Chapter 501: Changing Shifts
Chapter 501: Changing Shifts
Hmm... Hosting the envoy is such a troublesome task...
Unaware that the person he was hosting today had other intentions, the third prince of the Corlock Kingdom, Prince Andre, pushed open the door to his room, his body not feeling particularly weary after a full day's work.
"Brother Andre~"
As the door opened, a crisp voice called out from within.
The third prince narrowed his eyes and saw a beautiful girl with fair skin turning around from a large recliner by the window. With a hint of teasing, she said, "Weren't you supposed to be hosting Prince Leon? Why did you come back so soon? Don't tell me you got lazy and decided to skip out on the responsibilities early?"
"I didn't exactly run away."
Shaking his head calmly, Prince Andre stepped into the room, hanging up his coat as he replied, "My task was just to host the envoy. The rest isn't my concern. He can discuss matters with the Minister of Foreign Affairs himself. There's no point in me staying."
"So, you did run away early, didn't you?"
The girl, with her large emerald eyes, blinked and then giggled, "After learning that you took on the task of hosting the envoy, Mother was all smiles and told me that her most beloved son had finally grown up and would do a good job this time. But it seems like her relief came a bit too early~"
"It's fine."
Walking slowly to the window, Prince Andre stretched out and basked in the afternoon sun. Then, with a nonchalant tone, he said, "It's her fault for having such unrealistic expectations of me. Besides, the entire kingdom is now under the control of the Atephi offspring. Whether I put in the effort or not doesn't make much difference; the final outcome isn't worth mentioning... Shoo! Get up and move!"
Seeing that his sister had come over and was still occupying his recliner, Prince Andre grew impatient and shooed her away, "If you want to sunbathe, go back to your room. Stop taking my chair!"
"My room is on the other side, and the sun is almost gone over there!"
"Then go get another chair. There are guest armchairs over there!"
"No way!"
Grasping the armrests of the chair tightly, the girl, who seemed to be around thirteen or fourteen, shook her head vigorously, "Those hard chairs are no match for this comfy recliner. If you want to sit, go ahead! And move aside! You're blocking my sunbathing!"
Tsk... What a nuisance...
Seeing his sister stubbornly holding onto the armrests of the recliner, refusing to get up, Prince Andre couldn't help but click his tongue. With a resigned sigh, he fetched another chair and placed it on the balcony, sitting down and closing his eyes lazily.
The sunlight was just right.
The sun at four in the afternoon, though not as intense as before, still bathed the room in a warm, golden glow through the greenhouse glass. This warmth made one feel lazy and relaxed, even slowing down their breathing unconsciously.
Unfortunately, this peaceful break was short-lived, as it was soon interrupted again.
"Brother Andre~"
Just as Prince Andre, who had been working diligently for over two hours, was enjoying the afternoon sun, the girl on the recliner beside him suddenly shifted her bottom towards him and kicked his shin with her bare foot. With a curious look in her eyes, she asked, "What's Prince Leon like?"
Ugh... You're so annoying...
Glaring at his sister who had disturbed his rest, Prince Andre replied irritably, "A man."
"Speak properly!"
Unsatisfied with his evasive answer, the girl blinked her emerald eyes and pouted, "If you keep answering like that, I'll keep bothering you! From now on, I'll come here every afternoon when the sun is at its best and take your chair!"
"..."
What a nuisance...
Understanding that his sister was capable of doing as she said, Prince Andre sighed. If he didn't appease her, his future would be far from peaceful. With a resigned tone, he explained, "He's a peculiar man. Despite having a weak country backing him, his actions are surprisingly assertive. Moreover, he seems to harbor strong ill-will towards the entire Corlock Kingdom.
"Huh? You mean he hates me?"
The pretty girl seemed startled by this response, and a hint of grievance crept into her voice. "I've never met him before, and I certainly haven't done anything to him. Why would he hate me?"
"Can't you understand what I'm saying?" Prince Andre couldn't help but roll his eyes at her words.
"I'm saying he bears ill-will towards the entire Corlock Kingdom, not just a personal hatred for someone!"
"But that's the same thing~"
Upon hearing this, the pretty girl tilted her head, then caressed the Snowy Owl mask placed on the lounge chair, her large eyes blinking as she spoke with a playful tone.
"Well, right now, I am the entire Corlock Kingdom, aren't I?"
"Hmm..."
After listening to the pretty girl, Prince Andre paused for a moment, then nodded. "That's not wrong... Anyway, the feeling I get from him is different from those people from the Aleron Kingdom.
The Purifiers from the Aleron Kingdom, although they were constantly up to something behind the scenes, were still very cautious on the surface, fearing that any out-of-line action would directly attract our attention.
But this guy is really strange. He should be careful since he took on the investigation task from the Purification Bureau, but he seems to not care at all. He's very high-profile in his words and actions.
From the time he got off the airship until now, I've had people cause him trouble twice, but he doesn't even hesitate to push back. I always feel like he's just waiting for a chance to stir up some trouble."
"Oh, so he's really a strange one."
The pretty girl nodded in agreement, then, with her slender fingers like green onions, she lightly tapped the wooden Snowy Owl mask twice before suggesting with interest: "Brother Andre, since you don't want to do the hosting, why don't I go and entertain him tomorrow on your behalf?"
You want me to go in your place?
Hearing the pretty girl's words, Prince Andre couldn't help but frown, then turned his head to remind her, "Atephi, human behavior is hard to predict. I don't know if he'll hurt you, and your body was just made not long ago. Be careful he doesn't break it."
"It's fine. If it breaks, we can just make another one!"
The pretty girl blinked her emerald eyes, then, counting on her fingers with a playful smile, she said, "Making a human isn't that hard. It's about sixty-five percent oxygen, eighteen percent carbon, three percent nitrogen, and one and a half percent calcium.
Although some materials are hard to extract, once you understand the composition of humans and add in those unique anomalies, making a human body is quite simple."
"...
"Speaking of which, I have to thank Director Aquarius for the weight he provided. If not for the knowledge contained in that weight, I don't know how long it would've taken me to get a body~"
The pretty girl stretched lazily, then left the lounge chair and walked to the window, gazing in the direction of District 3 next door. Her emerald eyes were full of anticipation as she spoke.
"I remember Director Aquarius mentioning that the knowledge in that weight seemed to be from Prince Lyon. So, I've been wanting to meet him for a very long time!"
