Chapter 510: The Cursed Hospital (Part 8)
Chapter 510: The Cursed Hospital (Part 8)
Before long, Feng Bu Jue followed the sound of crying to reach the Hospital's Nursery wing.
Feng Bu Jue was relatively familiar with ghost infants as monsters - he had encountered them before during the Yejie High School scenario. Back then his combat power was no different from an ordinary person, yet he still managed to defeat those monsters. So this time, he felt reasonably confident.
"Listening to the sound, it seems like there's more than one..." Feng Bu Jue realized as he approached the Nursery's entrance. "Could there be a surprise attack the moment I open the door?" He pondered. "Did you have to collect candy first to come here and open the door?" He tilted his head, frowning slightly. "Hmm... thinking about it, newborns can't eat candy, right? Unless Monster Kingdom infants are born with super digestion systems?"
After hesitating for a while, he pushed the door open and entered. There was no obvious death omen here, and compared to Room 109, the horror factor seemed significantly lower.
Inside, Feng Bu Jue found himself in a rectangular space of about 70-80 square meters, with dozens of miniature beds neatly arranged. The small beds had railings around them, presumably to prevent infants from rolling off.
He raised his flashlight and swept the beam around the room. Feng Bu Jue counted only five infants on the beds - four positioned at the Nursery's four corners, and one on the bed closest to the entrance.
The four distant infants were crying, but the one near the door remained eerily quiet.
"Hmm... as the saying goes... the dog that bites doesn't bark..." Feng Bu Jue muttered to himself as he pulled out his folding knife and directed his flashlight toward the infant nearest to him.
The child actually raised one hand to shield its face and spoke: "Hey! What do you think you're doing? Trying to blind me? Move that artificial light already!" Its voice was surprisingly deep and mature, sounding more like a man in his twenties or thirties, with clear enunciation and a thick African-American accent.
For a moment, Feng Bu Jue thought he was hallucinating, as the voice was so unexpectedly comical in this environment that it instantly dispelled all horror atmosphere with just one sentence.
"What's going on? Is that you? Chris?" Feng Bu Jue said as he slowly moved the flashlight away, stepping forward a couple of paces. (At this point, Feng Bu Jue made a small joke with his inappropriately timed sense of humor, referring to Chris_Rock when he mentioned "Chris")
"Who?" The infant replied. "What nonsense are you talking? My name is Ma Ding."
"Uh... sorry..." Feng Bu Jue had already gotten a clear look at the infant by now. The "Ma Ding" before him was indeed an infant, but judging from his size, he wasn't a newborn but about seven or eight months old. Additionally, his skin was definitely dark, with a lightning-rod-like horn growing on top of his head.
"Are you the security guard here?" Ma Ding asked while looking up at Feng Bu Jue.
"Yes." Feng Bu Jue replied.
"Oh, perfect timing then. Can you get those four brats to shut up? They're driving me crazy." Ma Ding sat up and pointed toward the four other infants at the room's corners. The children were still crying.
"Hmm... how exactly should I do that?" Feng Bu Jue asked.
"Do I have to teach you everything? How did you even survive this long, kid?" Ma Ding shot back. "Even a blind man can see they're hungry. Hurry up and feed them!"
"I see... so I should feed them milk, right..." Feng Bu Jue responded. "Hmm... I know a nurse..." He made a lifting motion with his hands near his chest. "Maybe she could help..."
"Are you out of your damn mind?" Ma Ding continued his rhythmic, rap-like cursing. "Don't you even know what infants eat?" His speech was peppered with the F-word, used in the present continuous tense.
"Hoo boy... Mr. Ma, you're not even that old, but you sure know how to curse up a storm..." Feng Bu Jue shot back.
Ma Ding glared at Feng Bu Jue and raised his short middle finger.
"Alright then..." Feng Bu Jue realized that nonsense wouldn't help continue the conversation. He had already figured out that Monster Kingdom infants don't need milk, so he asked, "Then please, what should I feed them?"
"Vomit! What else?" Ma Ding replied matter-of-factly.
"What?!"
"Are you making that face to emphasize how stupid you are?" Ma Ding shot back.
After a brief moment of surprise and hesitation, Feng Bu Jue quickly reached a conclusion as he pondered: "Sandwich... so that's how it's used..." He took a deep breath. "In some ways, this scenario really is extremely challenging..."
"What are you muttering about?" Ma Ding urged him, pointing toward somewhere in the room. "The bottles are over there. Vomit into them and screw the lids on tight. Did I make myself clear enough? Or are you even capable of understanding basic instructions?"
"Understood completely..." Feng Bu Jue said solemnly as he walked in the direction the infant had pointed.
The expression on his face looked like he was about to head to his execution.
