Chapter 508: The Cursed Hospital (Part 6)
Chapter 508: The Cursed Hospital (Part 6)
After accepting three side quests, Feng Bu Jue lingered in Ward 216 for another five minutes.
During those five minutes, he checked the remaining hospital beds, confirming the other two were also empty. He even tried to coax information from Count Belmont and Viktor, but the two completely ignored him, continuing their argument instead. It seemed these Npcs wouldn’t offer any hints.
Then, Feng Bu Jue searched the four bedside cabinets in the room. Naturally, he couldn’t access those of Count Belmont and Viktor. However, he successfully found a peculiar Monster Kingdom Coin inside Harper Mr.’s cabinet.
After finishing his search, he finally opened the door and stepped back into the corridor.
“This scenario’s setting is pretty intense…” Feng Bu Jue muttered as he strolled leisurely, tossing the Monster Kingdom Coin in one hand. “Judging from this coin’s description… this isn’t the human world anymore…”
Name: Monster Kingdom Coin
Type: Plot-Related
Quality: Common
Function: Can be used to purchase items from the vending machine in the dining hall lobby
Can be taken out of the scenario
Background: The most common currency in the Monster Kingdom. Due to frequent exchange rate fluctuations and the persistent tradition of bartering, no specific denominations are printed. Additionally, since kings are often killed by heroes, adventurers, or their own relatives—and sometimes accidentally self-destruct—no royal portraits are engraved on the coins.
“Since it’s the Monster Kingdom…” Feng Bu Jue mused, “then I must be a monster here too, right?” He scratched his head. “But from what I’ve seen, Lester seems to be human. Could there be something unusual hidden under his clothes?”
This was a tricky matter. While other characters in the scenario saw Feng Bu Jue as Lester, he himself still appeared as Purple Long Suit. Moreover, even if he found a mirror, he couldn’t strip down to his bare chest. Thus, Lester’s true nature as a monster remained a mystery known only to the heavens.
“Wait…” A sudden thought struck Feng Bu Jue. “What about that Bandaged Man and Chad’s sister earlier?” He pondered, recalling the Bandaged Man’s question: “Do you fear me?” and his remark, “I’m a ghost—you know what that means.” Rubbing his chin, he mused, “Normally, this would mean a ‘living person’ should fear a ‘ghost.’” He frowned. “And regarding Chad’s sister, the system labeled her a ‘vengeful spirit’—also a ghost…”
Lost in thought, Feng Bu Jue turned another corner without realizing it.
“Huh? Could it be…” Feng Bu Jue shifted his perspective, suddenly understanding. “Ah! So… the meaning is probably this: In the Monster Kingdom, the term ‘monster’ functions the same as ‘human’ in our world. Here, ‘ghosts’ are also terrifying entities…” He spoke as if unraveling a tongue-twister. “In short… this scenario is just a haunted hospital set in the Monster Kingdom.”
As he reached this conclusion, he turned the corner ahead.
Just as he did, a figure approached from the opposite direction.
“Hi~Lester~” A nurse appeared before Feng Bu Jue, her voice sultry as she greeted him.
She wore a white nurse uniform with a low-cut collar and a short skirt, paired with white thigh-high stockings. Her figure was stunning—ample cleavage, a slender waist, and legs that invited imagination.
Yet… her head was insect-like.
Her head, neck, and above were replaced by a giant mosquito’s head—a pair of large, protruding compound eyes, and a drooping proboscis from what should’ve been her nose and mouth. Her speech buzzed with a distinct hum…
And the most bizarre detail? Her head lacked antennae but instead bore a burning spiral mosquito coil atop it, slowly emitting smoke.
“Jenny…” Feng Bu Jue checked her name tag. Nodding, he sidestepped past her and briskly walked away. “Goodnight.”
“Eh? What’s wrong?” Jenny turned, her buzzing voice questioning. “Why are you running away when you see me?”
“How do I answer this…” Feng Bu Jue thought, though he politely replied, “Nothing really, just some things to attend to.”
“Oho~” Jenny placed a hand on Feng Bu Jue’s shoulder, leaning in. “What kind of things?” Her voice turned seductive. “Could it be… what we did in the storage room on the third floor two nights ago?”
“Lester’s got it all going on… in every sense!” Feng Bu Jue mentally screamed, replying with a straight face, “Heh… I really do have work.”
“Tsk…” Jenny huffed, her compound eyes simultaneously rolling in unison—a grotesquely synchronized glare. “Pretending to be righteous…” She waved her hand dismissively, her shapely hips swaying as she turned and walked away, her departure as graceful as her entrance had been.
Feng Bu Jue internally raged: “What the hell… Are you seriously a nurse? Are you sure you’re not some cosplay hooker from a nightclub? The Monster Kingdom sure is open-minded! After playing Terrifying Paradise for so long, I finally meet a super-slutty Npc in a scenario… and she’s a mosquito?!”
