Chapter 516: These Three Challenges Are Quite Relaxing
Chapter 516: These Three Challenges Are Quite Relaxing
After discovering the situation with the Swedish Short-Snout, Kyle immediately abandoned his plan to temporarily hide. He abruptly turned his broom in the air, circled around, and positioned himself above the fire dragon.
A ball of dragon flame came spewing out, but Kyle dodged it just in time.
"Hey, calm down," he said, flying next to the dragon's head to make sure it could see him. "We've met before, remember? I helped heal your wounds, and you insisted we were meddling..."
The Swedish Short-Snout's roar abruptly stopped, and the orange-yellow vertical pupil turned slightly as if assessing Kyle.
Soon after, the second ball of flame in its mouth gradually extinguished, eventually turning into two streams of fire that shot out from its nostrils.
"Looks like you remember me," Kyle said, his tensed body relaxing slightly. Thankfully, he had identified the right dragon.
"How's your injury healing? It's nice to meet again. If you have any scratches or bumps, I can help you with them."
As he spoke, Kyle maneuvered the Firebolt to the left front of the dragon.
He created some distance but not too much, making it appear to the spectators that he was engaged in a thrilling chase with the dragon.
The stands erupted with loud exclamations.
The Short-Snout snorted again and let out a low whine, slowing down as if it found the situation boring and wanted to return to its cliff.
"Don't go back yet!" Kyle quickly said.
The orange-yellow iris turned to look at him.
"Don't get me wrong," Kyle explained. "I just have something else I need your help with. It's a very small matter..."
A hint of impatience flashed on the Short-Snout's face, but instead of returning to its perch, it continued flapping its wings, following Kyle.
"You probably haven't realized it yet..." Kyle continued, "but someone has mixed some foreign objects into your Fire Ash Stones. How about I help you pick them out?"
The Short-Snout glanced at him warily and let out a roar.
A ball of flame grazed the tail of the Firebolt, eliciting tense screams from the spectators.
"Don't worry, I'm not trying to take your treasure," Kyle quickly clarified. "Just a few of them, and I can assure you they are definitely not Fire Ash Stones..."
...
The boy and the dragon continued their conversation as they flew, even venturing beyond the bounds of the pitch before circling back.
However, the spectators were astonished to see the dragon seemingly trip on the castle's spire.
"The distance has widened!"
Fred excitedly shouted from the stands, his panoramic telescope offering a clear view of Kyle speeding toward the cliffs. "The dragon is at least fifty feet away from him! He has a chance to grab those stones!"
"No, it's too dangerous!" Cedric exclaimed anxiously. "Don't forget there's another dragon there, and it's the most dangerous Hungarian Horntail!"
"But Kyle has already gone past!" George said, his eyes glued to the telescope.
He watched as Kyle fearlessly charged toward the cliffs... and then the Horntail stood up, spewing a ball of flame that Kyle deftly avoided.
"Nice move!" George exclaimed involuntarily.
As the Firebolt picked up speed, the spectators' hearts began to pound faster.
Finally, the Firebolt soared past the cliffs... Kyle held onto the broomstick with one hand and swiftly reached down with the other, as if scooping something from the ground.
Then he turned to the other side.
But in that brief moment of pause, the dragon was now just a few feet away from Kyle...
"Run..." In the audience stand, Connor involuntarily stood up, wanting to remind Kyle.
However, her words were drowned out by the deafening screams that followed.
In his hand, three red stones shone brilliantly.
"What a bold idea!" Bagman shouted. "He displayed extraordinary courage... Yes, he did it... Incredible! Our youngest champion has completed all three tasks with the fastest time."
Kyle looked up to see Dumbledore smiling at him, while Karkaroff and Maxime forced smiles, looking somewhat uncomfortable.
As he stepped away from the arena, the surrounding noises grew louder, the buzz of the crowd assaulting his eardrums.
"That was amazing!" Professor McGonagall exclaimed as Kyle dismounted from his Firebolt.
She hurried over to him, saying, "Before the judges give their scores, you need to see Madam Pomfrey. She's right over there..."
Professor McGonagall pointed to the entrance of the second locker room, and Kyle noticed her hand was still trembling slightly.
"You did it, Kyle," Hagrid said hoarsely. "You took on two fire dragons by yourself, and the other two don't even know what the third task is yet..."
"Thank you, Hagrid!" Kyle shouted, interrupting him.
Karkaroff and Maxime stood nearby, their faces now grim.
"Professor," Kyle turned to Professor McGonagall, "can I go see Madam Pomfrey later? I want to watch the rest of the competition."
"I understand, but no..." Professor McGonagall insisted.
"Alright then."
Kyle left the field and spotted Madam Pomfrey standing anxiously at the entrance of the second locker room.
"A Boggart, Bludgers, and fire dragons!" she said with distaste, pulling Kyle into the locker room. It was divided into several small compartments, resembling the school hospital.
Madam Pomfrey carefully examined Kyle's back, grumbling as she did so, "What were they thinking, bringing so many dangerous things into the school? You're lucky, though. Your clothes are torn, but you're not injured... Here, drink this."
She handed him a bottle of blue potion that was emitting smoke.
It was a Calming Draught, used to soothe tense nerves, and it was one of the most popular potions before exams.
However, Kyle felt that he didn't need it. While he wasn't sure about Krum and Fleur, he found the three tasks rather relaxing... He had only used one Summoning Charm from start to finish.
But Madam Pomfrey didn't see it that way. She watched intently as Kyle finished the potion, then quickly left the compartment.
Kyle waited for a while to make sure she was gone before standing up to check on the situation outside.
But before he could reach the door, a group of people rushed in.
"You're the first one to finish, the very first!" Connor exclaimed excitedly. "You were amazing!"
"You're right about that," Fred said, squeezing in from outside. "I bet you'll get the highest score."
"How are the others doing now?" Kyle asked curiously.
"Not so well," Cedric replied. "Krum is having a tough time with the Boggart. He used a spell to harden his skin, barely making it through the first task.
"As for Delacour, she's stuck on the second task platform, trying to destroy all the Bludgers.
"Your Summoning Charm was brilliant, something Delacour didn't even think of."
"Even if she had, it wouldn't have helped."
Fred laughed, "First, she would have needed a Firebolt..."
