Chapter 502: An Invitation and a Refusal
Chapter 502: An Invitation and a Refusal
At the Crown Hotel, in the open-air swimming pool area, a white flash zoomed by in the distance, followed by a gust of wind. Two figures appeared at the edge of the pool.
Feng Ye released his hand and casually strolled back to his chair. He picked up the half-finished glass of juice and drained it in one go.
In front of Feng Ye, Blizzardy stumbled a few steps before falling to the ground again. Her hair was in disarray, and her throat convulsed as she dry-heaved.
Blizzardy braced herself with her hands on the ground, feeling the world spin around her. It took her nearly half a minute to regain her composure.
She struggled to her feet, swaying unsteadily and looking extremely unwell. A hint of fear flashed in her eyes as she regarded Feng Ye.
"Lady Blizzardy!"
At that moment, shocked voices rang out from nearby.
Two figures, the second-ranked B-class hero, Eyelash, and the third-ranked B-class hero, Mountain Ape, clad in their swimsuits, rushed over and quickly arrived beside them.
They took in Blizzardy's dejected appearance, their eyes widening in shock. They exchanged a glance before turning their gazes toward Feng Ye, who was seated nearby.
"What did you do to Lady Blizzardy?!"
"Damn it..."
Both heroes glared at Feng Ye, seething with anger.
Eyelash brandished her weapon, a pair of eyelash curlers, her jaw clenched in fury as she prepared to attack.
But just then, Blizzardy, struggling to keep her balance, lifted her hand with difficulty and blocked her path. "Don't fight... Both of you, step back..."
Eyelash paused, exchanging a glance with Mountain Ape. After a moment's hesitation, they complied with Blizzardy's order and took a couple of steps back, positioning themselves behind her.
Blizzardy wobbled a few times before managing to walk over to the lounge chair next to Feng Ye and sit down. She placed a hand on her chest, breathing heavily as she tried to recover.
Feng Ye's consecutive uses of his power had taken a toll on her, and it would take some time for her to bounce back.
After closing her eyes for nearly a minute to regain her composure, Blizzardy opened her eyes and reached out. She took a glass of iced fruit juice from the passing waiter's tray.
Glug, glug!!
After downing the juice, she regained some of her bearings and took a breath. "I've never been able to be the best," she began, her voice steady. "Intellect, physical strength, keen insight... Despite having innate superpowers, I should have been the strongest. But because of her, I've never been able to claim the top spot. In everything, I fall short of her—my older sister, the most powerful psychic, Tornado!"
"So, when I became the top-ranked B-class hero, I made a decision. I resolved to remain in this position, leading the B-class heroes and surpassing my sister, who prefers to work alone."
At this point, Blizzardy turned to Feng Ye. "That's why, when I heard that someone had bypassed me to become an A-class hero, I came to assess your abilities personally. You indeed possess power beyond mine, and I won't hold a grudge for your earlier actions... But I assume you're not content with your current status. You want to climb higher, am I right?"
Feng Ye, leaning back in his lounge chair, regarded Blizzardy with a faint smile, listening to her without offering any response.
Blizzardy continued, despite Feng Ye's silence. "However, it's incredibly challenging to ascend solely through one's power. Although you are indeed a formidable anomaly, above you stands the top-ranked A-class hero, Sweet Mask, a genuine powerhouse among all A-class heroes!"
"And beyond him is the strongest on the surface, King, and the bald emperor who averted a god-level catastrophe. At the pinnacle of all heroes is Blast, whom you cannot surpass alone!"
Feng Ye listened patiently until Blizzardy finished, then casually smiled and asked, "So, what are you trying to say?"
Blizzardy's expression stiffened slightly at Feng Ye's refusal, and she let out a slight huff. "You're completely ungrateful. Despite forgiving your transgressions, I still invited you to join my Blizzardy Squad. You have no chance against King and those monsters by yourself."
"Perhaps," Feng Ye replied with a nonchalant smile. "To be honest, I'm not really interested in the hero rankings, nor do I have any interest in going up against King."
This man...
Blizzardy trailed off, her fist clenching as she felt a mix of anger and frustration. She pouted, unable to hide her disappointment. "Hey, you're a man, aren't you? How can you be so lacking in ambition? Why did you even become a hero then?"
Feng Ye's smile widened. "If I had to give a reason, I guess you could say it's for the thrill of it."
"Right."
Feng Ye turned to Blizzardy, his eyes gleaming with a faint azure light, and a seemingly ordinary smile playing on his lips. "My shoulders are a bit sore. Could I trouble you for a moment?"
"Huh? Ah... Y-yes..."
Blizzardy was taken aback for a moment before her gaze met Feng Ye's. She noticed the azure light flickering in his eyes, and for a brief moment, she felt a sense of haziness, as if she had just woken up from sleep.
In this dazed state, she stood there, feeling a bit lost, then walked behind Feng Ye and began to knead his shoulders.
Feng Ye closed his eyes, relishing the soothing massage on his shoulders and the sides of his head.
Not far away, the second-ranked B-class hero, Eyelash, and the third-ranked B-class hero, Mountain Ape, stood frozen, momentarily stunned by the scene unfolding before them.
What in the world is going on?!
Eyelash's mouth hung open, and after a few seconds of silence, she blurted out, "Blizzardy... Boss?!"
"Hmm?" Blizzardy responded, still a bit dazed as she continued kneading Feng Ye's shoulders.
As her consciousness gradually returned, she looked down at her hands and the motion they were making, a perplexed expression crossing her face.
Why did Feng Ye ask her to come and massage his shoulders, and why did she agree to it? She hadn't figured out what was going on, but her hands continued their motion for another two or three minutes before she finally stopped, feeling a bit stiff.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
Just then, Feng Ye stretched his body and got up from the lounge chair, craning his neck to look up at the sky.
"Hmm."
"It's about to start."
