Chapter 506: The Troublesome Members of the Sage Family
Chapter 506: The Troublesome Members of the Sage Family
Boom!
The sky continued to rumble with thunder, not because the battle was still ongoing, but as Sage vanished, the dark clouds that had endured relentless lightning strikes and gale-force winds finally unleashed a torrential downpour.
Perhaps it was because the heavens knew that Sage had escaped the perils of combat, and so, a natural disaster unfolded, determined to make Sage feel the threat of danger.
"You're acting like a madman!"
In response, Sage merely flipped the sky off with his middle finger and cursed.
As the heavy rain fell, the surrounding flames were extinguished, and Lily and the others rushed over at that moment.
Reneetia spoke first, "Sage, did you blast him to bits?"
"It's not that easy," Sage shook his head. "That guy may have been on the receiving end the whole time, but he would occasionally strike back, which was extremely annoying. Despite his formidable strength, his fighting style was very awkward. Those who live long lives are the most troublesome."
In Sage's opinion, Satan's strength was not weak; at the very least, he was on par with Fujitora and Ryokugyu, and perhaps even a bit stronger. He was undoubtedly a formidable force on the high seas.
However, fighting against this guy was incredibly frustrating, and at one point, Sage even felt a bit stifled.
Their combat methods and styles differed.
There were several types of fighting styles on the high seas.
But essentially, they fell into two categories: those who sought to end battles with a single strike, relying solely on their strength to act as they pleased, and those who fought with a more measured approach.
Among the Four Emperors, Sage, Big Mom, and Kaido were undoubtedly the latter.
Even the foolish Teach had a touch of this reckless fighting style.
They all fought with a 'grab the fruit and beat them with a stick' approach.
Regardless of its effectiveness, they would strike with every move, countering each attack or simply engaging in a brute force exchange, occasionally mixing in moves that seemed overly flashy to the average person.
For example, they would use Haki blasts even when they weren't very effective.
Or they would unleash ordinary Homies or mythical creature abilities, even when they were useless.
This approach might seem inefficient, but it perfectly aligned with their inner recklessness, allowing their will to run wild in battle as they relied on their robust physiques and diverse combat techniques to act as they pleased.
On the other hand, those like Red-Haired Shanks preferred to end battles with a single decisive strike, seeking the most efficient way to finish off their opponents with a single blow. Their fighting style tended to be all-or-nothing, either not engaging at all or going all out.
Although efficient, Sage didn't appreciate this style.
What could Red-Haired Shanks do? Just that one move, 'God Avoidance'?
He would swing his sword a few times, with barely any techniques, and if he didn't aim for a quick victory, what else could he do? These pirates who only knew a simple move or two were easily dealt with in a single attack, unlike those who had developed a myriad of techniques and abilities, who had countless tricks up their sleeves.
After all, they had captured so many Homies and developed so many techniques; were they just for show?
Satan, on the other hand, was similar to Red-Haired Shanks in that regard, but he was even more cunning and devious. He didn't care about aura or style; he waited for the perfect opportunity to strike with maximum efficiency.
Especially with his ability to create and regenerate, as long as he found the right opening, his attacks rarely failed to have an effect.
Sage had experienced this firsthand, having endured a few blows that seemed more humiliating than damaging.
The ability to explode someone's head with a glare wasn't used at will; instead, it was unleashed during Sage's attacks, creating a gap that Satan exploited with remarkable skill, even though he still couldn't block the attacks.
His venomous aura, combined with his sharp spider legs and Haki, had managed to carve out a chunk of flesh from Sage's ribs during the fight.
Although it had no effect on someone of Sage's caliber, it would certainly put others at a disadvantage.
"Did he escape?" Lily scanned the area and frowned. "Sage, that Council of Five guy seemed similar to you, didn't he?"
She could see clearly that Sage's attacks had been effective, but Satan's terrifying regenerative ability was even stronger than Sage's.
"It doesn't seem like Life Return," Marika added. "Is it the power of his ability? He seems like a legendary creature, like a phoenix."
Upon hearing Marika's words, Lily's eyes flickered with a hint of unease, and she unconsciously tightened her grip on the hilt of her sword.
"Don't even think about it. We don't know if it's his ability or not," Sage glanced at Lily, reached into his cloak, and took out a cigar box. He took a cigar, and Lily immediately lit it for him.
"Huff," he exhaled smoke and said, "His aura also disappeared. Did some ability cause him to leave?"
"That's right," a voice suddenly spoke up from the side.
