading home.
