Chapter 517: The Frightening Encounter
Chapter 517: The Frightening Encounter
Despite the chatty nature of the Tailless Colossal Horse, who seemed eager to talk, the three purifiers were just a step away from returning to the real world. But at the most crucial moment, they were forcibly pulled back, their anger building up to the point of overflowing. They were more inclined to strangle the horse alive than engage in conversation.
"We were so close!"
After freeing themselves from their immense disappointment, the feisty female purifier, Mona, let out a furious shout. Ignoring the fact that her arms were still being sucked on by the arm-like tentacles, she forcefully pulled her arms free, waving them around as they dripped with blood. She desperately struggled against the restraints.
The other two purifiers were in a similar situation. Although their bodies had become nearly transparent due to the burning of their souls before the ambush, they still shouted and struggled, attempting to resist the so-called Death Messenger's bindings.
"Oh well, if you don't want to talk, then don't."
Seeing that the purifiers were so uncooperative, the Tailless Colossal Horse couldn't help but feel disappointed. It clicked its tongue and, using its tentacles, dragged the three purifiers towards the Gate of the Dead, all the while chattering incessantly:
"Let me tell you, when that madman from your Purification Bureau ate the Dog God, I was actually there. Man, that scene was beyond bloody. You guys have no idea how insane he was. The Guardian Death Dog he ate was the weakest among the true gods of the Netherworld, but even so, it was still a true god. It was slaughtered and devoured, and the madman started gnawing on its heart, crawling out from inside its belly. He was covered in blood, his clothes completely soaked, not a trace of any other color visible."
After its long-winded speech, the horse paused, now standing on the empty ground that once belonged to the Three-Headed Dog God. It began to stuff the souls of two dead purifiers into its mouth with its tentacles, all the while continuing its excited babble:
"Tsk, tsk. At that time, none of us Death Messengers expected to witness such a thing. We were all stunned.
The Blind Fish in the Acheron River were so scared they jumped into the water with a splash. The Crimson-Eyed Crows flew away without a second glance. The Bone Deer was so frightened it self-destructed on the spot and hasn't recovered yet.
Fortunately, I have a smaller heart than them. I didn't dare get too close from the start. I took a quick peek from a distance and ran off. But I was still scolded by Great Lord and sent here to guard the gate first.
Hmm... Guarding this gate is actually quite boring. Those souls of weaker dead ones can't stop stepping onto the Path of No Return. We can't chat for long before they're gone. But your souls are quite strong, so you should be able to last three to five days.
How about this? You three stay here to keep me company, and I'll wait four days before eating you. What do you think? Are you interested?"
"Get lost! Just go away!"
"Alright, fine. I thought I could have some fun."
Seeing the female purifier glaring at him with no intention of cooperating, the horse couldn't help but sigh in exasperation. It opened its massive mouth filled with grinding teeth and, using its tentacles, tried to stuff the female purifier inside.
"Hey, horse! Wait!"
Just then, a slightly anxious voice called out from a distance. The horse glanced sideways and saw a small, red-clad figure hurrying towards them.
Who are you to tell me to wait? And why is your face so big?
The horse examined the newcomer's soul strength and found it to be only slightly stronger than an average purifier, a far cry from the souls in its mouth. It couldn't help but show disdain, ready to take a bite.
Just then, as the two other Purifiers who were bound by the wristbands recognized the newcomer, they couldn't help but cry out in despair:
"Lyon? How... Were you killed too?"
Oh, so this person's name is... Ah? Lyon? Lyon the God Eater?!
Upon hearing this terrifying name, the Tailless Colossal Horse shuddered, and then, to its horror, it realized that the little man with the bright red glow was indeed the God Eater it had seen from afar! As for why he was glowing red...
It was godly blood that couldn't be wiped off!
"Help! Great Lord, save me!"
After realizing the situation it was in, the Tailless Colossal Horse screamed in terror, then sprang up from the ground, crying for help while stumbling and rushing towards the Gate of the Dead, its gait slightly crooked as it ran.
Lyon, who was rushing towards them, panicked when he saw the horse about to enter the gate.
The power of the Guardian Death Dog required the Gate of the Dead to take effect, and like the Three-Headed Dog God, it could only block entry but had no authority to release those inside.
In simpler terms, if the souls of the three Purifiers hadn't entered the gate yet, Lyon, having 'replaced' the Guardian Death Dog, had the power to keep them out. But whether they could leave once inside was up to them.
"Stop! Don't run!"
At Lyon's angry shout, the Tailless Colossal Horse stumbled, almost falling, but it didn't stop as told; instead, it ran faster.
Only a fool would stop!
The God Eater had disappeared for so many days, and now he suddenly reappeared outside the Gate of the Dead. Most likely, he had digested the Dog God and was hungry again, wanting to return for more food! If they didn't run, they'd become his meal!
There was no other choice...
Lyon watched as the horse's front hooves stepped into the Gate of the Dead, its neck bound by the wrist-like appendages holding the three Purifiers, about to pass through the gate. With a sigh, Lyon braced himself, raised his hands, and forcefully clapped towards the distant gate.
"Close the gate!"
With Lyon's command, the two heavy doors materialized from nothingness, and the Gate of the Dead, separating life from death, slammed shut with a boom, unleashing a thick wave of death energy that swept away the dead on both sides of the gate.
Seeing Lyon forcefully closing the gate to get a taste of him, the fleeing Tailless Colossal Horse was terrified, its soul nearly leaving its body. Ignoring the potential harm, it forced its head through the gate just before it closed...
"Boom!"
The heavy doors fully closed, severing the horse's body at the gate, and its head dropped, leaving only the two wrist-like appendages on its neck. Like a person, it stood up and ran, screaming loudly.
"It's bad! Run! The God Eater is hungry again!"
"..."
What the hell was this thing...
Through the closed gate, Lyon watched the horse's head, bound by two octopus-like appendages, running away on the Path of No Return, his sanity value plummeting. He quickly took out the Slicing Silver Dagger and freed the three Purifiers bound by the wrist-like appendages.
"Lyon? What are you..."
"No time to explain!"
Feeling the surging energy of the dead realm after the forced closure of the Gate of the Dead, and fearing the wrath of the realm's rulers, Lyon grabbed the three bewildered seniors and fled in the direction they had come from.
"Hurry! We must leave now, or it'll be too late!"
