Chapter 51: Hass's Secret
Chapter 51: Hass's Secret
Jerry turned off the TV, grabbed the keys, and led Elsa out of the neighborhood, heading towards Lina's Magical Boutique nearby.
He always charged a fee for his good deeds, ranging from a few dollar bills to a couple of hundred dollars. Sometimes, he even took all the cash from the criminals he apprehended.
As a result, he now had over ten thousand dollars in savings, making him one of the wealthiest among his peers.
Buying Elsa a Wizard Outfit and a Magic Broom would be a breeze.
"Good afternoon, what can I get for you two?"
Inside the shop, the twenty-something owner, Lina, beamed as she handed a neatly packed Wizard Outfit and Magic Broom to a couple with their child. She then smiled and greeted Jerry and Elsa, who had just walked in.
Lina had always been a mysticism enthusiast, firmly believing in the existence of magic. After graduating from college, she opened this small shop specializing in various magical items.
Unfortunately, due to her lack of business acumen, the shop's performance was lackluster, and excessive inventory led to a cash flow crisis, nearly causing the business to fold.
Moreover, there was a "theft" incident in the past, but fortunately, the thief left enough money, so she didn't report it.
However, two weeks ago, her shop's business took off suddenly.
The reason was simple: the young hero who rode a broom and used magic was wearing a Wizard Outfit identical to the ones she sold.
This led to her stock of Wizard Outfits and Magic Brooms selling out almost immediately, attracting not only children but also many adults.
Seeing the success of the Wizard Outfits, Lina, who rarely showed any business acumen, quickly contacted manufacturers of magical toys to order a batch of wizard-themed flying brooms and wands.
The toy manufacturers, known for their keen business sense, swiftly adjusted their production lines to start manufacturing the wizard-themed Magic Brooms and Wands, replicating them almost perfectly.
This outcome was not unexpected for Jerry.
In his previous life, even fictional heroes from Marvel movies had inspired a plethora of products, such as Iron Man suits, Captain America shields, and the immensely popular, unisex Spider-Man costumes.
Now, as a real-life hero, it was only natural that manufacturers would produce replicas of his gear to capitalize on his fame.
The key was that these wizard-themed items were far less technologically complex than Iron Man's gear, making them easy for small manufacturers to produce.
This was exactly the effect he wanted.
As a child, his size was the most likely to expose his identity. Since he hadn't yet mastered higher-level magic like the Disguise Charm or Apparition, he was still at significant risk.
But now, with so many children around his age buying the same Wizard Outfits, Magic Brooms, and Wands, he could easily blend in as a regular kid, as long as he didn't actually fly or use magic.
This greatly reduced the chances of his identity being discovered.
"Give me two sets of the wizard-themed outfits and equipment, the best quality you have!"
Jerry pulled out five hundred-dollar bills and placed them on the counter.
"Of course, no problem! Just a moment, I'll get them packed for you right away!"
Lina's eyes lit up at the sight.
"Wizard, I love you so much!"
For Lina, the main reason her little shop was doing so well was thanks to the wizard. She truly felt grateful to him from the bottom of her heart.
Moreover, as a lover of the mystical, the wizard was her idol.
Pushing open the door, Jerry and Elsa walked down the street with pride, left hands carrying bags with Wizard Outfits and right hands holding imitation flying brooms, drawing envious glances from countless children.
"Jerry, look, isn't that Dad?"
At that moment, Elsa suddenly tugged at Jerry's arm, pointing to a coffee shop window on her right.
Hearing this, Jerry turned his head and couldn't help but let out a soft exclamation.
Sure enough, it was Hass sitting in the coffee shop, and he wasn't alone.
Across from him sat a beautifully dressed, curvaceous young woman with long, wavy blonde hair.
Taking a closer look, it was none other than their elementary school teacher, Miss Berry, who had bravely stood up during the school bus incident!
Seeing the two of them chatting and laughing, looking very sweet together, Jerry suddenly understood.
They must be dating!
No wonder, after the school bus hostage incident, Hass had insisted on taking Miss Berry out to dinner. It turns out he had planned it all along!
But Jerry thought it was a good thing.
Firstly, Hass had it tough these past few years, dealing with cases at the police station and taking care of the family, essentially being both a father and a mother.
Once Jerry became capable of handling household chores, he took over most of them.
Besides, Hass was still in his late thirties, full of energy, and indeed needed a partner.
Moreover, Jerry felt that Miss Berry was a great person. Her appearance was secondary; what mattered most was her character.
Her bravery during the school bus incident was evident.
While Jerry had the confidence to handle the criminals, Miss Berry had stepped forward purely to protect the children, willing to sacrifice herself.
Just that one act made her far more admirable than him.
If Miss Berry married Hass, Jerry wouldn't have to worry about household chores as much. Although using magic to do chores saved time, not having to deal with them at all would give him more time to study magic and earn Little Red Stars.
"Jerry, I want to drink coffee too!"
Seeing their father inside the coffee shop, Elsa swallowed hard.
"Kids shouldn't drink coffee; it's bad for your health. When we get home, I'll make you some milk!"
Jerry immediately rejected the idea.
Not only would it disturb Hass and Miss Berry's date, but at Elsa's age, coffee wasn't suitable.
Firstly, it was bad for her health, and secondly, he was afraid she wouldn't be able to sleep at night and would end up being restless.
Elsa pouted.
"I hate drinking milk the most!"
"Drinking milk helps you grow taller."
Jerry explained patiently.
"But I just don't like milk!"
Elsa clearly wasn't willing to compromise.
Jerry thought for a moment, then had an idea. He looked at Elsa.
"Okay, you can have coffee, but we'll have it at home, not there. Dad is talking with Miss Berry, and it wouldn't be nice to interrupt them!"
"I know, I know, they're just kissing. If we go there, they'll stop kissing!"
Elsa perked up at the thought of having coffee.
"You really are a little devil!"
Jerry was taken aback and shook his head helplessly.
Don't underestimate Elsa just because she's only ten. Due to her frequent exposure to TV and the internet, she knows a lot more than you might think for her age.
Without further ado, Jerry led Elsa back toward the neighborhood.
