Chapter 504: Lei He and the Calamity Treasures, A New Trial for Naoki's Ranch?
Chapter 504: Lei He and the Calamity Treasures, A New Trial for Naoki's Ranch?
Early the next morning, after feeding the Pokemon on the ranch, sending his bear apprentice off to class at the World Tree, and tending to other matters, Naoki sought out the four Treasures of Calamity, including the ancient stag and their companions.
"Let's go. I want to take you to a place to meet someone today," Naoki said.
"Moo?" The Ancient Stag turned its head, seemingly asking who this person was.
"Her?" Naoki smiled and replied, "She is Lei He. It's thanks to her that I was able to find you all."
"Gu Po." The Ancient Blade Panther took a step forward, indicating that they were indeed intrigued and willing to go.
"Alright then." Naoki took out their Poke Balls as the Pokemon agreed, "First, get into your Poke Balls. Goureiton will take us there together."
The Ancient Blade Panther nodded, and with a flash of red light, the four Treasures of Calamity were recalled into their Poke Balls.
Naoki pocketed the Poke Balls and turned to give instructions to the sibling duo of Ai Guanshi and her brother:
"Sis, I'm leaving the ranch in your care. I might not be back until afternoon. If Eevee and the others want to go to the World Tree, you don't need to prepare their lunch. Motos the Sandshrew and the Pidgeot will be coming with me, and Little Fugu, you mustn't wander off, understand?"
"Ai Yi~" The younger sister, Ai Guanshi, nodded gently.
Hearing this, Little Fugu egg, who was holding a bag full of Poke Balls, happily nodded its agreement. "Ku Ku!"
After yesterday's ranch tour, Naoki had given it so many spherical Poke Balls, and Little Fugu egg was overjoyed. It immediately imitated Jigglypuff, storing all the Poke Balls in the bag in front of it.
There were so many that the bag was almost full.
Pokemon have simple emotions; they will like you if you treat them well.
Especially a Pokemon like Little Fugu egg, who is inherently pure and innocent.
After receiving so many Poke Balls, it grew even fonder of Naoki!
Naoki helplessly rubbed his forehead, thinking that perhaps things would get better once Little Fugu evolved into a Lucky Egg that could lay its own eggs.
"Well then, we should be off. See you in the afternoon!"
Naoki waved to the group of Pokemon and then mounted his Goureiton, ready to depart the ranch.
The ground beneath them gradually receded, and the ranch became a tiny speck in the distance as the wind whistled past their ears.
Goureiton soared over cities and fields, finally arriving at Tabletop City before ten in the morning.
The streets of Tabletop City bustled with people—students and tourists from all over the world converged in this metropolis steeped in history and culture.
As there were no flying restrictions over the city, trainers riding their flying Pokemon could be seen entering from time to time.
Naoki looked down and finally landed in the spacious square in front of the gates of the Padia Academy.
Lei He had been waiting there for a while.
Her sharp eyes, honed from years of tomb raiding, easily spotted Naoki and Goureiton in the crowd.
"Here! Over here!" Lei He waved her arms.
"Ah Ga Shi?"
Hearing the voice, Goureiton looked up and then brought Naoki to Lei He's side.
"Long time no see, Miss Lei He!" Naoki greeted her.
"Yes, it has been a while," Lei He said, looking around eagerly. "So, you've brought all four of the Calamity Treasures?"
"Of course," Naoki confirmed.
"Then let's go to my place first!" Lei He turned and led the way. "Follow me!"
The two passed through the massive gates of Padia Academy and entered a grand hall filled with bookshelves.
The floor was laid with striped tiles, and the corners were furnished with sofas and round tables, creating a comfortable space for students to rest and read.
The hall had multiple levels, each filled with countless bookshelves and books. Students in uniforms and their Pokemon moved between the shelves, browsing the vast collection.
"It's almost exactly like the game!" Naoki thought to himself as he took in the familiar surroundings.
Lei He's voice suddenly piped up, "If you want to tour Padia Academy, I can show you around later. But for now, come with me quickly so I can take a look at those four Pokemon!"
Naoki: "..."
It was clear that Lei He's obsession with the four Treasures of Calamity hadn't diminished at all.
He let out a sigh and reluctantly followed her, knowing that she was eager to see them.
With Lei He leading the way, they soon reached an empty classroom.
Lei He was about to speak when she saw Naoki take out the four Poke Balls on his own initiative.
Four beams of white light shone as the four treasures that Lei He had longed for appeared before her very eyes.
The Ancient Stag, the Ancient Blade Panther, the Ancient Jade Fish, and the Ancient Scroll Snail...
"Wow!" Lei He's eyes lit up. "You really did it!"
Naoki smiled faintly and introduced Lei He to the four Pokemon, "This is the person I mentioned before. It's thanks to her that I was able to find you all."
The bodies of the Pokemon froze.
"So this is the Ancient Stag? What a massive cauldron! Judging by its shape and size, this cauldron was likely not meant for daily use, but rather as a work of art...or perhaps it was used as a ceremonial vessel for offerings to the divine. Hmm, that's an intriguing question worth exploring."