……
After parting ways with Jenny, Feng Bu Jue continued forward using his memorized map. While the map wasn’t highly detailed, it was better than wandering aimlessly. He believed that searching areas marked with “gaps” on the map might lead to floor transitions. If that failed, he considered returning the way he came—spending a minute in Ward 216, then rushing back to the elevator at the scenario’s start to change floors.
After roughly five to six minutes of walking, Feng Bu Jue finally spotted a promising sight. Not far ahead, on the left wall, was a door. It was a dual sliding electronic door that opened sideways, resembling those in convenience stores. However, its orientation was horizontal—opening upward and downward instead of sideways.
Approaching the door, it automatically slid open. Beyond it lay a short corridor ending in a T-junction three meters ahead.
“If gravity shifts…” Feng Bu Jue muttered as he lay down.
He sat on the ground, crawled forward until his body aligned with the door’s edge, then lay flat. Positioning his feet toward the door, he slowly extended them inward. As his legs entered, gravity shifted, and Feng Bu Jue “fell” through the door, his feet guiding his descent.
Thanks to his adjusted posture, he landed on his feet. Though lacking equipment and skills, and with average physical stats, a drop of two or three meters wouldn’t kill him (unless head-first).
The impact was softer than expected. Feng Bu Jue immediately realized: Lester, being a monster, likely had superior physical capabilities compared to ordinary humans. The elevation shift during floor transitions was well within his tolerance.
“This is…” Feng Bu Jue scanned his surroundings after landing. Judging from the nearby room numbers, he was now on the first floor.
He couldn’t confirm the exact locations of the dining hall or Blood Bank, but the Pediatrics Emergency Consultation Room was definitely on the first floor—stated explicitly in the task bar. At least one side quest could be completed here.
Moreover, Count Belmont and Viktor used the phrases “on the way” and “while I’m at it,” suggesting the dining hall and Blood Bank were likely on this floor.
“The corridor doesn’t look different from the second floor…” Feng Bu Jue chose a direction and started walking. “Come to think of it… I’ve been walking for quite a while since leaving Ward 216, but Chad hasn’t appeared yet…” He recalled earlier system prompts. “So… as long as I keep moving, I won’t trigger pursuit and assassination?” He quickly dismissed his own guess. “No… if that were true, I could just pace endlessly in the corridor to clear the game.” As he pondered, another corner loomed ahead.
“Therefore… let’s assume the criteria is ‘passive play,’” Feng Bu Jue continued. “This scenario’s main quest grants players high freedom, so the game uses the tangible monster ‘Nurse Chad’ to replace passive play penalties.” He licked his lips. “The terrain here is complex, and I’m unfamiliar with the environment. If I trigger Chad’s pursuit and end up trapped in a dead-end with no nearby doors, I’m dead for sure.” He quickened his pace slightly. “Full of dangers… understanding the rules will likely require sacrifices. Better safe than sorry—it’s nightmare mode, after all.”
As he walked, sudden consecutive noises echoed.
Clang clang clang—clang clang clang—
The sound came from a room marked Room 109 on the right front side. It sounded like someone striking a metal object.
“Another scare tactic?” Feng Bu Jue wondered. “Or… some triggered event?”
Clang clang clang clang clang—
As Feng Bu Jue approached, the noise grew more frantic. By the time he reached the door, it was nearly deafening.
“Hmm… smells like a classic ‘open-the-door-and-get-smeared-across-the-wall’ scenario…” Feng Bu Jue calmly mused while standing before Room 109.
It was an unlocked sliding door—easily pushed open, which made it highly suspicious.
Generally, in horror puzzle-solving games, encountering a clearly ominous room is a cue to avoid rushing in. Instead, one should search nearby areas for clues or items to avoid instant-death plots.
However, Terrifying Paradise is a game full of malice. The system is fair in some aspects but utterly unreasonable in others.
This door was likely a classic horror trap.
Feng Bu Jue opening it might trigger a jump-scare, but turning away could also lead to death…
“No hints, no clues…” Feng Bu Jue muttered. “Pure gambling…” He paused. “No, this is testing the player’s courage.”
With that thought, he stepped forward and pushed the door open.
“Ahh!”
A piercing scream.
A terrifying, pale ghostly face flew at him from close range.
A simple yet effective scare tactic, predictable yet always effective.
Unfortunately, it had no effect on Feng Bu Jue.
“As expected…” Feng Bu Jue’s face remained calm, even slightly disappointed.
After the scream and visuals faded, the clanging sounds ceased, and silence returned.
Feng Bu Jue stepped inside, scanning the room’s environment.
Room 109 was small—barely ten square meters. It was cluttered with miscellaneous items, mostly immovable decorations. However, in a corner rack stood a glaring, obvious object—a treasure chest.
Feng Bu Jue rushed to the chest in three swift strides. The “unlock interface” promptly appeared.
