Chapter 50: Going Live Statement
Chapter 50: Going Live Statement
I want to share some thoughts.
First, let me introduce myself. I’m a chronically lazy person and a severe procrastinator.
The reason I started writing this story is that I recently got into beast taming stories, and I was looking for a women's channel beast taming story to read. However, there were very few, and most had outdated settings. So, I decided to write one myself.
I’ve been a fan of Pokémon from the Kanto Region to the Kalos Region, so writing about a Beastmaster should be no problem.
I knew that the women's channel has fewer readers, but I still decided to write with a female protagonist because I am a girl.
As a new author, I published the first two chapters right after writing them, with no stockpile of chapters. I just wrote on a whim. When I had written over ten thousand words, I got a contract. I was quite happy at the time.
Later, I realized that whether I signed the contract or not, the readership didn’t change much. Since it was the women's channel, I had already prepared myself for this, so I just let myself go and updated every two days.
After about half a month of this, I got a trial promotion. The editor found me and only asked that I not stop updating during the trial promotion. I was excited to get my first promotion and agreed right away.
At first, I didn’t know why my debut on Qidian would have a trial promotion on QQ Reading. However, my first monthly vote and the first detailed review came from QQ Reading readers, and I was very excited. I impulsively promised not to stop updating or abandon the story.
Later, I realized that as a chronically lazy person, I might occasionally miss an update.
I had no stockpile of chapters, always dragging my feet and only starting to write late at night. I would write for a bit, then play on my phone, write some more, then eat something, and so on.
After the trial promotion, I got into the next round of recommendations and couldn’t stop updating. But by then, I had readers who would comment and vote, which motivated me to write more. During that period, I often finished updates by around six in the evening.
I thought about taking a day off many times.
I felt most comfortable updating every two days.
But since I received votes and comments every day, I stuck with it.
At first, I would excitedly leave a comment in response to every reader, but now I’m afraid of being pushed to update faster.
Although the number of readers is not high for the women's channel, for me, going from a solo writer to having daily comments is a big improvement.
Regarding going live, the editor contacted me a few days ago and said it would be on May 23rd.
I feel it’s too soon, as I have no stockpile of chapters, and going live usually means a burst of updates.
I kept procrastinating until the 22nd and haven’t started stockpiling chapters.
But don’t worry, I’ve decided to drink coffee and write more tomorrow night.
Also, new authors going live usually write two chapters a day because of the full attendance bonus.
However, I missed updates five times between signing the contract and going live, during the period when I was updating every two days before the recommendations. So, even if I write two chapters a day after going live, I won’t get the full attendance bonus.
I found out about this later.
While I’m a bit sad, I’m also a bit relieved, as it gives me an excuse not to write two chapters every day.
I know the readership will drop sharply after going live, but that’s okay. I won’t abandon the story!
If the performance is good, I’ll try to stockpile more chapters and burst update.
If the performance is poor, I’ll still update consistently and won’t abandon the story, even if the updates are less frequent. That’s the best I can do as a chronically lazy person.
I really want to thank the readers who have been with me every day, but it might not be appropriate to list them in a going live statement. I’ll do it properly next time.
Here, I’ll answer a question that many of you might be curious about: whether there will be a male lead.
I enjoy bittersweet romances when reading romance novels.
If I write one, I might end up creating a dramatic and tragic romance, which doesn’t fit the tone of this book. So, I don’t think I’ll write a male lead.
Finally, I’d like to ask for your first subscription. After all, the chapter I’m releasing on the 23rd was written while I was drinking coffee.
That’s all.
Going live statement, perfect…
