Chapter 508: Adventure
Chapter 508: Adventure (Additional Chapter for Yang Feiyang)
On the evening following the Tournament, the Gryffindor students held a celebratory Dinner Party in their Common Room. Even though the Weasley Twins had already graduated and left the School, their mischievous spirit continued to thrive among the Gryffindors. Despite the tense situation outside, the tables in the Common Room were still piled high with an abundance of snacks, and there were dozens of Butterbeer bottles.
"Where did you get all of this from?" Liam picked up a Butterbeer bottle and asked Cormac Mclaggen, who had provided the supplies for today's party. "I remember the situation outside is quite tense, and the secret passages that used to lead out of the castle should no longer be usable."
Mclaggen was pleased that someone had asked him about this. He puffed out his chest proudly and said, "That's because I know a few Aurors who patrol the area. As long as I pay them for a drink, they're more than happy to help me bring these things from Hogsmeade."
"Thanks a lot", Liam said, not minding a bit of flattery. "Thanks to your help, today's Dinner Party is much more lively."
Soon, Liam found Hermione chatting with Ginny. After a while, Harry also walked over with a handful of snacks. "Ah, the students are so enthusiastic. I had a hard time squeezing out of the crowd."
"Where's my idiot brother?" Ginny asked, taking a Sugar Quill from Harry. "I didn't see him at the beginning of the celebration. I wonder where he's gone."
"Over there, isn't he?" Harry pointed to a corner where Ron and Lavender Brown were kissing in front of the entire Common Room. The surrounding students whistled and clapped.
"Looks like my big brother still needs a lot of practice with kissing", Ginny shrugged. "After all, besides our Aunt Muriel, he hasn't kissed any other girls."
Ron seems to be having a tough time, Liam thought. But at least it looks like he's finally turning things around.
The next day, during the break after class, Harry teased Ron. "How was it with Lavender yesterday? Liam and I saw you kissing her, and honestly, your technique was pretty bad. It looked like you were gnawing on her face."
"That was your doing, right? Liam wouldn't be that boring", Ron immediately knew what was going on. "My little sister must have told you about my past. It sounds pretty silly, but I've found that being in love feels great."
Seeing Harry's stunned expression, Ron looked a bit nervous. "I mean, Liam and Hermione are together, and you and my little sister are together. Standing there alone always felt strange. Now that I've found Lavender, she's a good girl, and I'm very happy with her."
"So, brother, congratulations on finding someone you like!" Harry patted Ron on the shoulder and then looked around. "But where are Liam and Hermione? I haven't been able to find them when they don't have classes this semester."
"I think they might be in the Alchemy Lab. A couple of days ago, Ginny told me that Hermione mentioned Liam got the key to the Hogwarts Alchemy Lab this semester, so they go there to research whenever they have free time", Ron relayed the information he had heard from Ginny.
"No wonder they're always together", Harry sighed. "I see. They're probably busy in the Laboratory. And a couple of days ago, Sirius Black mentioned in a letter that the Order of the Phoenix members recently acquired some useful alchemical devices. I guess that's what they've been working on lately."
Harry and Ron's guesses were mostly correct, but they were completely wrong about what Liam and the others were doing. Liam, Hermione, and Rose Crystal were standing in a small alley in a foreign land. They had already absorbed most of their gains from other worlds, and they had no classes that afternoon. After finishing their morning classes, Liam suggested they embark on a journey to a new world.
After class, they quickly left the castle and ventured deeper into the Forbidden Forest, ensuring no one had noticed them before heading straight to the Multiverse General Store. Liam then spent 64 Deviation Points to open a new world. After crossing the Portal, they found themselves in a dirty alley.
"Ha, finally, we can see people right away", Rose Crystal, invisibly floating beside Liam, said happily. "In the past, whenever we entered a new world, we'd either end up in a bush or a forest, and it would take half a day just to find someone."
"But the problem is, there are too many people here now. It might not be easy to find the person we're looking for", Liam said, sounding a bit frustrated. "By the way, does anyone know where we are?"
"Cairo, and it's the late 19th to early 20th century Cairo", Rose Crystal said after floating up about five meters to survey the surroundings before descending back to Liam.
"How do you know that?" Hermione was surprised, as determining the location and era of a new place in such a short time wasn't an easy task.
"It's simple!" Rose Crystal floated in front of Hermione. "I saw a large river running through the city to the west, and in the distance, there are three huge Pyramids. So, the city we're standing in must be Cairo. As for the time, the vintage cars on the streets give it away."
"Sounds good", Liam praised Rose Crystal. At this point, he could tell this was likely a world related to ancient Egypt, though he wasn't sure which specific one. However, any world involving Egypt would inevitably involve Mummies, which meant they could gather a lot of knowledge related to death. This would be very helpful for Hermione in understanding the Death Laws she had.
"So, where do we go first?" Hermione asked. "This is a huge city, and finding what we need won't be easy."
"Right, so I think we should start by looking for a nearby Library or Museum. Since this is Egypt, the best things are likely from ancient times, not modern."
Liam and Hermione then walked out onto the street. Fortunately, due to local customs, they were able to wear hoods and robes without drawing much attention. Through inquiries and exploration, they learned that it was 1923 and found the location of the Cairo Historical Museum, the largest in the area.
"I think we can find what we're looking for in the Museum", Hermione said after discovering the current year. "Historically, this is the year when Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in February. If we go to the Museum, we'll see a lot of interesting things."
"We have plenty of time to take our time", Liam said. "If you want, we can also visit the Valley of the Kings. Since we went to all this trouble to come here, I'll make sure we see everything you want to see." Liam took Hermione's arm as he spoke.
After walking a short distance west, they arrived at the Nile. The Nile, shimmering under the sunlight, flowed like a golden ribbon. Following the river, they soon saw the Cairo Historical Museum. The Museum was massive, with a building designed in the Victorian era's neo-Roman style, looking grand and imposing.
As they entered the Museum, Liam and Hermione saw two large statues of ancient Egyptian soldiers flanking the entrance. Unlike the replicas found in later times, these statues were genuine antiques, immediately elevating the Museum's status.
Despite the Museum's opulent appearance, Liam noticed very few people inside. It made sense; it was the 1920s, and in a semi-colonial country like Egypt, few people had the means or leisure to visit such places. Moreover, this was a time of conflict between Egypt and Britain, with many areas experiencing violence, which further reduced the number of visitors.
This worked to Liam and Hermione's advantage, so they held hands and walked into the Museum.
