Chapter 508: Fiendfyre? Fiendfyre!
Chapter 508: Fiendfyre? Fiendfyre!
With this in mind, Ivan no longer hesitated. He followed the method described in the book and channeled his destructive and destructive emotions into a flame!
To Ivan’s slight surprise, it was easier than he had expected. As the reinforced Runic Inscriptions on his wand lit up one by one, a terrifying magical fire drifted out of the tip of his wand and quickly expanded.
“Reducto! (Sectumsempra)!” Sirius Black swung his wand, sending a few Inferi flying who had tried to get closer. He panted heavily, watching as the Inferi, missing limbs and even heads, slowly got back up from the ground.
This wasn’t going to work. Just as Sirius Black was getting anxious, he suddenly felt a burst of light behind him.
He turned his head and saw a large swath of crimson flame sweep past him, striking a group of Inferi directly and exploding!
Like a rain of fire, the Fiendfyre quickly spread, igniting the Inferi and turning them into human torches!
The numerous Inferi had no resistance against the Fiendfyre. Instead, they became the best fuel, intensifying the flames. Soon, the small sparks had spread into a sea of fire.
A large amount of Fiendfyre spontaneously gathered and formed the shape of a Phoenix, which let out a series of chirps, sounding like the sizzling of the Inferi being burned.
“Is this Fiendfyre?” Sirius Black immediately recognized it. Back in the days when he fought against the Death Eaters, he had dealt with this flame more than once.
Because of this, Sirius Black looked at Ivan with a mix of shock and suspicion, not understanding why Ivan would use such dangerous magic.
“I came across it while researching Horcruxes. I didn’t expect it to come in handy now!” Ivan explained casually, his tone unusually relaxed. The Inferi surrounding him no longer posed a threat.
Ivan lightly waved his wand, and the Fiendfyre Phoenix followed his movements, flapping its wings and surging toward the large group of Inferi behind him.
The Inferi, who feared the flames, showed twisted, terrified expressions. However, they had no time to escape and collided head-on with the Fiendfyre Phoenix.
The sizzling sound of roasting meat echoed by the lake, which was now engulfed in flames. The Inferi, as if thrown into a furnace, were covered in flames that were hot enough to burn their souls.
When the Fiendfyre Phoenix swept past, hundreds of Inferi, burning and screaming, fell to the ground, only to be consumed entirely by the Fiendfyre.
Sirius Black watched all this with a serious expression, showing no signs of joy. He looked at Ivan solemnly and warned him.
“Fiendfyre is a very dangerous and easily uncontrollable form of Dark Magic. You should avoid using it if you can. I once saw a Dark Wizard die from the backlash of his own Fiendfyre. This is why it is classified as an advanced form of Dark Magic!”
Learning Fiendfyre from a single reading suggested that Ivan had a high talent for Dark Magic, and Sirius Black was worried that Ivan would become enamored with its powerful destructive force.
Ivan’s expression grew more serious. Although he didn’t respond, he had already realized during the process of commanding the Fiendfyre to destroy the Inferi that it was not as docile and compliant as other magic. Instead, it was exceptionally volatile.
After consuming hundreds of Inferi, the Fiendfyre Phoenix had grown to over ten meters in length. Without Ivan’s command, it split into smaller Phoenixes that attacked nearby Inferi, continually growing in size.
Ivan had used Fiendfyre before, but that was with the help of a magical item, and the Fiendfyre he summoned back then never had the chance to grow to such an extent.
He wasn't sure if this was due to the enhanced Runic Inscriptions, but he wouldn't have been able to cast Fiendfyre in this place with its restrictions on flame and Magic without such an enhancement!
*Howl*
Just as Ivan struggled to control the Fiendfyre to prevent it from going out of hand, a deep, long wolf howl echoed from nearby.
"Great, it's Professor Lupin!" Ivan turned his head, his face lighting up with surprise and relief. They could finally leave.
Moments later, a tall werewolf with grayish-black fur sprinted over from the left side that hadn't yet been engulfed by the Fiendfyre.
A few mindless Inferi tried to block his path but were swatted away like rolling gourds, tumbling across the ground and failing to get back up for a long while.
The tall werewolf paid no attention to these Inferi. With a few high leaps, he reached the two of them. His gaze swept over Regulus, who was being carried by Sirius Black, and his mouth, full of sharp teeth, opened and closed as he spoke.
"Looks like your mission went smoothly?"
"Yeah, but it was a bit tougher than you might think!" Ivan shrugged, his tone tinged with exasperation.
"Wait, Lupin?! How did you turn into a werewolf? I thought today wasn't a full moon?" Sirius Black was very surprised. This was the first time he had heard that werewolves could transform when it wasn't a full moon.
"You'll have to ask Ivan. I don't know the exact reason myself." Lupin was just as puzzled. He had followed the instructions, drank the potion, and tried to transform, and it had worked, allowing him to maintain his sanity.
Sirius Black turned his curious gaze to Ivan.
"I don't think now is the time for chatting. We should leave as quickly as possible!" Ivan didn't answer but instead looked at the increasingly massive Fiendfyre Phoenix.
After devouring thousands of Inferi, the Fiendfyre Phoenix had grown to several dozen meters in length, continuously splitting into more flames that spread out uncontrollably.
What worried Ivan even more was that the nearby Inferi had been reduced to ashes, and more were hiding in the lake, fearing the flames. It seemed there was nothing left to burn in the vicinity except for them.
"Where's Dobby?" Ivan looked around anxiously.
"Dobby, Dobby is here, sir!"
As Ivan spoke, a green-skinned House-Elf panted and ran out from behind Lupin. It was clear that trying to keep up with a werewolf on its short legs was no easy task.
"You're safe, that's a relief!" Ivan sighed, and as his focus relaxed, his control over the Fiendfyre weakened further.
A large wave of flames had already spread toward them, surrounding them in the middle.
Ivan quickly ordered Dobby to teleport him and Lupin, while Sirius Black and Regulus would be taken by Kreacher.
"Don't hesitate, let's go!" Ivan grabbed Dobby and then Lupin's wolf paw, while Kreacher and Sirius Black prepared themselves on the other side.
As the fire drew closer, the two House-Elves almost simultaneously initiated Apparition, and two vortexes swept everyone away.
The moment Ivan disappeared, the Fiendfyre Phoenix completely lost control, bursting into a vast sea of flames that consumed everything around it.
