Chapter 500: How Are You Ever Going to Set Sail?
Chapter 500: How Are You Ever Going to Set Sail?
A Devil Fruit's power alone could reshape the world.
But if Sazil, the most likely candidate, refused it, no one else would take it seriously.
Ju Geng had no interest, and Fen Ni dismissed it as irrelevant—amplifying the serum was a dosage issue she could handle herself.
Kuro could only have Klah store the Devil Fruit away for display. Whoever wanted it later could just take it.
Normally, he’d scold his subordinates, but those he personally recruited were treated like family. Almost all of them, anyway.
Except Kas!
Right. Except Kas!
The warship pressed on, sailing through the Grand Line and into the Calm Belt.
Amazon Lily lay within the Calm Belt, near the South Blue. As a legitimate Seven Warlords of the Sea, their raiding grounds spanned the first half of the Grand Line and the South Blue.
As residents surviving in the Calm Belt, limited by the Sea Kings there, they were naturally stronger than most. After all, the weak couldn’t survive here.
"Hey, Kuro! That direction—there’s a powerful aura!"
Lida pointed toward a nearby island from the deck. The sea was calm, but rain poured over the small island.
"A magnetic field altering weather irregularly?" Kuro muttered, his eyes flashing red as Observation Haki spread outward. Then he stiffened.
The island radiated countless auras—all ferocious beasts. Yet two human auras stood out.
He’d sensed these before.
"So that’s where they are", Kuro murmured.
"Huh?" Lida tilted his head.
"One idiot chasing the One Piece title, and the former Pirate King’s first mate", Kuro said.
"Silvers Rayleigh and Luffy?!"
Klah’s ears twitched. He leapt over, "Where?!"
Though forgiven by Koza and still the village’s gentle soul in Syrobu Village, he still resented Luffy. Without him, none of this would’ve happened.
His Observation Haki couldn’t reach this far yet, but following their gazes, Klah pinpointed the direction.
"Kuro, sir—" Klah’s voice brimmed with eagerness.
"Forget it", Kuro lit a cigar. "That old man’s a nuisance. We’re here to pick up Boa Hancock—no need to play games with him. But—"
He exhaled smoke toward the sea between the warship and the island.
Boom!
The central sea erupted in towering waves. A colossal Sea King surged from the depths, its body dwarfing three warships combined like mere toys.
Roar!
The beast’s fanged maw roared, sending a blood-scented gale that strained the warship’s sails backward.
"Damn! What a monster!"
Sazil burst from the cabin, Deng Shi gaping in shock.
Ju Geng emerged, already nocking an arrow, aiming at the Sea King.
Klah’s body tensed, black fur sprouting as he transformed into a half-beast werewolf.
Lida set aside his snacks, shaking his hands as he focused on the Sea King.
This wasn’t a joke. One mistake, and they’d be capsized.
"Even bigger than I imagined. This is the Calm Belt’s Sea King?"
Kuro gripped his hilt, smirking. "Perfect. A warning shot. Let’s show that old man not to get too ambitious."
Whoosh!
A black wisp flashed from his hand, the blade never leaving its sheath.
A massive slash of black and gold erupted, its surface tinged crimson, roaring with savage energy.
Without glancing back, Kuro turned, the slash racing toward the Sea King. The shockwave billowed his hooded cloak.
Hssk!
The slash struck the Sea King mid-roar, cleaving its head and upper body in two. The massive corpse crashed into the sea, dyeing the waters red. The slash tore through, hurtling toward the island.
---
On the island, a blindfolded young man threw punch after punch at a white-haired old man.
Silvers Rayleigh dodged effortlessly, adjusting his glasses. "Your Observation Haki’s too rushed. Calm down. Don’t let time pressure your heart."
The fists shimmered with black Armament Haki.
"I know, Silvers Rayleigh!" The youth charged, fists like meteors.
"Tsk, tsk", Rayleigh sidestepped, sweeping his Haki-coated staff toward him.
"Behind you!"
The youth spun, leg lashing out with Haki.
"Not bad, but—" Rayleigh began to evade, then froze, sensing the sea.
Crack!
The kick slammed Rayleigh’s ribs, sending him staggering.
"I hit you!" The youth tore off his blindfold, grinning. "Silvers Rayleigh, I actually hit you!"
"Luffy, move!"
Rayleigh grabbed Luffy, diving aside as the slash roared past, carving the island’s shore.
The island quaked like an earthquake. The coast split like tofu, the slash carving inland, slicing through the mountain behind before finally halting.
"What the—" Luffy rubbed his head, then froze at the sight.
The island’s coast was gouged, like a bite taken from an irregular cake. Seawater poured into the chasm.
"Whoa! So cool!" Luffy’s eyes sparkled. "That’s insane!"
Rayleigh narrowed his eyes at the sea. No ship. No figure.
"Shaki’s telegram said he was in Shabondy…"
Would they have been found? No—his style wouldn’t announce himself with a slash. He’d strike directly.
Staring at the empty sea, Rayleigh muttered, "A warning?"
This power… stronger than when they met in Shabondy.
He glanced at Luffy, still marveling at the chasm like a child with a new toy, and sighed.
"Six months… how are you ever going to set sail?"
