Chapter 50: Lanchi's Opening Act
Chapter 50: Lanchi's Opening Act
In the demon classroom that had become akin to a slaughter feast, time seemed to stretch, with each second feeling exceptionally long and painful.
The candlelight on the wall lamps flickered, alternating between brightness and darkness, as if counting down to the increasingly imminent end of the deadly exam.
Sitting in the back row, Shubelian gave up thinking.
She couldn't understand what Lanchi was trying to do.
However, her previous interactions and collaborative experiences with him told her that it was normal to not keep up with Lanchi's thoughts temporarily. At least she knew she was still sane.
All she needed to do was keep an eye on Lanchi.
Her role was more like that of a nanny, ready to catch him if he fell.
And so, under Shubelian's quiet observation, Lanchi temporarily stopped reporting the candidates for a while and lowered his head to write something on the parchment exam paper.
It was as if he was waiting for the right moment.
After a few dozen seconds had passed, Lanchi put down his pen and casually rested his arms on the back of the chair, once again becoming the third proctor.
Soon enough, Lanchi spotted a student who had successfully cheated and directly raised his hand to report them.
Shubelian quietly lowered her head beside him.
Although she didn't understand what Lanchi was waiting for, she had a premonition that something abnormal was about to happen soon.
This time, the Dragon Demon was again closer to the reported examinee.
He began to stride towards the cheating student, ready to cruelly and joyfully execute them.
Lanchi leisurely observed the whole situation, his eyes keenly fixed on the two demon proctors despite his relaxed demeanor.
Now.
There would be a brief moment—
The Dragon Demon, driven by his heart, focused solely on reveling in the thrill of the kill, paying no attention to any of the examinees. Meanwhile, the Owl Demon's singular perspective was limited, and he, too, would enter a blind spot in his vision.
This was the longest blind spot in the vision of the two proctors that Lanchi could artificially create.
This time would be just enough.
He silently counted the seconds in his heart, and at the same time, a magic card appeared in his hand, hidden within the embrace of his arms.
As if finally reaching a predetermined moment, Lanchi played the Basic Etiquette card in his hand, causing a demon examinee in the diagonal front to kneel before him!
"Dong!"
Suddenly, the demon examinee lost control of his body and twisted to face Lanchi, kneeling down.
Lanchi raised his hand once more and shouted, "Teacher, he's turning back to copy answers!"
The Owl Demon, who was patrolling, and the Dragon Demon, who was still reveling in the aftertaste of the cruel punishment, both noticed the examinee who suddenly turned back and knelt on his chair, looking behind him.
This unfortunate examinee with green scales on his neck stared with tearful eyes, his lips trembling as he struggled to speak.
He didn't know what had come over him, but he suddenly turned back to look behind him and was immediately reported.
With such a big movement, there was little room for argument.
And so, as the demon student's mentality collapsed, both proctors quickly walked towards him!
Unlike any previous occasion.
Previously, either the Dragon Demon or the Owl Demon would act alone.
They seemed to follow a rule, simply judging who could get to the cheating student faster, while the other continued patrolling.
This time, however, it was different.
It was as if by coincidence.
They both felt that they should be the first to reach the cheating student and execute them.
And so, the Owl Demon and the Dragon Demon both took the initiative.
"..."
In the back row, Lanchi lowered his head, his index finger lightly tapping his elbow.
He continued to calculate in his mind.
So far, the situation was exactly as he had calculated.
He had long recorded the behavior patterns of the two proctors based on time and calculated their movement speeds.
Therefore, it was also easy to calculate a certain time point—
If a student in a fixed position was reported at these time points, and the two proctors set off simultaneously, they would also arrive at the reported examinee's side at the same time! Given the two proctors' unabashed lust for killing, they would never easily give up this opportunity.
Now, this situation had been successfully engineered by Lanchi.
In the aisle two rows diagonally in front of Lanchi's seat.
The Dragon Demon, who had just been about to raise his hand to execute the cheating student, had his wrist grabbed by the Owl Demon.
"I saw him first."
"You're being too greedy."
"Let go."
"You should be the one to back down."
The Owl Demon's words were icy cold, as if he held a considerable grudge against the Dragon Demon.
The killing intent of the two high-level demons seemed to rise along with their anger, noticeably shifting towards each other.
"..."
Although Shubelian didn't turn her head to look at the situation in the right front two rows, her heart was pounding wildly!
She felt she understood what Lanchi was trying to do.
She felt Lanchi had gone mad!
But Shubelian wasn't sure if Lanchi, even by playing his trump card, the 'Great Loving Poet', could completely ignite the anger of the two demon proctors and drive them insane.
No matter how strong the killing intent of the two high-level demons was, they still maintained their rationality and followed the exam hall's proctoring rules without making a move.
However.
Shubelian felt that Lanchi was quietly laughing.
None of the demons in the exam hall noticed that there was a tiny, almost imperceptible, little flying insect on the ground that was stealthily climbing up the Dragon Demon's foot and onto his suit.
Friendship Forever Bug
Category: Summoning Card
Rarity: Blue Rare
Attribute: Link/Telekinesis
Tier: 1
Effect: Able to hear the target's voice and then speak according to the summoner's will.
Note: If you can't speak, I'll speak for you.
This was one of the few finished cards that Lanchi had crafted besides the 'Basic Etiquette' and 'Friendly Exchange' cards.
The two demon proctors continued to threaten each other, their gazes icy, filling the exam hall with tension and oppression.
As the atmosphere reached its freezing point.
"You deserve to eat※ for being so slow, and if you don't ※※※ get out of here, I'll rip the feathers off your head and stuff them in your※※ right away. Just like your family's※※ cult, you only deserve to pick up※※ leftovers."
The Dragon Demon's voice, coming from his body, suddenly reached the Owl Demon's ears.
"Roar..."
The Dragon Demon had just opened his lips to say something when a sharp pain in his throat caused him to let out only a hoarse roar.
He didn't know where the voice was coming from, but he felt the Owl Demon's grip on his wrist tightening!
And the look of surprise on the Dragon Demon's widened eyes seemed, in the eyes of the Owl Demon, like a wild and defiant stare.
The 'Friendship Forever Bug' was a magic card crafted by Lanchi to be used in conjunction with the 'Friendly Exchange' card.
In direct combat, this bug served little purpose beyond buzzing and provoking the opponent; it could easily be destroyed by a small-range spell.
In the previous third round of the entrance exam, when facing a single proctor, Lanchi had been cautious and brought along the most efficient 'Anger Misdirection' healing spell cards, specializing in single-target magic.
But this time, as he ventured into the true Shadow World, he would face various complex situations, so he equipped himself with several of his "Lanchi-brand" blue rare first-tier cards.
"When there's conflict between colleagues, one shouldn't always endure silently. Only by venting the pent-up resentment can one find a chance for reconciliation."
Leaning back in his seat at the back of the hall, Lanchi casually propped up his chin and watched the Dragon Demon and the Owl Demon, who were about to come to blows, and commented,
"Now, it's time for them to bare their hearts to each other."
