Chapter 514: Cardinal Lanchi's Leisurely Days
Chapter 514: Cardinal Lanchi's Leisurely Days
There has always been a saying in the Namantina Territory.
The summer months of June, devoid of holidays, tend to drag on tediously.
However, today, the city-state is abuzz with festive celebrations.
Even at nine in the morning, the seaside taverns in the eastern district of the city are already bustling with life. The salty sea breeze mingles with the lively cheers from the open-air tables, creating a unique summer ambiance.
Inside the tavern, the laughter of sergeants fills the air as they gather around, indulging in delicious food and drink. Waiters scurry about like hummingbirds in a treehouse, tending to their customers' every need.
On this morning, the tavern owner has brought out his special brew, a fiery liquor that seems to ignite the souls of those brave enough to challenge it. Their eyes shine with a mix of awe and trepidation as they prepare to down a small cup, knowing full well it might be their last drink of the day.
Amidst this merry atmosphere, a commander bearing the rank of colonel raises his cup high, his voice booming like a battle drum: "To our victory, to our honor, to the Namantina Territory, and to the noble High Cardinal—cheers!"
Each word he speaks is infused with strength and pride, reverberating like a revitalizing wind throughout the tavern and beyond.
The night before, they had returned from a grueling battle, their bodies still bearing the scars of war. Yet, their hearts are filled with the joy of victory, relishing this hard-earned peaceful morning.
Cardinal Lanchi walks by the tavern with a smile on his face.
He glances inside, feeling that today is a good day, with the entire city-state coming to life in celebration.
"The infant was born in the southern lands of the kingdom, on the borders of the noble settlements, as a meteor fell from the Lion Constellation. As the child grew into a young cleric, he became the strongest staff of the Goddess, traveling far and wide, bringing triumph over adversity wherever he went..."
Even now, the minstrels on the streets are singing ballads of the High Cardinal's heroic deeds.
The people of the city-state gather eagerly to listen to this new hymn, titled "Thorny Lionheart."
"...”
Many people are but passersby in the High Cardinal's life, playing different roles in his journey. Like Lanchi at this moment, no elaborate planning is needed for him to assist Loren in protecting the people of the Namantina Territory.
However, knowledge and expertise vary from person to person. Lanchi lacks the early dedication of the High Cardinal, who vowed to devote his life to the Goddess from a young age. Lanchi only wishes to retire and can only offer help to the extent of his abilities.
"I need to speed things up," Lanchi mutters to himself as he gazes at the sun-dappled sea.
More than a year has passed.
In the coming months, he must find a way to visit the Krexe Empire to the south.
Perhaps due to his constant thwarting of the vampires' plans to harm Hyperian, they are growing increasingly restless. Even the United Kingdom Parliament senses the mounting unrest within the Krexe Empire.
If he delays further, the safety of Duke Migaya and Miss Ifatia could be at stake. Lanchi takes pride in his civil commissions, always giving his all regardless of the size or difficulty of the task.
Before that, he still has one more challenge to face—another attempt at the Blood Moon's broken shadow world with Hyperian.
He is already close to the fifth tier, and any shadow world could help him achieve that ascension.
In addition to the fake tablet of wind, he now possesses a genuine Primordial Tablet of Seals, which enhances the majority of his summons.
The Great Lover, a being of spirit and wood, the Inferno Choir's Beautiful Notes with their spiritual and sealing abilities, the Little Sun, a radiant beacon of light and seals, and the Nuclear Fusion Wolf, a creature of fire and seals—all benefit from the tablet's power.
Only the Great Lover, a being of spirit and wood, is unaffected by the Primordial Tablet of Seals.
Additionally, during the second shadow world's Holy Evil Dinner, Lanchi encountered an unknown sealing spell called Everlasting Punishment. While he could remember and understand the principle of the spell, he would only be able to attempt to master it once he reached the fifth tier.
Unlike Loren, who is a natural-born spellcaster, Lanchi has yet to learn any spells. His true nature is that of an artisan, and his spellcasting relies heavily on magic cards. The most prestigious type, epic-level spell cards, remain elusive, their shadows unseen.
Vampires are inherently endowed with epic-level spell-like abilities, and demons can discover their innate talents, granting them access to epic-level spells. However, throughout history, the greatest human mages have rarely been able to create more than one epic-level spell in their lifetimes, and even then, those spells could not be passed down.
In Lanchi's opinion, spell cards that instantly grant one the ability to cast epic-level spells are nothing short of cheating.
This is why, in the Northern Continent, Lanchi taught Zestira about spell cards, the most prestigious type of magic card. In the Infinite Library, spell cards are the cards to seek.
