Chapter 506: Nothing Below
Chapter 506: Nothing Below
Tie Kaicheng's commentary on Mao Da's actions received unanimous agreement from Sun Xingyu and the Big Boss.
Even Chiu Er couldn't help but ask, "He abducted your wife, abandoned her, and yet you ask for his forgiveness and even thank him. What are you thinking? Why didn't you kill him just now?"
"Because I couldn't kill him," Mao Da replied calmly.
"Impossible!" Chiu Er exclaimed in anger. "Your sword was only three inches from the back of his neck. There's no one in this world who could survive that strike, especially with me standing in front of you..."
"But he is that impossible person," Mao Da shook his head. "Even if you and I attacked together, we couldn't harm him in the slightest."
"Impossible!" Chiu Er raged. "I know your skills, and you know mine. How could he possibly defend against our full-powered attack in the 'Heaven and Earth in Harmony' formation?"
"He could," Mao Da said gravely. "There's only one person in this world, and only one way."
Chiu Er's expression changed drastically as he finally recalled the person Mao Da often mentioned to him. Whenever this person was brought up, Mao Da's expression would become conflicted and complex.
"Shattering Heaven and Earth, Burning Heaven and Earth!" Chiu Er stared at Xie Xiaofeng, his eyes filled with disbelief. "Is he that person?"
Mao Da nodded, "He is!"
Chiu Er's face turned ashen, and he staggered backward, his acting as convincing as if it were real.
If it weren't for Tie Kaicheng's knowledge of the subsequent plot, he would never have doubted Chiu Er at this moment. He felt that Chiu Er's acting skills were even better than those of Jin Jiuling and Ye Gucheng.
Indeed, acting had nothing to do with strength.
Chiu Er's question led Mao Da to explain Xie Xiaofeng's identity, so he, too, was lost in recollection. "In my life, I have committed an unforgivable sin. If it weren't for him keeping my secret, I would have died long ago without a place to be buried."
Mao Da turned to Xie Xiaofeng, "This happened many years ago. Although I haven't seen him in recent years, and he has never given me a chance to speak, now..."
Mao Da murmured, and Xie Xiaofeng listened with his eyes closed.
Both of them were top masters, and they believed that no one would dare to make a move in front of them. However...
"Ding!"
A soft sound rang out, and a short dagger flew out, embedding itself in the beam of the hall. The little brother covered his wrist and looked at Tie Kaicheng in shock.
Mao Da turned abruptly, looking at the little brother in disbelief.
Chiu Er and Zhu Yeqing also looked toward the center, their eyes flickering.
Xie Xiaofeng frowned. The little brother's movement had been subtle, and he had been standing against the wall inside the house, not far from Mao Da. Even he hadn't noticed the little brother drawing his dagger.
"Don't interrupt me while I'm listening to a story." Tie Kaicheng glanced at the little brother. "I was just getting to the good part, and your interruption is very annoying. Do you understand?"
Mao Da glanced at the little brother, then at the dagger embedded in the roof, and the corners of his mouth twitched as a bitter smile appeared on his face. "Is this her intention?"
The little brother glared at Tie Kaicheng and then looked at Mao Da. "You shouldn't have said so much!"
Mao Da seemed to relax completely. "Does it matter how much I said?"
"Of course," the little brother said coldly. "Your ramblings are damaging the reputation of the Murong family. Don't you deserve to die?" His intentions were clear.
Xie Xiaofeng spun his head around.
"Who do you think he is, and why is he qualified to execute the Murong family's law?" Mr. Mao asked with a peculiar smile.
Xie Xiaofeng dared not guess.
But the little brother answered, "Because even though I am nameless and useless, I have a wonderful mother who knows you very well."
Xie Xiaofeng's face turned ashen.
The little brother gazed at him, a strange smile on his lips, "My mother is the eldest young miss of the renowned Murong family of Jiangnan, Mr. Mao's junior sister..."
Zhu Yeqing, who had been forgotten until now, couldn't help but interject, her eyes filled with curiosity as she scrutinized Xie Xiaofeng, "This young lady's name is Murong Qiudi."
Xie Xiaofeng felt a chill run down his spine, his hands and feet turning icy cold.
Chiu Er's gaze shifted between Xie Xiaofeng and Mr. Mao, his eyes darting uncertainly. He clenched his fists but restrained himself from taking action.
Despite the momentary lapse in concentration from Xie Xiaofeng and Mr. Mao, Chiu Er lacked the confidence to strike.
The little brother turned to Mr. Mao and then to Xie Xiaofeng, "My mother instructed me repeatedly that if anyone dared to spread slander and tarnish the Murong family's reputation, even if I didn't kill them, you wouldn't agree to it either. Moreover, Mr. Mao is a member of the Murong family. My actions are merely to uphold the family's honor on my mother's behalf."
Xie Xiaofeng clenched his fists tighter, unable to contain his anger, "When did your mother become the Murong family's enforcer?"
"Not long ago," the little brother replied.
Xie Xiaofeng asked again, "Why didn't she keep you by her side?"
The little brother sighed, "Because I am an illegitimate child with no right to enter the Murong family's doors. I can only depend on others and be a lowly little brother."
Xie Xiaofeng's face was deathly pale, and his eyes suddenly filled with pain. He asked, unable to stop himself, "How old are you this year?"
"I know this!" Sun Xingyu's eyes sparkled with excitement, as if she had discovered a new world. "He's only fifteen this year. The reason he looks older is that he's had a hard life!"
Xie Xiaofeng felt a buzzing in his ears, and his legs trembled.
Sun Xingyu turned to Tie Kaicheng and whispered, "Did I guess right?"
"Yes!" Tie Kaicheng nodded decisively. The situation was becoming clear.
Xie Xiaofeng stared at the little brother, his eyes filled with anguish. The little brother glared at Mr. Mao, his eyes burning with anger. Mr. Mao looked at Xie Xiaofeng, his eyes filled with guilt.
Tie Kaicheng asked Sun Xingyu, "Is this play interesting?"
"It is!" Sun Xingyu replied.
Tie Kaicheng said, "It's a pity that the other protagonist didn't make an appearance. Otherwise, it would have been even more exciting. At least it would be worth three peanuts."
The gazes of Xie Xiaofeng, the little brother, and Mr. Mao all shifted to Tie Kaicheng.
Oblivious, Tie Kaicheng asked Mr. Mao, "You only told half of it just now. What about the rest? Continue!"
However, Mr. Mao had no intention of continuing, "Didn't you hear? I'm a member of the Murong family. I can't further tarnish their reputation."
"What do you mean?" Tie Kaicheng was stunned. "Are you saying that's it?"