A [Side Quest Task Activated] notification had already appeared in his mind.
[Feed Four Monster Infants with Vomit] appeared on his task bar.
Clear task instructions, straightforward mission line that could be completed immediately. No issues with any of that, except for one thing... the nature of the task itself.
Feng Bu Jue soon reached a long table by the wall. On it sat a metal tray with four bottle-shaped containers. The tray and the bottom of the bottles were stained with thick, oddly-colored liquid that certainly didn't look like milk...
"Hehe... this'll be convenient - no need to wash after feeding..." Feng Bu Jue said as he placed his flashlight on the table and reached out to open the bottles one by one.
Now came the step of "producing food"...
"Need to think positive..." Feng Bu Jue took out the plastic bag from his pocket. As he opened the seal, a foul, moldy stench immediately hit him. "At least I don't have to worry about an empty stomach, or poking my own throat."
Feng Bu Jue took out the sandwich and took a bite. His plan was to get it over with quickly - swallow the thing in three or five bites, then vomit it out. What he hadn't expected was that with the first bite, he realized he was in trouble.
The sandwich's level of disgust was far beyond his estimation... The overflowing sour juice, the mold strands sticking to his teeth, the wriggling maggots... all of these were extreme challenges to both human physiology and psychology.
Terrifying Paradise's simulation of such disgusting physical substances was always extremely realistic. For ordinary people, after taking just one bite, they might immediately choose to disconnect from the game, unable to endure this torture...
But Feng Bu Jue... His expression quickly shifted from shock to anger.
He seemed to have made a decision... Driving his jaw viciously, he used his teeth to grind up those sticky unknown substances and swallowed them all.
Then, after about five seconds of preparation, he leaned forward and vomited the first bottle full.
"Alright... three more bottles to go..." With determination in his eyes, he picked up the remaining sandwich and took another bite.
Thus, after about five minutes, Feng Bu Jue successfully filled four bottles with vomit liquid and attached nipples to the bottles.
"Hmph... that wasn't so bad! Hahaha!" He laughed loudly as if he had accomplished something truly great, then quickly ran to a nearby long sink, turned on the faucet, and began rinsing his mouth.
Thankfully, Monster Kingdom's tap water was still just tap water. If sulfur or something came out of the faucet, Feng Bu Jue wouldn't have known what to do.
He flushed and rinsed for quite a while, finally getting rid of seven or eight tenths of the bad taste in his mouth. Then he pulled out some Chewing Gum from his pocket and put three strips in his mouth at once, chewing furiously.
"Is this task really designed for humans to complete?" Feng Bu Jue placed the four bottles back on the tray as he walked toward the first infant in the corner of the room. "Even though I'm playing as a monster in this scenario, the system should know I'm actually a player..."
The next steps were much simpler. As soon as the monster infants saw Feng Bu Jue carrying "food", they raised their hands high and their crying turned into babbling sounds. As soon as Feng Bu Jue extended the bottle, it was snatched away. Watching those children suck on the liquid in the bottles with such obvious enjoyment, even Feng Bu Jue couldn't help but look away, slightly disgusted...
"Ah~ Much quieter now." Once the four children had all calmed down, Ma Ding near the entrance exhaled in relief.
Feng Bu Jue carefully placed the tray and walked back toward the door. He glanced at his game menu and noticed the task hadn't been marked as complete yet. It seemed he still had to "report" to Ma Ding.
"I have this feeling... that in this universe, or any other universe... there's practically nothing I can't do anymore." Feng Bu Jue stood in front of Ma Ding with a reflective expression, delivering his words with a drifting tone. Internally, he was thinking: If the reward for this task turns out to be some useless junk, I'll stab you to death...
"Good job, bro." Ma Ding replied. "If they kept acting up, I'd have been on the verge of a nervous breakdown." He paused and asked, "Hey, got a smoke?"
Feng Bu Jue gave the "infant" before him a sidelong glance with a blank expression, then silently pulled out his Half Pack of Cigarettes and offered it forward...
Ma Ding casually pulled out a cigarette, stuck it in his mouth, then glanced up at Feng Bu Jue and shrugged his shoulders.
Since his unspoken message was obvious, Feng Bu Jue didn't say anything... He simply pulled out his lighter and lit the cigarette for the infant.
"Phewww..." Looking extremely pleased, Ma Ding exhaled a smoke ring like an old man. "Ah... it's been so long since I've had a smoke."
"Here, the whole pack's yours..." Feng Bu Jue said as he placed both the cigarettes and lighter on the infant's small bed.
"Hehe... thanks then." Ma Ding chuckled, his smile looking as terrifying as could be. "I can tell you're a decent guy, and you've helped me out quite a bit. I should give you something in return..."
