Chapter 50: Your Little Trick Won't Fool Me [Happy National Day!]
Chapter 50: Your Little Trick Won't Fool Me [Happy National Day!]
He was truly wronged!
Quirrell was speechless. With his acting skills and strength, he didn't need to rely on such a highly dangerous method to find ways to bypass those traps.
But seeing Snape's furious expression, Quirrell realized that the other party must have solid evidence to confront him.
But it really wasn't him! Who the hell was trying to frame him?
Various wizards who had a terrible relationship with him flashed through Quirrell's mind, but none of them were in Hogwarts, and it was unlikely they would travel all the way here to frame him.
Unable to figure it out, Quirrell could only conclude that he was just extremely unlucky and had accidentally run into a mischievous Young Wizard who had stolen the Potion, and then got suspected by Snape due to his previous abnormal behavior.
I am so hard done by...
Quirrell felt like crying, but despite his inner frustration, he didn't dare to show it. He could only try to look weak and innocent, trembling as he spoke.
"Severus, the theft of the Potion really has nothing to do with me. I can swear it!"
"Is that so? On the afternoon of the third day back after Christmas, where were you? I asked around, and no one saw you", Snape narrowed his eyes, his hollow gaze directly meeting Quirrell's.
Quirrell was momentarily speechless. He couldn't say that he had sneaked into the Forbidden Forest that afternoon, attempting to hunt a Unicorn to restore the Dark Lord's power.
"I was in my office the whole day", Quirrell reluctantly stuck to his story that he hadn't left all day.
"There were students in your office that day, and you weren't there!" Snape questioned.
"I might have gone to the bathroom temporarily", Quirrell stammered, but before he could finish, he suddenly realized that Snape was deliberately trying to trip him up.
Given his reputation at the bottom of the barrel at Hogwarts, no student would voluntarily come to see him.
"Your little trick won't fool me!" Snape smiled, becoming even more convinced that Quirrell was the one who stole from the Potion Store.
Quirrell's face turned red, almost unable to resist shouting in anger.
What a load of rubbish! He hadn't stolen any Potion, not even touched it!
He was working on the grand task of helping the Dark Lord resurrect!
Who had the time to steal a bit of Potion?
It's not like he was broke; if he needed materials, he could always buy them himself!
However, all the pain and frustration Quirrell felt could only be kept inside, as he couldn't explain his whereabouts. He could only try to look weak, innocent, and trembling to gain sympathy, though it had no effect on Snape.
Ivan, hiding in the shadows, almost burst out laughing. He hadn't expected that his spontaneous act of shifting the blame would cause Quirrell such misery.
Harry and the others only emerged from the corner after Snape and Quirrell had left.
"Really, it was Quirrell who stole Snape's Potion. How is that possible?" Harry found it hard to believe.
Although Ivan had mentioned this possibility to him before, Harry had never been willing to believe it. After all, Professor Quirrell was not only cowardly but also known as a good-natured person in the school. He wouldn't get angry even if Young Wizards caused trouble in his class, and he certainly didn't have the capability to manage such a theft.
Such a person, how could they possibly steal Snape's Potions?
However, Harry had clearly overheard Snape and Quirrell's conversation earlier. On the day Snape's Potions were stolen, Quirrell's whereabouts were unknown, and he had lied about staying in his office the whole time. It all looked suspicious.
"Forget about them, Professor Dumbledore will handle it. Let's go see Hagrid's dragon hatch", Ivan said, having no intention of staying any longer. To him, the soon-to-hatch dragon was the most important thing.
"Ivan, I never knew you were so fond of dragons", Hermione remarked, feeling that Ivan's enthusiasm for dragons almost rivaled Hagrid's.
"That's a dragon! The most top-tier magical creature in the Wizarding World!" Ivan explained, but he didn't say the rest of his thoughts.
As long as he obtained Dragon Blood, he could complete the Bloodline Fusion Potion, improving his talents and giving him the initial strength to protect himself in the Wizarding World. He would also have some confidence when returning home at the End of Term.
Before leaving, Ivan solemnly reminded Ron not to discuss anything about the dragon on the way, to avoid being overheard by others. He didn't want to run into Malfoy at Hagrid's place like in the original story.
The four of them made their way to Hagrid's hut, where Hagrid welcomed them with more enthusiasm than usual. It was clear he was very happy today.
The doors and windows of the hut were sealed, with only a few small openings for ventilation. The blazing stove by the bed was continuously emitting heat.
As soon as Ivan entered, his gaze fixed on the table, where the dragon egg lay. A deep crack had already formed on its surface, and it occasionally trembled.
Ivan leaned closer and saw the crack suddenly widen, accompanied by a sharp sound. A bald, scaly triangular head emerged from the crack, followed by a thin, black body that wriggled out of the broken shell. Its limbs were thin and weak, and it swayed unsteadily.
So ugly, Ivan couldn't help but comment, but Hagrid was very excited. He thought it was beautiful and couldn't wait to give it a grand name.
"Norbert, let's call it Norbert, what do you think?" Hagrid extended a finger to tease Norbert, but Norbert opened its mouth full of sharp teeth and bit down. However, Hagrid's thick skin, being a Half-Giant, made it impossible for Norbert to break through.
"Look, how much it likes me", Hagrid said, completely unfazed by Norbert's behavior. He thought it was a sign of affection and believed Norbert must have taken him as its mother.
This left Harry and the others quite helpless, but given Hagrid's excitement, they didn't dare to say anything.
However, Norbert had its own thoughts. After enduring Hagrid's teasing for a while, it became agitated and spat a ball of flame, directly hitting Hagrid's face and setting his beard on fire.
"Hey, you little rascal!" Hagrid frantically patted at his burning beard, flustered for a moment.
"Aguamenti", Ivan waved his Wand, summoning a jet of water that doused Hagrid's head and face.
