Chapter 511: The Cursed Hospital (Part 9)
Chapter 511: The Cursed Hospital (Part 9)
After leaving the Nursery, Feng Bu Jue’s mood soured considerably.
He had expected that completing such a high-difficulty side quest task would at least reward him with a Flawless-grade Equipment.
Instead, he only received a story item...
[Name: Meal Card]
[Type: Plot-related]
[Quality: Common]
[Function: Can be used to purchase work meals at the Hospital 1F dining hall]
[Can be taken out of the scenario]
[Background: Cedar County Public Hospital staff ID card. Must be recharged at the dining hall.]
“Completing a side quest task only to get a story item that can’t be turned into a puzzle piece card… Which means… this must be essential for another side quest task,” Feng Bu Jue muttered, holding the Meal Card. “I paid such a steep price to finish this task and get this card. I can’t just leave it unused… So, I’ll have to take on another task related to this item…”
Pocketing the Meal Card, he sighed. “Sigh… This scenario seems like you can do nothing, but in reality, there’s so much to do you’ll never finish…”
“Hiiii….” That eerie laugh from before echoed again, as if guiding the player forward.
“Room 125…” Feng Bu Jue followed the sound and reached a Pediatrics Ward door. Checking the number, he reached for the doorknob.
The door wasn’t locked. A twist, and it opened.
For a few seconds, Feng Bu Jue felt uneasy. He half-expected the prompt [The door is locked] to pop up, forcing him to search elsewhere for a key.
“Hiiii… Uncle, you’re here.” A little girl sat on the hospital bed in the room’s corner. Her face remained hidden behind long hair, and the crimson dress she wore stood out starkly in the shadows.
“Ah… Right.” Feng Bu Jue replied. “As agreed, I’m here to comb your hair.”
Slowly, the girl rose, circling the bed halfway before stopping at the bedside table. She opened a drawer and pulled out a large mirror with a stand.
Her movements were deliberate, every gesture exuding an unsettling aura. It made one wonder even more… what her face truly looked like.
After setting up the mirror, the girl fetched a stool and sat down. Her face faced the mirror directly. From behind the curtain of hair, her voice floated out, ethereal and hollow: “I want a ponytail.”
“Oh… Sure.” Feng Bu Jue retrieved the Small Comb from his pocket. “Your hair’s so long… How about twin ponytails?”
“Okay.” The girl’s tone, inexplicably, turned cold.
If this were a horror film, the atmosphere had reached its peak tension—meaning something terrifying was imminent…
At this point, anyone could guess what terrible outcome awaited when he brushed aside that fringe of hair.
Feng Bu Jue knew this well but remained unfazed. His Terror Value wouldn’t budge anyway. Unconcerned.
Stepping behind her, he placed both hands on her forehead. As his fingers delved into her hair, a cold sensation seeped from his fingertips…
He didn’t hesitate. With a sweep, he brushed her long fringe aside to reveal her face.
The next moment, her reflection in the mirror sent chills down his spine.
This little girl appeared human at first glance, but her face was covered in scale-like skin. Eight eyes lined her face in two vertical rows. She had no nose, her lipless mouth revealing two rows of fangs.
With no artificial light in the room, Feng Bu Jue set his flashlight on the bedside table, angling it upward to illuminate the girl. This upward tilt would make even a normal face ten times scarier under the flashlight’s harsh gleam—let alone a monster’s.
Yet Feng Bu Jue remained composed, casually combing her hair as if nothing unusual had happened.
“Uncle, do you like stories?” The girl suddenly spoke.
“I do…” Feng Bu Jue answered calmly, mentally noting: Another side quest task? Or a deeper plot reveal?
“Then let me tell you one, okay?” The girl continued.
“Go ahead…” Feng Bu Jue said. “I’m slow at combing hair.”
His “slow” might as well mean “clueless”…
Clearly, a man who once struggled to tie his own shoes couldn’t possibly master braiding. In fact, when she said “ponytail,” Feng Bu Jue’s mind had gone blank. Agreeing to “twin ponytails” was purely a stall tactic…
“Long ago, this place wasn’t a hospital…” The girl began.
“Uh-oh… This opening line already feels ominous…” Feng Bu Jue mentally groaned. “Don’t tell me it used to be a graveyard…”
“…but a cemetery.” The girl’s words confirmed his guess.
“Is it really that cliché?” Feng Bu Jue thought.
“They say this land is cursed,” the girl continued. “Souls buried here can never rest in peace. Those who linger here for too long suffer misfortune…”
“Wait… Is it even safe to build a hospital here?” Feng Bu Jue wondered.
“One day, a greedy man came,” the girl said. “He embezzled the county government’s funds, seized this cheap cursed land, and built a hospital here.”
“Oh… I think I understand a lot now…” Feng Bu Jue replied.
“Construction took an incredibly long time. Accidents and deaths plagued the project. Even the construction teams changed multiple times. But that greedy man ignored everything, persisting with his plan.” The girl’s voice grew heavier. “Eventually, the hospital was completed. This cursed land became a cursed hospital. Every day… many people step into this forbidden place they should never have entered… Some manage to leave, others… cannot. And even those who leave… misfortune shadows them for years, as if an invisible force is slowly pulling them back here…”
The girl’s ethereal voice deepened with each word. Her tone… gradually filled with anger and resentment.