Lucci approached from a nearby battle ruin and said, "Satan Saint has returned to Mary Geoise using a magic array."
"Oh? That's quite convenient. A timely teleportation ability," Sage looked at him. "Is it possible for me to obtain it?"
"I'm not sure," Lucci shook his head. "But this is the power I seek, Sage."
In his eyes, there was a powerful ambition beyond bloodlust.
"The Dragon People are the deities of this world, and there's a reason for that. This immortality, it can be replicated!"
Ever since witnessing Sage kill a Dragon Person in Shabondy, Lucci's peculiar delight grew at a disturbingly rapid pace.
If his initial agreement to join CP Zero was to seek revenge on Spandam in his own way and an unconscious desire to advance further after being an agent for so long, then his current motivation for remaining in CP Zero is purely for that power! He had never been particularly superstitious about the Dragon People, and after following Sage, he completely eradicated any reverence for them in his heart. Even after learning the true strength of the Council of Five while in CP Zero, he no longer felt awe.
Because Sage is stronger.
Even now, the Council of Five still has no means to deal with Sage.
But that power is real, and based on the deliberately collected clues, this immortality doesn't even require one to be a Dragon Person.
To become stronger in this vast ocean, relying solely on one's own power is likely insufficient.
Even now, after his awakening, the gap between him and Sage remains like an uncrossable chasm.
However, obtaining immortality might be another shortcut.
"You really have the ambition to become that kind of being. Be careful; if you give up your will and become weak for this, I'll have Kakku and Gabura take your place." Sage chuckled.
Shortcuts always come with a price. Some people, upon consuming a fruit, automatically abandon the cultivation of Tyrannical Will. This higher level of immortality might cause one to metamorphose into something else.
"This matter is a long journey, but at least I have a goal. I'm not thinking of taking a shortcut to the top."
"By the way," Lucci said, "the higher-ups sent a message asking you to tone it down during the World Conference. Otherwise, they'll eliminate you as an 'unstable factor' first."
"Cut the crap. You came here to fight me just to say that? So, does immortality make you invincible? I don't believe it. Next time we meet, I'll cut him into sixteen pieces, stuff him in cement, and sink him into the sea! Let's see how he regenerates and teleports then!" Sage huffed.
"Also, I'm a damn Pirate. I do as I please!"
Lucci nodded, indicating his understanding, and then retreated.
He didn't teleport; if he wanted to withdraw, he needed to leave on his own.
Watching Lucci leave, Sage clicked his tongue, exhaled a puff of smoke from his cigar, and said, "Immortality and teleportation, this ocean is full of freaks."
"You're one of them, Sage."
Reneetia pouted, "You old Sages, one more troublesome than the other."
"Old Sages?" Sage looked over.
"Yeah."
Reneetia counted on her fingers, "The Council of Five, they're Dragon People, right? One of them is called Satan. I know the Navy's Marshal is Sakazuki, and on the Pirate side, there's you, Sage. Except for the Revolutionaries, you've pretty much covered them all."
Marika smiled lightly, "And they're from different categories—Natural, Animal, and Superhuman, each occupying one."
Sage: "..."
"What the hell."
...
Mary Geoise.
The Realm of Power.
The black pentagram magic array lit up, manifesting Norton Sage, who leaned on a cane in one hand as he stepped out of the array. Inside the hall, the other four members of the Council of Five struck poses, seemingly waiting for him to return to his position.
Shepherd Ten-Bit stood with his hands in his pockets, straight as a rod, and said indifferently, "For such a matter, I had to make a special trip to the lower realm. Norton Sage is a real pain."
Zambaron V Nasu-Suro, sitting on a single-seater sofa next to him, pushed up his glasses without saying a word.
This should have been his job, as he was the Financial Deity. But a mere Pirate wasn't worth his descent, and the Four Emperors were no different.
Sage spoke calmly, "Just a warning to make him understand our difference is best. It doesn't matter if he doesn't understand."
He extended a hand, and in his palm appeared a test tube-like glass container with a piece of flesh floating inside.
"I'm very interested in his body. Let me research it, and perhaps there'll be different results."
This was the primary reason for his descent as the Science Defense Deity.
In terms of true combat power, he might not defeat Sage, but combat power doesn't always correlate with strength. There are many ways to deal with people.
Their uniqueness made them worthy of an audience with the Four Emperors.
Secondly, the one Sage consumed was definitely not the Sun God, but his body showed no difference from the Sun God.
With the flesh, research would be easier.
