Chapter 515: Wrapping Up
Chapter 515: Wrapping Up
Three days later, at the exit of Hamunaptra, thousands of camels and horses were laden with parcels brimming with gold, silver, and jewelry. Standing beside these beasts of burden were over three thousand fully armed descendants of the Pharaoh's Guard.
At this moment, Adbay was bidding farewell to Liam. "Thank you so much, you will truly be the father of our homeland."
Adbay said this because Liam had previously given them a large number of guidebooks from China when he learned they didn't know where to go. He then directed them to establish their base in the southern regions, where British colonizers and the Kingdom of Egypt had weak control. Liam also left a significant portion of the gold, silver, and jewelry as an interest-free long-term loan, urging them to use this wealth to send people to learn knowledge and purchase supplies from the outside world.
These instructions were a great help to Adbay. He ordered a portion of his people to scout the southern region, while the main group came here to transport the treasure Liam had given them.
"May your journey be smooth." Liam waved goodbye to Adbay, who was mounting his horse to leave. According to their previous agreement, once the tribe of Pharaoh's Guard Descendants settled in the south, they would prioritize purchasing various supplies from Liam under equal conditions. To facilitate future trade, Liam gave Adbay a Golden Defense Bracelet with a beacon that would provide Liam with his location, making it easier for Liam to find him next time.
For Liam, who ruled several countries, these gold reserves were not a concern. By lending this gold as an interest-free loan to the Pharaoh's Guard Descendants, Liam and his countries would benefit greatly from this trade, far more than simply moving the gold.
"Ah, how can you be so generous? What was all our hard work for?" As the caravan of camels slowly moved away, Jonathan and his sister Evelyn emerged from behind a statue. Jonathan, still walking, complained with a pained expression.
"But even if you gave us all these valuables, we wouldn't be able to keep them. We might even be killed by the wealth. What I'm giving you now is just enough to help you achieve your dreams." Liam said, pointing to the three camels lying nearby, each carrying two bags filled with various golden artifacts.
"I understand, and I'm very grateful for your gift. But I still feel a bit heartbroken—" Jonathan began, but Evelyn elbowed him in the chest. "Shut up! It's their money, not yours to comment on."
Evelyn then turned to Liam and said, "Thank you for the gift. I think I'll soon achieve my dream of becoming an archaeologist, and I believe funding a group to pursue their dreams is a truly great thing."
"Ah, thank you for your kind words", Liam smiled. "Well, I need to wait here for my fiancée to finish learning what she wants. What are your next plans?"
"Of course, we'll leave with you. Adbay left enough water and food to last us a long time, and I can use this opportunity to study this legendary ancient ruin."
In the days that followed, Liam spent his free time in the room below, helping Hermione study the Death Force of this world. Evelyn continuously took photos and made records throughout the ancient ruins, while her brother Jonathan reluctantly accompanied her, wandering through the ruins. For Jonathan, he would much rather spend his time in a bar than in the desert, surrounded by ancient stone statues.
A week after Adbay's departure, Hermione finally completed her analysis of the Death Law of this world. Having previously spent months thoroughly analyzing the Death Law behind the archway in the Ministry of Magic, she only needed to identify the specific differences in the rules of this world. This saved a significant amount of time that would have been required for a full analysis from scratch.
"How long have I been researching here?" Hermione asked Liam, who had been with her the entire time, as she tidied herself up.
"It's been exactly ten days. That's pretty fast", Liam said as he took the two heavy books Hermione handed him and placed them in his Spatial Bag. "What do you think?"
"Great", Hermione said with a raised eyebrow and a smile. "After delving into the similar or identical rules of different worlds, I found that comparing their differences helps me grasp the Death Law much faster. For example, the Resurrection Spell I learned in this world can't be used in ours due to the different rules, but it allows me to understand the core of the Death Law, the Cycle of Life and Death, more accurately."
"That's good. After all, the war in our homeland has escalated. The stronger we are, the better our chances of victory", Liam nodded with a smile.
On their way back to the surface, Liam told Hermione about his plan for the wealth they had acquired. Hermione thought it was brilliant. "Storing gold and jewelry serves no purpose. Money only has value when it circulates. Your idea to invest in a group of people is excellent."
Listening to Hermione, Liam couldn't help but smile. Finding someone who shared his thoughts was truly a stroke of luck.
"Can we leave for Cairo now?" Evelyn asked. With Liam's help using Magic, she had managed to copy all the inscriptions and patterns from the ruins, either by rubbing or photographing them. Fortunately, Adbay had left enough camels for them to carry all the bags of documents.
"Yes, everything is done. Let's go!" Liam responded in a light tone.
Half a month later, Liam and Hermione bid farewell to Evelyn and her brother Jonathan at the pier as they boarded a passenger ship to Britain. With the wealth they had acquired, Evelyn could finally pursue her dream of attending a prestigious university. Her brother, Jonathan, on the other hand, was concerned about his sister being bullied in Britain after their parents' death, and with the money, he wanted to explore a more prosperous place instead of staying in Egypt, a land of sand and dust. So, he naturally went with her.
Of course, Liam and Hermione didn't idle during those two weeks. Eight days earlier, they returned to Cairo, and Evelyn and Jonathan were busy converting the gold and jewelry into cash and applying to universities. Liam, meanwhile, subtly learned from Evelyn about the legend of the Scorpion King. He and Hermione then spent two days riding their brooms to find the temple where the Scorpion King's Bracelet was kept, retrieving it and placing it alongside the Spear of Judgment they had found in Hamunaptra.
Through another ritual, Liam managed to have the divine power from the Bracelet and the Spear of Judgment absorbed by the local gods. However, the remaining items still provided a wealth of knowledge: the Bracelet contained information about seals and how to break them, while the Spear of Judgment offered knowledge on maximizing energy to inflict the greatest single-target damage. These two items were more valuable to Liam than all the ordinary treasures in Hamunaptra.
"Really, I can't understand why these ancient people always liked to seal away those big bad guys. Thankfully, our world doesn't have this habit, or we'd be in a lot more trouble than just dealing with that noseless, bald guy", Hermione commented after hearing the story of the Scorpion King.
"Exactly. Our ancestors were good people. For instance, when Herpo, who bred the Basilisk, used it for several large-scale attacks and was caught, he was burned with Fiendfyre, both body and soul. That way, we don't have to face hordes of resurrected enemies like these poor souls do", Liam agreed wholeheartedly. Saving the world is a great thing, but doing it daily and facing different enemies every time would be a nightmare.
