Chapter 50: Simulated Business
Chapter 50: Simulated Business
Lin Sai blinked, holding the corpse of the Ice Boar in his hand.
He then realized what had happened and began checking the changes on his game player panel.
[Player Open Module: Simulated Business]
[Simulated Business Level]
[Simulated Business Ability: Goods]
[Goods: All items held or touched by the player will provide basic information.
Note: This includes food, medicine, antiques, real estate, and even slaves.
In the eyes of a seasoned merchant, everything in the world can become their goods.]
Like the previous two game modules, the Simulated Business ability came with a basic skill upon activation.
But Lin Sai had more in mind.
After his first brave battle and narrow escape, he activated the [RPG] module; the second time, he followed the hunt and was eventually rescued, triggering the [Hunting Simulation]; now, with Finn's death and inheriting his teacher's plant cottage, he killed the Ice Boar that had turned Finn into a zombie, thus activating the [Simulated Business].
All three module activations were related to his real-life experiences.
"If I have time, I should give this a try," Lin Sai thought to himself.
However, the attribute panel displayed a [Quest Completed] prompt, suggesting that simply performing related tasks might not be enough to unlock the game module. It seemed that only experiences similar to quests could unlock new modules.
Lin Sai analyzed this briefly and shifted his gaze to the Ice Boar corpse in his hand.
"But this [Goods] ability came just in time."
[Hunting Simulation] > [Simulated Business]
After stopping [Trace Manifest], Lin Sai's Life Essence recovery speed was quite good.
He soon had enough Essence to switch modules, and the [Goods] appraisal ability was applied to the corpse in his hand.
[Corpse: Ice Boar]
[The corpse of a magical beast that lives in cold regions.]
[The corpse seems to contain a special change. Finding the right buyer should fetch a good price.]
"Special change..."
Lin Sai muttered to himself and quickly picked up the other two Ice Boar corpses for inspection.
As expected, all three Ice Boars had the same goods description.
The 'special change' was not unique to the Ice Boar in his hand.
Lin Sai remained silent and quietly stored all three Ice Boar corpses in his portable bag.
Instead of heading towards the town, he waited for his Essence to recover, then switched modules again and reactivated the [Hunting Simulation] ability.
In the pitch-black forest, Lin Sai carefully inspected his surroundings.
There were plenty of animal tracks in the forest, but none seemed suspicious based on the color and shape of the footprints.
He persisted like this for half an hour.
Lin Sai confirmed that there was nothing suspicious here, so he simply prepared his arrows and ventured deeper into the woods.
---
Two hours later, a bowstring reverberated through the forest, and a chilling arrow was released, sending a shiver down one's spine.
Under the moonlight, a Snowy Owl perched on a pine branch fell to the ground.
Lin Sai emerged from the darkness, holding the Snowy Owl by its hind leg.
After two hours of searching, he had finally found an Essence-awakened magical beast in the forest. With his prey in hand, he immediately switched modules and checked its goods attributes.
[Corpse: Snowy Owl]
[The corpse of a magical beast that lives in cold regions.]
[Plucked feathers, meat, and claws may be of interest to buyers.]
"..."
After reading the simple description, Lin Sai closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Indeed, it's a completely different description."
Both the Snowy Owl and the Ice Boar were magical beasts of the lowest rank.
At the end of the product description, however, there was a starkly different account.
This discovery finally confirmed Linsey's suspicions.
—The Ice Boars were indeed problematic.
Now, the question was how to find the real culprit behind it all.
Linsey pondered the issue while placing the Snowy Owl's body into his portable bag, only then setting out on the path back to town.
His first destination was naturally the cemetery church.
The source of the reanimated corpses had been identified.
Linsey had no reason to let Finn's body lie on the church floor again, whether for continued memorial or burial; it needed immediate attention.
Under the night sky, he walked back to the church entrance.
Linsey raised an eyebrow slightly.
The church doors, which had been closed just a few hours ago, were now open, and he could see the lights on inside the chapel.
"Are there others here?"
Linsey murmured to himself.
He first took out three Ice Boars from his bag and tied them up with ropes before heading towards the church doors.
"Mother Superior...?"
As soon as he entered, Linsey saw Red Moon.
Finn's body had been moved to the chapel, and Red Moon was praying over it. Upon seeing Linsey, she merely nodded slightly.
Further back in the chapel, Dan and other townsfolk were also present.
Linsey glanced at them and suddenly understood.
These people were all residents living near Finn's wooden cabin.
They had not heeded Linsey's reassurance and, upon hearing the commotion, came to investigate. After finding Finn's cabin empty, they called Dan, who lived nearby, and together they rushed to the church on the east side of town.
Dan was the leader of this group of townsfolk.
Upon seeing Linsey and his catch, she immediately approached him:
"Linsey, what's going on here?"
Linsey directly handed one of the three Ice Boars to Dan:
"Tonight, these guys were lurking around the cabin and reanimated Mr. Finn's body."
"Huh? What?" Dan's eyes widened in surprise, clearly not believing Linsey's words, "Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Dan, as a professional hunter, was the town's foremost expert on magical beasts.
If a powerful magical beast, upon awakening, gained intelligence, it might be capable of such an act.
But Ice Boars... they were barely equivalent to a first-stage awakened beast.
At least in Dan's eyes as a hunter.
Such a lowly beast, barely superior to regular animals, couldn't possibly do such a thing!
Linsey immediately emphasized in a serious tone:
"I'm certain their behavior is abnormal and likely influenced by external factors."
"These Ice Boars passed through the crop fields without causing any damage. Instead, they ran straight to the cabin, reanimated the teacher's body, and then turned back towards the forest as if fleeing. When I found them, these beasts were scavenging pine cones from the ground due to hunger!"
With Linsey's explanation, Dan realized the gravity of the situation, and her tone became tense:
"Linsey, where did you find them?"
Linsey immediately replied:
"In the southern forest, about an hour's journey from here."
Dan nodded and headed straight out of the church.
At the same time, she instructed Linsey:
"Don't wait for dawn, Linsey. Take these two Ice Boar corpses and immediately inform An Rui about this matter."
Linsey chased after Dan as she left the church:
"Dan, what are you planning to do? I didn't find any other traces in the forest."
Dan turned her head, her eyes flashing with naked murderous intent. A confident and cold, cruel smile appeared on the female hunter's lips:
"Kid, don't underestimate me."
"Since you've put the clues right in front of me, I can't let them go to waste!"
