Chapter 511: Indifference
Chapter 511: Indifference
"Hawkins doesn't want to continue," Lily stated bluntly. "Urki hasn't responded either, and Sifer is nowhere to be found. I assume they mean the same."
"Don't joke around."
Sag chuckled dismissively and stepped out of the bathtub right in front of Lily, his bare body on display. He spread his arms, and the attending maid respectfully wrapped a bath towel around him.
"How could they possibly quit?"
Within the Calamity Pirates, if a New Star-level member wanted to leave, Sag might not care and let them go without pursuing the matter.
But for a Seventh Star-level member, regardless of whether Sag agreed or not, they themselves, to put it conservatively, would never even consider such a thought before Sag experienced a major failure.
A Seventh Star-level pirate was a core crew member within the pirate crew. If the crew operated in a purely elite mode, the Tri-Phase Seven Stars would be his essential team, with no option to withdraw and no such intention.
Sag didn't believe they would want to quit.
"What? Were they threatened by someone? Did someone discover their dark past? Or is there a secret they don't want others to know?"
Sag walked over to the liquor cabinet, opened a bottle of alcohol, and sat down on a spacious chair in the bathroom for relaxation. He poured himself a glass, drank it in one go, and the bright red liquid flowed from the corner of his mouth to his chin, as if he had just finished drinking fresh blood.
"Forget it, I'll go there myself."
"You're going personally?" Lily frowned. "Isn't that a bit too much? I can go instead."
"Old Hawk and the Monk are not weak. If things go wrong there, it might take you some time as well. Forget it."
Hawkins and Urki, with bounties of 870 million and 866 million, respectively, were undoubtedly formidable pirates anywhere.
There was still a gap between them and Lily. With her current strength, she could handle these two, but not without some cost.
It was better for Sag to go himself.
"Besides, it's too slow. Traveling takes time, so I might as well go myself."
After finishing his drink, Sag stood up, changed into a new set of clothes after leaving the bathroom, and put on a white pirate shirt with lace trim. He swapped his lower garment for a pair of black martial arts pants and, after putting on his boots, adorned himself with his signature gold and silver treasure jewelry. With a snap of his fingers, the cloak, armguards, and black jade bead necklace hanging nearby floated over without any wind, as if drawn to him.
Thundercloud, Flame, and Saber were now Sag's three signature items.
Stepping out of the bathroom and into the backyard, Sag kicked and snapped a nearby tree with his foot. He took the tree trunk and extended his hand toward Lily.
Lily handed over the three Life Cards, saying, "If we sail, it will take half a day to get there. But if you fly, you can stop in ten minutes."
"Tell Mary Card that I want to eat stir-fry for lunch."
As he spoke, he glanced at the direction the Life Card in his palm was moving, and his arm suddenly swelled, lifting and throwing the tree trunk forward.
"Hundredfold!"
Bang! The moment the tree left his hands, Sag's body also transformed into an afterimage. He stepped onto the tree as it enlarged in midair and, in the next instant, unleashed a blast of energy, soaring toward the sky and becoming a tiny black dot in the blink of an eye.
This method of solo travel was far more convenient than using clouds or a ship.
Lily shook her head as she watched Sag disappear in an instant. "When those few return, they'll have to face punishment. It's embarrassing for the Calamity Pirates to have Sag personally go."
A Seventh Star-level member calling to say they're quitting? Lily found the whole situation unbelievable. These individuals had been with the crew for years, and it was impossible for them to be so lacking in ambition. Lily suspected that something unexpected had happened, but regardless of the circumstances, saying such words was unacceptable, even if they were under the influence of a Devil Fruit ability.
The Calamity Pirates didn't care about background or status; they recruited anyone and everyone, as long as they weren't the kind of chaotic individuals that Sage disliked. However, for this level of executive position, they needed to have some skills.
The Seventh Star rank was not about ruling the seas, nor could they afford to lose their ambition and will. If Sage didn't care about it, Lily would have to teach them the rules again.
...
Renison Island was located in the first half of the New World, an island that belonged to the uncharted territories of the Calamity Pirates.
There were countless islands in the vast sea. Even in the Grand Line, many remained undiscovered. Most of these places lacked the magnetic fields necessary for the recording compass to point to. If one were to navigate solely by the compass, they might never find these islands in their lifetime.
Only by moving the permanence compass back and forth could one possibly discover such islands in certain sea areas.
Sage's sphere of influence was vast, but it was just that—an area. He had roughly marked a large region as his territory, but in reality, aside from Big Mom's sphere of influence, he had no idea how many unknown islands were within his own domain.
These were all waiting to be explored and discovered.
Sifer's voyage was incredibly lucky, as he stumbled upon an island that had never been discovered by anyone, and it happened to be within Sage's own territory.
This was because, aside from the permanence compass from Ohara, he had brought nothing with him. His voyage was a journey of whimsy, drifting with the wind, going wherever it blew him. He sailed with the wind, and the rudder followed wherever the wind led. Surprisingly, he had found an island.
However, this island had no towns; it was filled with villages, and there were many of them. From above, one could see that villages were scattered all over the island. Most of them were small, formed by a cluster of ten or so houses.
The environment of the island was quite pleasant. It was surrounded by the sea on two sides, and the other two sides had small mountains covered in lush forests. The center was flatland, providing ample space for fishing, natural resources, and farmland.
The islanders lived a peaceful and tranquil life. They ate when hungry, slept when tired, and enjoyed themselves when they felt like it. Every second was spent in comfort. Aside from the two large ships with the Calamity Pirates' emblem docked nearby, there wasn't even a small boat in sight around the island.
In the outskirts of a village, Hawkins, Urki, and Sifer lay on the grass, basking in the gentle breeze and soaking in the warm sunlight. They closed their eyes, seemingly about to fall asleep.
"Did you say something?" Sifer asked lazily, like a sloth. He slowly spoke, then took a die out of his pocket, examined it for a moment, and then tossed it aside. "Forget it. I have no desire to gamble."
"I said something," Hawkins replied, feeling the breeze and closing his eyes comfortably. "I never thought that one day, after finding peace, I would become so calm. The idea of being a pirate, chasing dreams, all of it seems so meaningless now."
"Yeah, this place is great," Urki agreed, stretching out his hand to slightly block the sunlight, allowing the rays to shine through his fingers onto his face. "We don't even need to transmigrate. Perhaps this is the ultimate tranquility that only deities can attain."
A newly promoted New Star, with the potential to become a Seventh Star, and two Seventh Star pirates seemed to have lost all desire. They were like the calm of basking in the afternoon sun or the desirelessness that comes after achieving one's dreams.
Peaceful, yet something felt amiss.
