Chapter 51: Various Parties
Chapter 51: Various Parties
Numerous large rats emerged from the darkness, quickly forming a mound before the siblings' eyes. As the swarm dispersed, a graceful figure appeared before them.
"Mei!"
The Rat Lady looked at her brother and smiled, "We meet again."
"Hmph!"
The sister snorted, stepping closer to her brother, instinctively blocking the Rat Lady's gaze.
"What are you doing here?" Mei, the archer, asked with a cold expression, "It's over between us."
"Tsk tsk..." The siblings' attitude caused the Rat Lady to shake her head and click her tongue.
"So heartless. Have you forgotten the time we spent together? Those days were truly wonderful."
"Pah!" Before her brother could speak, the sister's face had already changed, "How shameless!"
"I didn't think it was wonderful," the brother added, "I only felt disgusted!"
His gaze fell on the rats in the corner, as if recalling a scene too embarrassing to mention, his expression turning extremely unpleasant.
"A lover can never compare to a sister, but a sister can never become a lover," the Rat Lady said, her voice lowering as she observed the siblings' affectionate attitude, "But that's not necessarily true..."
"Rat Lady," the brother frowned, "Speak, what are you here for?"
"I have a request," the Rat Lady shrugged, "I want you two to help me kill someone."
"Hmph!" The sister pouted, "Do you think we'll agree?"
"There's a reward," the Rat Lady said, "I know you've always wanted to leave Black City. Now's your chance; killing this person will allow you to exchange for an exit pass from the City Guard."
The siblings exchanged a glance, both seeing the eagerness in each other's eyes.
"We want black stones!" the brother said.
"I don't trust the City Guard. Give us black stones, and we'll leave with the Butterfly Madam's caravan," he added.
"A smart choice," the Rat Lady applauded, "But there are only a thousand black stones. You'll have to figure out the rest."
A thousand?
That's not even enough for one person to leave.
The brother's eyes flickered as he quickly calculated their combined savings, then he relaxed and said, "Give us half first!"
"That's not a problem," the Rat Lady nodded, "His name is Karl."
...
In a certain ruined area, the once-standing houses had long collapsed.
Dozens of half-dead creatures loitered nearby, their mouths emitting mournful sounds as they occasionally lifted wooden boards to inspect the ground.
Beneath a collapsed earthen wall, Eve Dorn, with her long hair in disarray, held her breath, afraid to make the slightest sound even with her broken arm.
The unique breathing technique she had cultivated allowed her to suppress her life force to the greatest extent.
Otherwise...
The bones scattered outside would have been her fate.
Hurry!
Run!
A distant rumble echoed through the ground.
The half-dead creatures searching through the ruins paused, then slowly turned and looked towards the source of the sound.
The next moment,
"Wuu!"
With a low roar, the sluggish half-dead creatures leaned forward and darted out like sharp arrows.
"Whoosh!"
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
Shadows darted across, and two of them even stepped on the earthen wall, causing Eve's body to tremble beneath them.
A moment later,
"Boom!"
The earthen wall exploded, and Eve burst out from underneath, panting heavily. She called out,
"Mark!"
"I'm over here."
Not far away, the ground stirred, and a person struggled to crawl out, panting heavily. His voice carried a sense of relief, "If I had stayed a moment longer, I might have been buried alive."
"Let's go," Eve urged, her arms hanging limply as she quickly scanned the surroundings, "If the half-dead return, we're in trouble."
"Yes."
Mark nodded and stumbled towards her.
"When we get back, I'm going to retrieve the Dorn family's spell seal," Eve said as they supported each other, "Old Lev owes it to me."
"Once you use the spell seal, it'll be difficult for you to become a knight," Mark turned to her and said, "And at Old Lev's age, extracting the spell seal could be fatal for him as well."
"I can't afford to consider that." Eve's expression turned cold. "With the Spell Seal, we have a higher chance of survival."
"Sigh!"
Mark sighed but didn't say more.
...
In an area close to the surface.
Over a dozen members of the Betty Family were launching an attack on a group of ants as large as human heads.
The ants had hard shells that could withstand blades and swords, and their mandibles and antennae were sharp enough to crush even Black Stones.
However, the Betty Family members were no ordinary fighters.
All of them, over a dozen, were Knight Attendants.
Several of them were fully armored, and the weapons they wielded, infused with Black Stones, were swung with formidable force.
"Pfft!"
The ants were smashed and flattened, their juices flying everywhere.
However, the ants in the front cave seemed endless; killing one wave only brought another, as if they would never be finished.
At the back of the group, the Betty Family's patriarch frowned and then waved his hand lightly.
"Peter!"
"Yes!"
One person stepped forward at the call, took a deep breath, and charged towards the ant swarm, spitting forward as he did so.
"Huff..."
An extreme cold wind blew by.
The tunnel quickly froze over, and ice crystals expanded at a visible speed, instantly sealing the ants.
Spell Seal - Frost Breath! This was a special Spell Seal, different from ordinary ones, and only Knights were qualified to master it. The entire Betty Family had only one, and even in the entire Black City, there might not be a second one.
Instantly,
As the ant swarm was sealed in ice, the Betty Family's charge became smooth.
Seizing the opportunity, the group rushed into the cave, clearing the way, and a queen ant the size of a house came into view.
"Good!"
The patriarch smiled:
"Thanks to the aberration in Pit Two, these ants were willing to relocate; otherwise, it would have been difficult to succeed."
"That's right." Someone spoke up:
"The Ant Queen can 'produce' two elite soldier ants every day, and their bodies contain Beast Meat."
"With it, it's like having an endless supply of Beast Meat!"
"Patriarch." A woman in the group spoke up:
"What's happening at Pit Two? The City Guard is prohibiting everyone from getting close, and we can't either."
"Don't pay it any mind." The patriarch's eyes narrowed:
"The person who told us to stay away from the underground for the time being, until the matter is resolved."
"Also..."
"Don't even think about redeeming Spell Seals or Life Elixirs from Hal if they don't want to die."
"Yes."
The group acknowledged.
"Uncle!"
When Karl appeared again, Aya greeted him with a delighted face:
"I got a Spell Seal from the Shadow Alliance and want to try infusing it into my body, so I might need to rest for a few days."
"A Spell Seal?"
Karl nodded:
"Congratulations."
"I'm not sure if it will work." Aya's face was filled with apprehension:
"Xiaonan will go with me. Firstly, it will prevent anyone from interfering, and secondly, if I fail, I'll give the Spell Seal to her."
"Big Sis will definitely succeed!" Xiaonan spoke up.
"I hope so." Aya smiled and added:
"While Xiaonan and I are away, please take care of Dana and the others, and don't explore too deep."
"Mhm."
Karl nodded:
"I understand."
The Spell Seals that the City Guard could redeem were not of high quality, like Iron Arm, Bee Ear, and Light Body... Their effects on the body were relatively weak.
If the Flame Seal and Steel Body were considered Zero-Circle Spells, then the Spell Seals offered by the City Guard were mere tricks, far inferior to those from the Shadow Alliance.
The reason Aya could obtain one so quickly was that she borrowed redemption materials from others.
Karl couldn't do the same.
He was still some distance away from redeeming a Life Elixir.
But not much longer.