Lei He took out her camera and snapped several pictures of the Ancient Stag, intending to study it at her leisure.
Next, she moved on to the Ancient Blade Panther.
The Ancient Blade Panther met her gaze with its icy blue and majestic eyes.
"Ancient Blade Panther..." Lei He mused, "So the hilt and blade of a sword form its teeth on either side? It looks like they're broken. I wonder if they broke when it became a Pokemon, or if they were like that from the start..."
"Hmm, no, wait, why would a king buy a broken sword? Or perhaps it was a weapon meant to be used in a broken state?"
This, too, was a question worth investigating.
"Click, click!"
Lei He captured the Ancient Blade Panther's appearance, especially the broken sword halves on either side of its mouth.
Then, she moved on to the Ancient Scroll Snail.
She gazed at the Ancient Scroll Snail's body, which was composed of wooden slips, and exclaimed in awe:
"With so many wooden slips connected together, it must be a lengthy epic!"
Straight Tree also became intrigued: "Do you mean that the Ancient Scroll Snail used to have some kind of records on its body?"
Lei He nodded: "Yes, it's a pity that the writing has become blurred and unclear...I wonder what kind of text intrigued the king back then."
Straight Tree looked at the Ancient Scroll Snail's body and indeed noticed some blurred and indecipherable writing.
It was clear that the writing had been inscribed intentionally, and even the Reversal Dish couldn't restore it.
Lastly, she turned her attention to the Ancient Jade Fish.
Lei He directed her gaze at the tiny fish Pokemon, its body enveloped in warm flames, and murmured:
"The jade pendant was considered sacred and was worn during rituals, often as a pendant around the neck. But the Ancient Jade Fish has four of them..."
"Were they worn as a pair for the ears and wrists, or were there four people performing the ritual...?"
"The jade pendant, once used for exorcism, what did it go through to be called a calamity...the mysteries run deep. Oh dear, my curiosity is piqued!"
Lei He excitedly snapped photos of the Ancient Jade Fish.
"With this, the investigation into the Calamity Treasures is complete!"
Lei He reviewed the photos on her camera and then turned to Straight Tree, saying:
"Although there are still some mysteries, I'll decipher them on my own from here on out! Thank you so much for your help, Straight Tree."
"You're welcome," Straight Tree replied, thinking that he had gained quite a bit from this trip as well.
Thanks to this journey, his ranch now housed four Pokemon that brought good fortune to humans—a profitable endeavor indeed.
Lei He smiled faintly, "To be honest, I originally wanted to investigate the Calamity Treasures myself and claim them as my own."
"But unfortunately, my obsession with them might not have been enough to lift the seals on the four shrines...It's thanks to your pure-heartedness that we were able to complete the investigation."
"Phew! Since that's the case, I'll entrust the treasures I've longed for to you from now on!"
Straight Tree was about to say something when a knock sounded on the classroom door.
Straight Tree was taken aback for a moment.
Then, he saw another Lei He walk in from outside the classroom.
Seeing this, a big question mark appeared over Straight Tree's head.
?
However, Lei He merely smiled and turned to the other "Lei He," asking, "Is class over? Did you manage to avoid being found out?"
The "Lei He" nodded, and a light flashed over its body.
In the next second, "Lei He" disappeared, replaced by a fox Pokemon with grayish-black fur and light blue irises.
Zorua!
Putting together what Lei He had just said, Straight Tree instantly understood what had been going on.
History teacher Lei He had transformed Zorua into her likeness and sent it to teach her class while she was away!
Straight Tree was stunned. Who knew you could do that?
"Can Zorua speak?" Straight Tree asked, voicing his question.
How could Zorua teach the class if it couldn't speak the human language?
Hearing this, both Lei He and Zorua looked at him.
"Of course not," Lei He replied, "but Zorua can create illusions and deceive others into thinking I was teaching the class. This ability is something I specifically trained Zorua for!"
Straight Tree: "..."
He could already imagine Lei He sending Zorua to teach her class while she sneaked out to go tomb-raiding.
"Are there rewards for winning the trial as well?" someone asked.
"Of course." Naoki nodded. He now had a lot of fruit wine stored up at home; even if five hundred people came, there would be enough.
But the prerequisite was for those five hundred people to actually be able to beat Miltank, and they had to figure out a way to counter its Super Roll move.
"Great! I'll give it a shot later!" someone exclaimed excitedly.
They had received information from some people that the rewards for the trials were mysterious gifts that would definitely help their Pokemon become stronger.
"Aside from Miltank, are there any other new trials?" another student asked.
Naoki was about to say no, but then he thought of the Ancient Stag, Ancient Jade Fish, and the others, as well as the bear apprentice currently training under Groudon and Kyogre, so he changed his answer:
"Of course, there are now two new trials at the ranch: the Martial Arts Trial and the Four Auspicious Beasts Trial. I'm always at the ranch, so feel free to come by and challenge them anytime!"
"Yes, we'll definitely be there!" the students replied in unison.
Naoki smiled and nodded. "When the time comes, I'll be sure to welcome you properly."