"Haha, without it, I'd still be alive."
Cardinal Lanchi chuckled, finding solace in his own words. He didn't have a particular affinity for magic or spell cards.
Once the world was at peace, he would have nothing left to desire, just like the gentle descent into the arms of fate that the falling stars seemed to symbolize.
Perhaps.
With these thoughts, Cardinal Lanchi continued his leisurely stroll along the seaside streets of the eastern district of the Namantina Territory.
His footsteps meandered along the winding path, savoring the rare moment of tranquility. With the barrier restored and more reinforcements arriving in the Northern Herton Kingdom, including the presence of a High Cleric, there was little worry of any imminent unrest.
Cardinal Lanchi was well aware that the vampires wouldn't dare to attack during the day.
The Great Lover was intrigued by the Decayed Alchemy Beast, and Plana had some knowledge of demonic alchemical creations, but the beast couldn't stay in the Namantina Territory for long without attracting the attention of the city's defenses.
Thus, Plana and his companions had sealed the unruly Decayed Alchemy Beast and taken it back to the royal capital of Ikelite before sunrise to assist the Great Lover in her research.
It would be a boon if they could turn the beast into a controllable summon.
The only problem was that using this summon might lead to confusion with the Decayed Bishop Famir.
Especially when it came to Famir's arch-nemesis, the Undead Sword Saint, Miss Julianna. If she caught sight of the Decayed Alchemy Beast, she might not hesitate to strike without saying a word.
As the guardian of the Aloran Kingdom, Julianna kept a close eye on the infiltration and movements of the Decayed Branch, and despite agreeing to go on a date with Loren half a year ago, neither party had been able to fulfill this promise.
"Sigh, I'll help them again next time," Cardinal Lanchi shook his head, always concerned about Loren's romantic endeavors.
It was a pity that even after returning to the Southern Continent, he hadn't heard any news of a successful date between the two.
And so, Cardinal Lanchi continued his walk along the dazzling seaside.
Over ten minutes passed in a flash.
The East Port of the Namantina Territory.
The morning sun sparkled on the gentle sea breeze, like countless tiny diamonds dancing on the waves.
Numerous ships bustled in preparation for their voyage, seagulls cried out in the air, and the faint sound of ropes and sails filled the air.
At the dock stood a large passenger ship, moored by the shore.
Cardinal Lanchi, dressed casually in a waistcoat, arrived at the port, his figure particularly striking in the sunlight.
He bid farewell to a few figures with a smile.
"Here is your letter of recommendation. Find any branch of the Church of Dominance in the Protoss Empire, and you will be able to get in touch with her."
Cardinal Lanchi handed over a leather-bound document pouch to the Great Clerics before him.
He had come alone to the port that morning to fulfill his promise and arrange a new future for these Great Clerics of the Destruction Branch.
The Destruction Great Clerics looked at each other, still a little apprehensive.
Being in the company of this enigmatic gentleman gave them a sense of reassurance, but as they embarked on their journey across the ocean, they wondered if the Church of Dominance would accept them, disregarding their affiliation with the Destruction Branch.
"Don't worry, my friends. When you meet her, you will find that she is like another me in this world."
Cardinal Lanchi's words carried a hint of nostalgia as the corners of his mouth curled up involuntarily.
Every day spent with Sigrid had been filled with happiness, and ever since returning to the Southern Continent, his memories of the Northern Continent invariably included her.
Cardinal Lanchi reached into his pocket and took out another letter, addressing Elaine, the former Great Cleric of the Destruction Branch, and the first one he had guided back to the right path.
"Elaine, I have one more favor to ask. Please deliver this letter to Miss Sigrid; just say it's from Roche McCassy."
Cardinal Lanchi made his request.
"Oh, okay..."
Elaine, the Great Cleric, carefully took the letter from Cardinal Lanchi.
"I will make sure it reaches her."
She bowed to him.
Unlike the letter of recommendation, this one seemed more personal. The cover was inscribed with neat and beautiful handwriting, the ink fresh, and the wax and seal as neat as a work of art.
In recent decades, the magical pollution in the seas between the Northern and Southern Continents had made communication via magic unreliable, and so the resurgence of letter writing had become a revived means of communication between the two lands.
And thus, reliable couriers between the continents could earn a pretty penny.
The Great Clerics began to understand.
This gentleman had not only cooperated deeply with the Church of Dominance but also shared a close personal relationship.
After bidding farewell several times, they boarded the ship under Cardinal Lanchi's watchful gaze.
Cardinal Lanchi stood on the dock, facing the sea breeze and gazing out at the boundless northern sea, relishing his moment of leisure.
