Chapter 503: Falling Meteorites
Chapter 503: Falling Meteorites
In the Hero Association...
Within the central monitoring room, a holographic projection of a planet filled the air, displaying a vivid image of Earth in all its azure beauty. Above the planet, a cluster of fiery asteroids was visible, their trajectory unmistakably headed towards the planet. It was a meteor shower consisting of over ten massive asteroids!
The entire monitoring room was in chaos, with staff members frantically making calls to various branch offices and S-class heroes of the Hero Association.
"We don't have the impact site calculations yet?!" a manager of the Hero Association demanded anxiously, his eyes fixed on the projection.
"Just a moment!" came the hurried reply from a nearby staff member, their fingers flying across the keyboard. In front of them, a screen displayed rows of data and a three-dimensional virtual model.
Standing at the top of the monitoring room, a high-ranking member of the Hero Association gazed at the data in one corner of the massive three-dimensional projection, his expression grave. "This is an unprecedented God-level threat... Even the aftermath it generates is enough to be classified as a Dragon-level disaster."
This was the aftermath of the battle between Bald Emperor and One-Eye Emperor! Their clash many days ago had not only destroyed countless asteroids in the asteroid belt but also obliterated a meteor that the Hero Association had long ago targeted for destruction as it posed a threat to Earth.
However, the battle had also destabilized the asteroid belt.
These incoming meteorites, hurtling towards Earth, were just a small fraction of the asteroids disturbed by the battle's aftermath, and their trajectory just happened to intersect with Earth's orbit. Captured by Earth's gravity, they were now on a collision course with the planet.
At that moment, the constantly changing data on a staff member's screen finally stabilized, and a clear trajectory appeared on the 3D model.
"Report! We have calculated the exact impact site! It's City C!"
"Estimated time of impact is in thirty-seven minutes!"
"The disaster level is predicted to be Dragon! The entire City C will likely be completely destroyed!"
The staff member's voice echoed throughout the entire monitoring room.
Without hesitation, one of the Hero Association managers turned and shouted to the other side of the room, "Immediately send the location and time information to the S-class heroes!"
"Yes, sir!" came the prompt reply from several staff members.
Another manager nearby chimed in, "To stop a disaster of this magnitude, we should only need Bald Emperor, right? After all, this is something he caused."
"It's not that simple," a staff member whispered. "While Bald Emperor is incredibly powerful, the aftermath he creates can also cause significant destruction, no less than a typical disaster. And the number of falling meteorites this time is just too high. There's a good chance something unexpected will happen along the way."
Unlike the floating asteroids in the asteroid belt, these meteorites falling towards Earth were each carrying an immense amount of kinetic energy due to their high speed. Being in motion made them vastly different from being at rest!
The manager who had spoken earlier rubbed his forehead and sighed. "It's a pity Tornado isn't here. With her and Bald Emperor together, we could've minimized the disaster."
...
City C.
Unsure why she was listening to Feng Ye, Fubuki watched as he stood up and looked up at the sky, his expression unnatural.
She hesitated, wanting to say something but not quite knowing what. Just as she was about to speak, a blaring alarm suddenly sounded from the center of the city, reverberating in all directions.
"This is a message from the Hero Association to all citizens," a voice announced.
"There are currently fourteen massive meteorites falling towards Earth, with a projected impact site of City C. This disaster has been rated as Dragon-level. The Association has notified the heroes to halt its progress, and all citizens are advised to evacuate immediately."
"Repeating, there are currently a total of fourteen massive meteorites..."
The voice from the alarm caused the entire City C to fall into a brief silence, followed by an uproar of exclamations and screams. The sounds of vehicles crashing into buildings could be heard from all directions.
The swimmers in the pool wore looks of horror as they craned their necks to gaze at the sky. Faint specks of light were already visible at the edge of the azure blue sky!
"Meteorites?!"
"How is this possible...?"
Fubuki's expression froze, and she looked up at the sky, her eyes wide with shock.
Not far away, both Mayuzumi and Sanzang had broken out in cold sweats. After swallowing nervously, they turned to Fubuki and called out, "Lady Fubuki!"
"We need to get out of here, now!"
Meteorites!
A Dragon-level disaster!
Just the mention of it was enough to fill ordinary people with despair. Even B-Class heroes like them were no different from regular civilians in the face of such a calamity, and they would have to evacuate the city with everyone else.
Only S-Class heroes stood a chance against such a threat!
Fubuki was well aware of this, and she quickly snapped out of her daze, shouting, "Mayuzumi, Sanzang, go get the car ready! Leave immediately!"
"Yes!"
Mayuzumi replied and asked, "What about you, Lady Fubuki?"
Fubuki glanced at him and said in a low voice, "I'm much faster than your car. Don't wait for me; just go!"
The two heroes nodded and ran towards the exit.
Instead of leaving with them, Fubuki turned to Feng Ye, who stood beside her. She suddenly recalled how, when they had first arrived, Feng Ye had mentioned that a catastrophe would befall this city in about ten minutes. At the time, she had thought he was just making up an excuse to leave, but now it seemed that he might have been telling the truth!
As a B-Class hero, she wouldn't normally receive notifications from the Hero Association about Dragon-level threats and above. However, Feng Ye must have gotten advance notice from the Association!
"No wonder you mentioned a disaster coming in ten minutes earlier... But this is a disaster the Hero Association has classified as Dragon-level. Are you sure you want to try and stop it?" Fubuki asked, her expression serious as she looked at Feng Ye.
Solving a Demon-level disaster on one's own was usually enough to qualify as an S-Class hero. As for Dragon-level disasters, even among S-Class heroes, not everyone could handle them.
And meteorites? They were among the most troublesome of threats, especially with fourteen of them falling! This incident could very well be rated as a high Dragon-level disaster!
"You're interested, too?" Feng Ye glanced at Fubuki and smiled casually.
Fubuki's gaze remained stern as she said in a low voice, "This is beyond my capabilities. The Association will surely gather S-Class heroes to deal with it. And a Dragon-level disaster is out of your league as an A-Class hero as well..."
"But with your speed, you can leave at any time. You might as well stay and watch for a bit longer."
